unlabelledView post →THE RED TURTLE (2016) - Michael Dudok de Wit "The dialogue-less film follows the major life stages of a castaway on a deserted tropical island populated by turtles, crabs and birds."

unlabelledView post →The next Studio Ghibli movie is The Red Turtle, which I just read a summary of and it promises to be as fucked up, if not moreso, than When Marnie Was There. It is also, I believe, the only Studio Ghibli movie to not be directed by a Japanese person? The director is Dutch.
unlabelledView post →Also met with @prophetcassandra.bsky.social for a mid PCC Mystery Movie (The Red Turtle is a great 30 minute animated short stretched to a surprisingly annoying 80 minutes). Thankfully, she's extremely cool company.
unlabelledView post →The Red Turtle. This film will emotionally wring you out like a wet flannel
unlabelledView post →went to see The Red Turtle for the first date but we spent the entire pre-movie chat shit talking La La Land lmao
unlabelledView post →Seeing that Zootopia 2 is trending reminds me that the first film beat Kubo and the Two Strings, The Red Turtle, and My Life as a Zucchini for the Oscar that year. Truly, a silly decision even then fueled by the Academy at large treating that category as "well, my (grand)kid liked it."

unlabelledView post →Today's minute(ish) of brilliant animation is from The Red Turtle (2016), directed by Michaël Dudok de Wit. Such a lush movie.
unlabelledView post →The Red Turtle: In this dialogue-free film, a shipwrecked man is stranded on a desert island. His repeated attempts to escape are repeatedly thwarted by a mysterious giant red turtle. The two forge a magical connection, bonding and leading to family, exploring themes of nature and the cycle of life
unlabelledView post →Tonight and 1st up on our "watch every Ghibli film" New Years Resolution w/ my gf is 'The Red Turtle' 10/10, this was so jaw-droppingly beautiful & had me taken aback many times by the impressive BG & layout design. A collab between Studio Ghibli & Wild Bunch (France)!! So good! #OrionWatches
unlabelledView post →May: Unlike other Ghibli productions, The Red Turtle had its premiere outside Japan, at the Cannes Film Festival ten years ago this week. It's unusual in other ways too, as an international co-production with no dialogue, but the official Ghibli website still lists it alongside their main lineup.
unlabelledView post →I’ve rarely heard @kermodemovie.bsky.social rave quite as passionately & eloquently about a film as this. I watched The Red Turtle for the first time today, & completely agree with him. It’s a haunting, moving & beautiful film that fills your mind & heart afterwards. www.youtube.com/watch?v=uOJM...
unlabelledView post →silent animated movie? sounds like THE RED TURTLE (and I *loved* THE RED TURTLE!) moving this to the top of my watchlist
unlabelledView post →The movie of the week is... The Red Turtle
unlabelledView post →Day five of anime recommendations: something unique today. The Red Turtle. A movie with no dialogue about a man stranded on an island who meets a red turtle that doesn't seem to want him to leave. When he accidentally kills the turtle, it turns into a woman, and they fall in love. Very sweet film!
unlabelledView post →I just saw "The Red Turtle", the first non Japanese movie produced by studio Ghibli. It shares the core elements of a traditional Miyazaki movie, extremely beautiful (different style though, it looks distinctively french) with a surreal/incomprehensible story. Worth watching 👌
unlabelledView post →34) The Red Turtle An animated film w/no dialogue definitely makes it ART & experimental even by ghibli's standards (was joint thing w/a french animation studio). Was it good art?... that I'm less sure about... Visually its great, but that's about it, I guess it's lacking in heart to me. 6/10
unlabelledView post →Saturday night’s film: The Red Turtle.
unlabelledView post →A very beautiful film that I feel has been a bit forgotten is THE RED TURTLE (2016). Animated by Studio Ghibli but directed by Michaël Dudok de Wit, it is poetic, existential, and quite wonderful I think. I commend it to you.
unlabelledView post →#movies #anime The Red Turtle (2016) — The last Studio Ghibli I had left to watch... But I suppose it's not really a Ghibli? I've tried reading up on this from a variety of websites, and the connection feels kinda tenuous. From what I understand this was animated by various studios in Europe? 🤷♀️

unlabelledView post →(2) My first three checks I will give to directors who haven’t made something in far too long. Michaël Dudok de Wit made some great shorts and then the sublime The Red Turtle. That his last film was a decade ago is a real shame.

unlabelledView post →still from the film The Red Turtle (2016) - directed by Michaël Dudok de Wit #art #inspire
unlabelledView post →One movie didn't make the cut due to being terrible and without even one good scene worth showing. One movie I love didn't make the cut because of technicalities (The Red Turtle).
unlabelledView post →I went to see Flow at this year's London Film Festival and absolutely loved it. Between Flow, Robot Dreams, the Shaun the Sheep movies and The Red Turtle, it's been a brilliant few years for silent animation coogsreviews.wordpress.com/2024/10/14/l...
unlabelledView post →Between THE RED TURTLE, ROBOT DREAMS, and now FLOW, dialogue-less animated films with gorgeous visuals and stirring scores are quickly becoming a favorite of mine. Was deeply moved by FLOW. What a freakin year for animated film.

