60 of 191 · most liked firstThis game was a disappointment for me. Not because the game is bad, it's not great, it is a fun casual strategy game, but it was a disappointment because it was a downgrade from a previous Alawar/Buka Entertainment game. The Promised Land is a previous game from Alawar/Buka that was released in 2012, it was a game that I really enjoyed for what it was. With this game I was hoping for more of the same but maybe a bit bigger of a scale or maybe with some more depth. The Happy Hereafter…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Nice casual time management game. It's tagged as strategy game, but I have to warn you: it's not a strategy game, so if you're looking for such, keep looking. But if you're looking for simple game, and you just want to take a break of saving the world, this might be a good choice. Graphics is really nice, music and sounds also. Game still has some small bugs and there is lack of achievements. Generally you get definitely more than you pay, so it's worth it. VERDICT: Try it if you are looking…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Fun, Halloweeny humor. A typical villiage build game. Decent mechanics, smooth playability.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →An easy, very casual resource management game with no time limits. Basically the player builds a city for their zombies friends by setting the zombies to work, gathering food, farming, cutting wood, quarrying stone, and collecting gems and money. The point is upgrade everything, when everything is upgraded the game "ends". There are a few quests that need to be done such as helping a witch or growing a tree. It is a bit involved since to make money one needs to use the laboratory, workshop,…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The Happy Hereafter is a casual strategy game. You manage the underworld and the poor souls who will become your slaves, err your workers. The aim of the game is to discover the entire map by unlocking all the areas, interact with some wacky NPCs quest givers, grab all the resources, build everything you can and upgrade it to the max. It’s a tiny persistent world, i.e. there aren’t several levels with different maps, you have one big map. It’s a casual game so there’s no time pressure, you’re…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Definately worth the dollar I paid for it! It's a cute game, and the environment and sounds make it easy to play from beginning to end. I found it easy on the head. Ya know those times when you just wanna chill out, but not play anything intense... this is the kinda game that's good for that. You basically get asked to do tasks to unlock areas and buildings then more tasks to level them up. There are a couple of bugs but nothing to your panties in a bunch over... ;P I showed one possible…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is exactly what it says on the tin. A sim game, you build your town. You start with a small area, and get larger, get more people, need more materials, make more items...it is a logical progression. It is also very short. Once you get the town built, the game is over. There is very little challenge, very little tension...you just go from point A to point B. So why do I reccomend it? Well, it is also very cute. The artwork is good, the characters are cute, even the town looks…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Pros: - gameplay is like virtual villagers x halloween; - cheap; - i think it has big potential if they decide to solve the bugs. Big cons: - very buggy to the point it messes up your progress, I had to restart the game to somehow play it and still buggy; - the story is boring; - even the end is so unexpected(ly boring) and I don't know if it was bugged for me, but I still had stuff to build at the end and it wouldn't let me. PS: Maybe I wouldn't have considered it boring if I didn't have to…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Ah! At last a time management game in the style of 'The Promised Land' (sorry, didn't check which one came first) that's not actually disappointing. It's even very good, ideal for a time waste. There's basically no story, the graphics & audio aren't as bright and engaging (but not as gloomy as one might think), but the 3D models are super cute. Gameplay-wise it's pretty satisfying, too. Do you want challenge? Go see somewhere else. Relaxing after a few hours of work? Go ahead!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game has pleasing graphics and some satisfying building construction by some spooky slaves I meannn townspeople (that you can work to starvation). Bear in mind that there is no room for creativity - everything is scripted. The game is also fairly short. Really lovely little casual game that's gonna get you some steam cards.