I am aware that by all accounts, this film is not much of an adaptation of the book, which I have not read, and more the ideas the director and writer(s) had themselves after reading Gedo Senki, which was the nature of film adaptations of books in the 80s.

Earthsea's sense of near apocalypse is distinct in Ghibli's oeuvre, and was probably resonant in 2006.

Basically everything except Tales from Earthsea is 3.5 stars out of 5 or higher, with basically the first 7 being 5 star movies in my opinion and most of the rest being 4 stars. What I’m saying is, you can’t really go wrong.
