Which is why I think we love Kendrick; he loves the culture. It's like Thanos' snap, but in real life, disintegrating our homeplaces.

Lovecraft Country, The Last Black Man in San Francisco, Creed III, Kang in Ant-Man. Yale Drama pedigree. Nothing but awards in his future. And being an abusive asshole fucked it all up.

unlabelledView post →THAT PART 👍🏾 I always think of this scene from The Last Black Man in San Francisco. Like yeah we get loud because we love it so much we know it can all be better. They call it "hate" but we pronounce it differently over here ☺️ "Do you love it? [...] You don't get to hate it unless you love it."

Jordan, and was going to be the face of the MCU. 2026: Jonathan Majors stars in the cinematic equivalent of caca pudding for a grand total of 5 minutes of screentime.

unlabelledView post →i think the Last Black Man in San Francisco said it best: you don’t get to hate san francisco unless you love it! san francisco and california are real places where real people live and work and so many people treat us like a vacation, a tech oligarchy playground, or the boogey man. we are not!

This truly encapsulates what it feels like to be hurt by something you deeply love (and will continue to love like SF). I also didn’t realize that I used 9er’s colors, but I’m really no football fan

Then came Are You Going To San Francisco? we went with flowers in our hair. OMG damn cold city but beautiful. The Last Black Man in San Francisco, movie made me cry. Old, sentimental.
unlabelledView post →THE LAST BLACK MAN IN SAN FRANCISCO (2019) Top 5 film for me. Utterly heartbreaking drama that's also very funny and occasionally surreal. touches on gentrification, race, technology, homoeroticism, heritage, loneliness and regional identity among other things. Yet it all still feels light.

Along with a timely story, it has the message I've associated with the past decade: "You don't get to hate it unless you love it." Times are hard, but only a cynic would ignore the beauty that still continues to blossom.