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A cute little village building game. You collect resources, assign your villagers jobs, & build different buildings to unlock different abilities. Has a little bit of a Halloween type theme to it since your villagers are zombie-looking people and you wield magic. Seems to be a tablet game come to the PC, but without all the annoying "wait 12 hours for this building to finish" stuff. I cleared it in one sitting & it took about 4 1/2 hours. Most of that time was sitting around waiting for…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Let's keep this simple: This is a resource management game on training wheels. For a younger audience, this could potentially be recommended, with caveats - but that doesn't make it a good game in the genre. Developer Alawar and publisher Buka Entertainment are well known amongst casual gamers. Farm Frenzy and Treasures of Montezuma are two of the most well known series they've worked on, and the rest of their respective lists of mostly mediocre yet decent enough games are pretty long. They…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I should have listened to the other reviews about the bugs in this game. I'm only on my second task and already experiencing problems. I am unable to interact with the "Pumpkinhead", thus unable to continue further into the game. I have tried restarting, reinstalling, changing resolutions and he still just stands there bobbing his head like a newborn trying to look around. I have submitted a report regarding this problem. If it gets fixed, I may change my review. However, until then, I…

The Game Review Game Visuals I want to mention that the visuals in the game are well done. The visuals can be adjusted in the game's option menu, Game Audio I want to mention that audio for the game is well done. Even though the audio is somewhat simplistic and repetitive. The audio can be adjusted in the game's option menu as well.…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It could have been a nice cosy game, but instead it is a slow game where you have to wait for the next quest before you can move forward, because if you do move forward independently, when you eventually get a quest for something you have already researched, you won't be able to finish the quest and therefore will be stuck and will have to restart the game.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A time and supply management game in the vein of Build-A-Lot, but with more resources. You are an overlord in an afterlife community with many ruins lying about the map. These ruins must be rebuilt into their original structures. (No freedom of placement here, as with traditional city-builders.) At first, you have extremely limited space for food, resources, and money, as well as a limited amount of resources on the map (although the nodes do replenish over time). The game doesn't tell you…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Cute little casual strategy game that's a nice distraction from bouts of playing more hardcore strategy games. I hesitate from giving the game a full recommend, due to various problems and oversights the game displays, but they aren't enough to downgrade to Not Recommended. Pros: Very easy to get into and play for the first couple of hours. Cute graphics Relaxing Tutorials and missions really ease you into the game Cons: Limited options menu and UI - I desperately wished I could zoom out a…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I'm kinda torn about whether or not to recommend it, as there aren't intensely strong reasons for either leaning, but I've ultimately settled on 'no'. This is basically Virtual Villagers, but it doesn't run in the background, so you take a much more active role, which is pretty good, for the most part. Unfortunately, the way they've gone about this is to triple the level of micromanagement. For resource gathering there are basically three categories: 60% Short run: These resources have 5-10…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I really enjoyed this game until it bugged out toward the end. Any character doing any gatherering just kept working at the node over and over and never delivered anything to the warehouse unless manually moved to it and then moved back to work the node...every. single. time. I couldn't finish the game because it's really not worth playing in that condition; it's tedious, boring and incredibly irritating. If the bug were to be fixed (which, according to the sources I've checked, it's been in…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It is a casual version of a city-building genre with predetermined buildings placements and almost none negative events to take care of. And the art design is great and coherent in the "cutesy-undead" style. Downsides being, that it has only one map, which eliminates repetition of high-player-agency early game, where most city-planning happens, unlike later-game fine-tuning. And considering that all placements are uncustomizable it's better that way. You can chain games in this sub-genre one…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is not a strategy game, this is not a ressource management game. It might be a nice game for your kids but otherwise I can\'t recommend it. I got misleaded by the comments thinking this would be a casual strategy game, which it is not. The soundtrack fits well the scenery, the characters are cute and that little of a lore you have is interesting. The game plays as follow: a mission icon popping out, tells you to upgrade \"X\", an arrow points exactly where you have to click,…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A fun little game. I liked the cute graphics. Gameplay is simple and easy, there really isn't much you can do wrong since the game holds your hand every step. Still the setting is fun and quirky enough. Enjoyed it.