unlabelledView post →The Red Turtle - 6/10 It completely slipped my mind to add this movie here. This may be the first Studio Ghibili movie yet where I have literally nothing to say about it besides "it exists." I fear I don't see the vision with this one.
unlabelledView post →I watched The Red Turtle recently, and it boggles me that people consider this a "weird" movie and that they don't understand it. It's pretty basic. It's a poetic subversion of the man vs nature dynamic. It's about learning to love the creatures around you instead of seeing them as obstacles or food
unlabelledView post →Kit deciding that since she didn't cry or get emotionally impacted as much as she expected with The Red Turtle? That she's gonna rewatch Robot Dreams for a dialogue free movie guaranteed to make her bawl
unlabelledView post →"We're proud to bring you everyone's favorite Ghibli film... 2016's 'The Red Turtle,' directed by Michaël Dudok de Wit!!"
unlabelledView post →loved THE RED TURTLE, although one family member was put off by it essentially being a silent movie (no dialogue)

Kyle Macciomei (Ghibli cuisine enthusiast!) joins me to talk THE RED TURTLE, an unconventional "Ghibli film" that almost didn't make it as a full episode. But the movie is just so gorgeous, moving, and full of Ghibli themes. We discuss! Links 👇

unlabelledView post →THE RED TURTLE (2016) This Oscar-nom animated film from Michaël Dudok de Wit is a vivid and beautiful story of survival and our relationship to nature Told almost entirely through images and music Looking forward to showing the kids in our family 1 Sight & Sound vote, Director Nora Twomey
unlabelledView post →any of these w/b good (my vote is for the first two) Tabu; Algie the Miner; Earth; Grass; The Bra (modern German film); Fanchon the Cricket; I Don't Want to Be a Man; The Goddess; The Lodger; Blackmail; The Red Turtle; Salome; Faust; Siren of the Tropics
unlabelledView post →The Cat Returns: really fun. Up on Poppy Hill: an interesting setting in time and place. The Red Turtle: lovely, but I don’t count it as a Ghibli film. When Marnie Was There: somewhat slow and somber tone similar to Arietty. The Boy and the Heron is like Miyazaki’s greatest hits.
unlabelledView post →The best animated film ever?? Snow White and the Seven Dwarves? My Neighbour Totoro? Chico and Rita? The Red Turtle? A Scanner Darkly? Inside Out? Grave of the Fireflies? Toy Story? Spirited Away? This person can’t have seen ANY of these.
unlabelledView post →Lovely! Have you seen “The Red Turtle”? It’s another animated film that falls into this category, the only Studio Ghibli film not made under a Japanese director. Gorgeous, moving, ambiguous.
unlabelledView post →Michaël Dudok de Wit's film The Red Turtle, which is a beautiful and deeply moving animated fable. A brisk 80 minutes. Also a brisk 80 minutes, and one of my go to comfort films, The Smallest Show on Earth (1957) - a gentle but beguiling British comedy about a small cinema.
unlabelledView post →2/ The Red Turtle is a film about old-fashioned notions such as being at one with the natural world. All this is depicted in beautiful animation whose Japanese influences are unmistakable. One can almost see the brushstrokes that have cast the watercolour-like shades across the seductive screen.
unlabelledView post →The Red Turtle is such an awesome work. Watched it with each of my grownups on different occasions, and this time daughter wanted to show it to her friend. It’s a miracle that this movie has been made, beautiful, open to any interpretation, simple yet deep.
unlabelledView post →This reminds me of the time my spouse bought a movie for my birthday, “The Red Turtle” The turtle died in the end and I was crushed because they’re my favorite animal.
unlabelledView post →Have you seen The Red Turtle? I think that's a beautiful film.
unlabelledView post →I think of The Red Turtle movie - i really enjoyed the first half, but at a certain point you could sense it struggling against its own self-imposed limitation. Its fine to tell a visual story without a words, but if you only do it as a challenge you might end up hurting the story.
unlabelledView post →We watched two #StudioGhibli movies last night. Earwig & the Witch was fine, glad I finally watched it. The second movie we watched was The Red Turtle. This movie was beautiful, tragic, haunting, mesmerizing and I'm still struggling to form words to describe how I feel about it. I'm still thinking about it after a sleep, so that says something. It was difficult to watch at times and I literally sobbed twice during it. There is no dialogue in the film and the music is used sparingly, which made…
unlabelledView post →I borrowed The Red Turtle from my public library recently. This film is directed by Michaël Dudok De Wit in collaboration with Studio Ghibli, among others. As the only spoken dialogue amounts to yells, it relies greatly on visual storytelling. Its art is beautiful and demands your attention.

unlabelledView post →The Red Turtle… …is not on Netflix or streaming on anything I have and I’ve spent enough money on those DVDs so next up is Only Yesterday. Apparently this is the worst Ghibli movie according to Fart Boy Scat Pants which I sincerely doubt is the case.

unlabelledView post →The Red Turtle (2016) My next film for class. This (mostly) dialogue-free film about a man stuck on a deserted island was a poignant look at birth, death, love, heartbreak, among other things wrapped into one. Also, it's a Ghibli film, so that's a big plus.
