unlabelledView post →The 2004 Coen Bros. remake of The Ladykillers. The critics only hated it because they're accustomed to weirder, less conventional fare from the Coens, but there's nothing wrong with auteurs making a more "normal" movie for a change as long as it's good, and this is magnificently made.
unlabelledView post →I'd say the Coen brothers are the most consistently good filmmakers. There's absolute bangers like *Fargo* and *True Grit*. Even their lesser known ones like *The Ladykillers* and *Hail Caesar* are worth a watch. There's *O Brother Where Art Thou*, and *Barton Fink*, which are their most underrated in my opinion. I don't think they put out a single stinker, and most are A or A+.
unlabelledView post →A delightful and charming mid-to-late period Woody Allen film. An amiable heist comedy, that is reminiscent of a number of earlier films, from The Ladykillers, to Larceny, inc. Every beat of comedy is obvious, but it always makes me laugh.

unlabelledView post →We watched both versions of The Ladykillers this weekend. The original is a great movie! It’s fun and funny, a little dark but also kind of sweet. Alec Guinness looks hilariously awful but it works. I e seen it before and I’ll watch it again. The Coen bros version is disgusto barfo. I watched it
unlabelledView post →A cinematic pet peeve of mine that only comes up rarely: editor edits a scene of music that shows black people clapping on the beat. The film industry should have a special punishment for that. (Just saw this happen in The Ladykillers. A *gospel* scene of all things!)