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →while the first few minutes of gameplay are kinda fun, the game is serious lacking in anything new or interesting to make you want to continue. after slogging through all the gameplay that this game has to offer, i can safely say that this is a boredom fest... seriously watching grass grow or paint dry are slightly more entertaining activities. - you get to watch your towns'undead'people build in predetermined places, harvest the same stuff over and over and over and over just to upgrade…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Boring and Buggy Casual Game What this game is: It is a casual resources management game with a sort of Halloween theme. How does it work? You have to build your village, unblocking different zones on the map in order to get some resources. You get villagers, buildings with uses (houses, circus, trading post, mines, farms, etc.), and treasures that will provide money. You need different combinations of gold, resources of various types (wood, stone, ore, fruits, crystals, etc.) to build…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The Happy Hereafter looks like a mobile app that's been dumped on Steam as a cheap nasty cash grab, but doesn't appear on the app stores. It's a pointless clicker/time management mobile app. There's no gameplay, just clicking. The game is made to look like you're making interesting decisions, but really, you could write a script to randomly click the screen and given enough time, it would beat the game. Each stage has you clicking on various things to collect items which are then consumed when…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Description The Happy Hereafter is a city builder and time management game (not strategy as the tags say), set in an Halloween theme city, with the purpose to receive and please your new guests that have arrived to the Underworld. PROS - Cute art aesthetic; - Easy to play; - The music although repetitive, sets the mood; - No time limit; - Different buildings (Hotel, Gift shop, Farm, etc) CONS - REALLY short; - You don't have any freedom (you can't choose where to put the…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I’d like to give a mixed review, but since I can't, I'll give it thumbs up. It’s very similar to The Promised Land by the same company, but not quite as good. The Halloween theme is a nice variation, but a big drawback is the intruders that have to be clicked on to drive them away. It helps a little that there is a warning before intruders appear and a victory message when the current wave has been defeated, but I’d prefer to not have intruders to begin with. It would have been better if they…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I was having fun with this game even if it is kind of repetitive but then a bug in the game prevented me from completing one of the quests. I felt like I was getting close to the end but now I'll never know. If you're the kind of person who likes to be able to finish games, I do not recommend this game.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →An ambiances game that's perfect for a good time at Haloween. Gameplay: The gameplay is very easy: build and develop your town by assigning tasks to your characters. There's no need to stress, just play at your own pace and develop your city as you wish. Missions are easy and within a limited timeframe. Graphic design: The graphics are great, you've got your little band of friendly monsters with zombie faces and a map perfectly suited to the mood of the game. Playtime: For me, it's…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Excellent time-waster game. Perfect for when you have nothing better to do and want to fall asleep to some laid back gameplay.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Sounded interesting and fun, but its buggy and that takes a lot of the fun. Plus there is too muhc bottlenecks instead of a flowing gameplay, since this IS a casual game, that its very annoying. Buy it under a heavy discounted sale if you realy, really want to play (like I did)
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Fun little game. Easy to play and cute.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Cute game with a neat concept. My only issue is that there isn't much room for decision making. You basically follow the quests until the game is complete.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →At first glace this is a funny, slow-paced city builder game, fairly short and simple. However, I would recommend against buying it, since it is not properly debugged and starts getting on one's nerves just as you get into it. Advancing at a pace faster than the intended game progression (which in my opinion is rather tutorial-style), causes all sorts of glitches. Workers stop moving, performing tasks and/or bringing resources to storage. Hungry workers just stay in one place instead of…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A fun way to pass the afternoon A halloween based stratergy game which is a fun way to pass the afternoon but can be a little short. The good: A halloween themed resource collection game (a bit different from others) Ability to upgrade buildings The videos are nice A good way to pass the afternoon The bad: The story is short and replay value isn't that high as there are no collections or achievements Very limiting building Game can be really slow when you are waiting for tasks to be…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The Magic Alter is almost always bugged. I have made 5 games, still bugged and can't get past it. Edit: After around 10 restarts, finally got past it. It is one of the intro quests, and incredibly bugged. Entire runs can just be stops because the alter doesn't activate. Borderline non existent story, character glitching across the world, no map, and horrid key mapping. Little to no replay ability, no actual resource management, janky, stilted dialogue. Don't bother unless you get it for free.