unlabelledView post →The chaotic production has become a thing of legend, but the creature effects in this movie are top notch. One of the last great creature features before everything went to shit. #NowWatching The Island of Dr. Moreau (1996) #horrorsky
unlabelledView post →So the ISLAND OF DR. MOREAU, the infamous 1996 remake of the classic film, is apparently on heavy rotation on Roku streaming this month. What a train wreck! A decrepit Marlon Brando in his final starring role. Val Kilmer was completely insane, on and off screen. It's so bad it's fascinating!
unlabelledView post →Books to film 📚=🎞️ The Island of Dr Moreau (1886) by H.G. Wells and adapted to film in 1932, 1977 & 1996. The novel explores unchecked technology, religious hypocrisy, & man's place in nature. The films focus more on the strengths of the visual with monster movie jump scares. 🧌🧪🙀 #filmsky #booksky

unlabelledView post →The Island of Dr Moreau episode of ‘What Went Wrong’ had them unable to film as Val Kilmer refused to come out of his trailer before Marlon Brando, and Marlon Brando refused to come out of his trailer before Val Kilmer. Boss moves. Love Kiss Kiss Bang Bang. RIP.
unlabelledView post →Totally! As a reporter, you always long for this kind of honesty. Not online, but I talked to David Thewlis about the Island of Dr Moreau film, & he was so brutally honest, my internal thoughts were "you shouldn't be saying this, for career reasons" and "thank you so much for not being full of shit"

unlabelledView post →RIP Val Kilmer. The Island of Dr Moreau was the best movie ever. Deffo go check it out.
unlabelledView post →RIP Val Kilmer the best actor in many “bad” movies I’ve seen, and who was insanely hot in the Island of Dr Moreau, which I found enchanting but everyone apparently hated. 5/5 movie, it’s a 96 minute uncut nightmare. More disturbing than Apocalypse Now as far as late Brando goes

The moving parts of the face dont allow for it but I do know there was soom for some flex points for future options. Much of the structure was based on things learned from looking at builds from the Island of Dr Moreau movie
unlabelledView post →Just wrote a piece about 1996's THE ISLAND OF DR. MOREAU. Wretched movie. I have no idea why New Line made it. But it lit a fire under Frankenheimer's ass. Two years later, we got RONIN. He ate shit to make a late-career triumph. Respect.
unlabelledView post →I was the first person to pay to see The Island of Dr Moreau in the UK. In the 90s, movies still opened a week earlier in London, and I went to the first public screening in London. I was the only person there. That is a truly awful film.
unlabelledView post →Richard Stanley's (Color Out of Space and *partially* The Island of Dr. Moreau) western-influenced post-apocalyptic cyberpunk flick is a genre classic. Plain and simple. …
unlabelledView post →Another one to throw into the mix of mentions here. The first Val Kilmer movie that I actually always think of is The Island of Dr. Moreau. A bit offbeat I suppose but one of my absolute favourite childhood movies and I rented the VHS on more than one occasion. Think I might need to rewatch now.
unlabelledView post →Even in the Island of Dr. Moreau, a movie where no one who was in it wanted to be there, his sense of timing and delivery was impeccable. He does a double take at one point that, 30 years later, still kills me.

unlabelledView post →A video came up on my YouTube about the 1996 film The Island of Dr Moreau, about what a disaster it was of a movie, its difficult production etc. But I will always remember that movie for scaring the living shit out of me when I saw it on TV when I was 8 years old lol.

unlabelledView post →Marlon Brando befriended a 28-inch-tall person during the filming of The Island of Dr Moreau. Brando then insisted this friend be included in the movie, always next to him in a scene and dressed in an identical outfit to Brando. This was the inspiration for the Austin Powers character "Mini-Me."

But no, we went with the 1996 adaptation of The Island of Dr. Moreau. strangersinspace.libsyn.com/film-club-li...

unlabelledView post →The Island of Dr. Moreau is a good movie actually. Weird and memorable, with behind-the-scene drama that make it engaging on a meta level.
unlabelledView post →#NowWatching Color Out of Space (2019). I’ve been saving this one, because not only does it star Nic Cage - who I adore - but it’s Richard Stanley’s first film since directing The Island of Dr Moreau (1996), a very strange film that has a special place in my heart because I loved it way back when.
unlabelledView post →In retrospect it's hilarious that this parody of The Island of Dr. Moreau, if im remembering correctly, was done around the time of the 96 movie... and as such is probably better. Less people got hurt in production, surely.
unlabelledView post →Thinking about Val Kilmer doing his Marlon Brando impression in THE ISLAND OF DR. MOREAU, a movie in which Dr. Moreau was played by Marlon Brando. It's an unhinged movie that is not in any sense "good," but I think we're better off for it existing. www.youtube.com/watch?v=WVkv...
unlabelledView post →This is one of those movies where the "making of" is just as interesting as the movie itself. "Hearts of Darkness" was an excellent documentary of "Apocalypse Now." "Island of Lost Souls" covered "The Island of Dr. Moreau" very well. #hatm

unlabelledView post →The Island of Dr. Moreau (1996) Deeply bizarre film that is nevertheless worth seeing once in your life. So bad it *almost* wraps around to being good.
unlabelledView post →Sometimes I think that my experience seeing The Island of Dr. Moreau was a dream. Surely that movie was never actually allowed to exist. Surely.
unlabelledView post →The 1977 remake of THE ISLAND OF DR. MOREAU with Burt Lancaster and Michael York was released OTD, and I consider it very under-appreciated. However, the ending misfires. When comics writer Doug Moench produced a Marvel adaptation of Welles' story, he kept the conclusion the movie jettisoned.
unlabelledView post →It’s also largely forgotten that it’s a direct reference to the Island Of Dr Moreau movie, where Brando is clearly enamored of his pseudo-clone/baby. The idea of using that as a jealousy trap against his other son is great, but it’s pretty broad otherwise.

So (I've probably missed stuff), I'm gonna list general favourites, going mostly by what I've rewatched and plan to rewatch more. My favourites could change over time and if I included stuff that was my favourite once but I've never had the urge to rewatch, this list would be much longer (I wish I could have simple answers to things). unlabelledView post →I'm watching the madness that is The Island of Dr. Moreau (90s version). So much WTFery. I once took a course on early speculative fiction & there was a unit on Dr. Moreau. It became immediately apparent that most folks in the class had watched this movie instead of reading the book.
unlabelledView post →The Island of Dr. Moreau (1996) It's easy to mourn the film we never got (and I do, Stanley's screenplay is one of the best unmade scripts I've ever read), but I love this movie dearly. A weird, beautiful mess and, even though no one wants to admit it, probably the best adaptation of the story.
