The Stepfather
Michael Harding returns home from military school to find his mother happily in love and living with her new boyfriend, David. As the two men get to know each other, Michael becomes more and more suspicious of the man who is always there with a helpful hand. Is he really the man of her dreams or could David be hiding a dark side? From TMDB

This tearjerker of a film tends to be overlooked amongst all the other great horror films that came out during the 80s.
unlabelledView post →The one that gets me, John List murdered his children, wife, and mother and went off and adopted a new identity and life. He was finally caught cuz a nosy neighbor in his new life called into Unsolved Mysteries. This case inspired the film The Stepfather. #FrightClub

Get me drunk and I'll tell you the story of how drinking with Terry O'Quinn's brother Tom and listening to him make music led to my 17 years as a film critic.

unlabelledView post →THE STEPFATHER definitely counts as a Thanksgiving movie. God, this movie rules! If anyone's ever feeling generous and wants to write a part for me to play in something, make him Jerry Blake-ish.
unlabelledView post →Fake Movie Facts: The Stepfather was initally supposed to have a crossover cameo with Bette Davis as the shape-shifting, chain-smoking black cat in Wicked Stepmother (1989), but the director felt it didn’t fit the film's darker mood. #FFBMovieNight #TheStepfather #MutantFam #Art
unlabelledView post →A lesser-known gem from the late ’80s. Released around the same time as Fatal Attraction, but unfairly overlooked. Terry O’Quinn is terrific—menacing, nuanced, unforgettable. Worth seeking out. Just steer clear of the 2009 remake. #AdmitOneDaily #TheStepfather #1980s

I was thinking of making his top half colourful to “showboat” his attributes whereas his post parts would be darker to show off his true colours if you will. I’m not 100% on the idea but we’ll see!!!

unlabelledView post →Not Taye Diggs in this Stepfather movie that has the title and exact plot of the classic The Stepfather (1987) but is not, in fact, a remake of The Stepfather.
unlabelledView post →I would say not so much crazy as a misogynistic asshole who just gets progressively worse, which made the film less traditionally scary than later horror films like The Stepfather.
