unlabelledView post →Just watched again that great German film, The Lives of Others, about the Stasi in East Germany in the 1980s. Surveillance of artists, policing of dissident speech, interrogations, punishment, operatives and informants securing their own privileges by naming and reporting others. SBS on demand.
unlabelledView post →🗃️ #GDR #Rosie I’m so glad “The Lives of Others” made the NYT list of this century’s top 100 movies. The script is flawless. No wasted scenes. If you're wondering what it feels like to have your everyday conversations scrutinized by a bunch of eavesdropping Nazis, see this movie.
unlabelledView post →Everyone should watch The Lives of Others, a 2006 German film by Florian Donnersmarck about ubiquitous Stasi surveillance in East Germany. It won the 2007 Academy Award for Best International Feature Film.
unlabelledView post →I'll never forget the commentary track on "The Lives of Others" by an East German guy who worked on the movie during a scene where the evening news is playing a report about egg production and he said something like "we used to think this was the news".
unlabelledView post →THE LIVES OF OTHERS (2006). It's not like the worst movie ever or anything but I don't really get why it was so highly praised.

unlabelledView post →I will say that even though conservatives love it (because it is a COMMUNISM BAD movie) I do not find the politics of THE LIVES OF OTHERS objectionable, unlike the *other* German Oscar-bait movie from that era, DOWNFALL bsky.app/profile/pato...

unlabelledView post →I just keep replaying the film The Lives of Others in my mind. That's what's in store, probably for decades to come. I watched reporters talking to voters in line yesterday, with many saying they were still deciding who would get their vote. Like it was a popularity contest. This is tragic.
unlabelledView post →damn I totally forgot about The Lives of Others, amazing film
unlabelledView post →#BTS Namjoon shared a pic of him with actor Lee Dong-hwi. Seems like he was attending the play #타인의삶 [Das Leben der Anderen/The Lives of Others], adapted from a 2006 movie with the same title. Lee plays Gerd Wiesler. The play is ongoing until 19.01. #RM
unlabelledView post →I watched "The Lives of Others" yesterday. I can't stop thinking about it. I was particularly struck in that moment when the agent cries hearing a piano piece. Can art transcend evil? 📽️

unlabelledView post →"Watch The Lives of Others, the beautifully told film about surveillance in 80s east Berlin. Act as if you are now living in East Germany and Meta/Facebook/Instagram/WhatsApp is the Stasi. It is." 😬
unlabelledView post →RIP to Gene Hackman, who once played John Kempe in a short-lived play version of The Book of Margery Kempe in the 1960s. My favorite role of his is in The Conversation (1974), a haunting film about surveillance and complicity in evil regimes - great companion to The Lives of Others (2006).

unlabelledView post →"The Lives of Others" was a great movie. Showed the impacts living in a secret police state had on ordinary civilians, as well as the police themselves.
unlabelledView post →Watch the German movie "The Lives of Others" from 2006. Set in 1983 East Berlin. The surveillance state.
unlabelledView post →Every time I see that photo, it makes me think of a scene near the beginning of a great film, The Lives of Others. It's about East Germany in the last years of Stasi snooping on citizens' private lives, focused on the intellectuals. Great film if you haven't seen it. www.youtube.com/watch?v=n3_i...

unlabelledView post →Keira Knightley and Luke Thompson are set to lead the London stage version of ‘THE LIVES OF OTHERS’. The production reworks the Oscar-winning film into a psychological surveillance thriller set in 1984 East Berlin, where a love story unfolds under Stasi control. #KeiraKnightley #LukeThompson
unlabelledView post →I recommend to all: The Lives of Others. In 2006, as the film ended, I found the person next to me in tears. She said: That’s just as it was. Over and over. It’s streaming. You won’t regret it.

unlabelledView post →There is an oppressive stillness about the film which achieves things that comparable films like The Lives of Others (2006) did a bit more flashily. Here the practices of the Stasi are somehow even drearier, even less dramatic, and arguably more insidious. 3/4

unlabelledView post →And it has given me an idea for a new demo/presso "The Lives of Others - Live". I love that film - simultaneously oppressive, disturbing, and yet redemptive - it is stunning. So how interesting to have a walkthrough of the spook tech in it - both explicit and implied. What do we think - Yes? 3/3