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I played it twice and got about 11 hours of it. It was worth the price! A fun game to play now in October around Halloween. Though I have to admit that the game doesn't make much sense: if everyone is dead or a zombie, why do they need food and houses? Why does watching a single juggler make an entire world happy? Why does every character I make in Skyrim turn into a stealth archer no matter what I start as? None of these questions are answered in "Happy Hereafter." Seriously though, I…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Somewhat entertaining. Good graphics and music. This is not a time management game, is rather some sort of a Farmville thing but with cute little zombies and stuff. It's child-oriented. It's not very long. Took me nearly 6 hours to finish it. No bugs or crashes. Works fine on Win 7. The game is just a time waster with a very relaxing gameplay. It includes cards and is usually cheap when on sale.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It has been a while since I played and finished this game but I know that it was a good little building sim. There isn't too much to it and you don't get an option on what and where to build besides a few things like lamps and chairs, even than you can't place them where you want. Thing is, even knowing that, it has a charm to it. It is a cute little game and has a tree in it that looks like it took way too much weed. I guess it is just a pot tree. I can recommend this to anyone that doesn't…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is a very simple and casual worker assignment game. The game guides you along fairly linearly, and you gather resources to build a chain of buildings and complete quests which guide you in what to do next. It reminds me a bit of Keflings, but there is very little customization in the game- the buildings go in pre-assigned spaces. The workers have different looks, but not a lot of character. They are all interchangeable and do not get any better than they start as. The workers are easy to…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The Happy Hereafter Review A time management game that’s Halloween themed, a massive plus to the lovers of alternative lifestyles and Halloween lovers. Some key points that this game offers: 1. Several boat loads of missions to complete. 2. Comic book style story scenes. 3. Halloween themed gameplay. 4. Halloween themed characters. 5. Six locations that you will naturally unlock. 6. Learn as you play tutorial. Gameplay & Controls: The controls are fairly simple, you mainly use your mouse…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Its a happy little undead jaunt. I've played it through twice, around Halloween. Its a linear city builder/resource manager with G rated "undeads." I will probably play through it again next October, or when my daughter is old enough to have an interest. The art style and music track are good and will have some staying power over the years. Its going to be a while before this one looks "vintage." Its very casual-you cannot lose. It technically only has one "level" /quest line, so it only takes…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Yeah...it's OK... nor good nor bad, u know? though it's good to pass some time.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Fun and fairly simple casual game where you manage resources and workers to complete objectives. Game was short, only about 3-4 hours.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I wish there was a "neutral" to the recommendation question. This isn't a bad game, it's cute and fun, but it's very short. It feels like the tutorial for a longer game. When the hand-holding instructions stop coming, it feels like you'll be able to just tackle objectives and upgrade your town on your own from then on-- but actually, the game just ends at that point. I got it on sale for $1.50 and for that price, it seems worth it. I finished the whole thing in one evening. $4 is too much…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I must say I was beyond pleasantly surprised with this game. I loved The Promised Land and thought this was very similar looking so got it even though the reviews I read said the other was way better. So far Ive played this game over 2 hours and still looks like i have half the map to go. Love the play style, the cute lil characters that turn into zombies when hungry, pretty much everything. :D
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It was a fun casual game to play. Buy it on sale though and don't get discouraged, check the discussion board for things you might have missed that make the game seem like it is buggy, mostly, you probably missed an instruction que.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Hooked me right away with the straightforward gameplay and beautifully stylized graphics. It's a good casual game that doesn't require a lot of emotional investment in a new story, and a welcome refreshment to worker and resource management. I felt like the model is strong enough that they should invest it making more than 6.4 hours of content—and I did everything. That's the only downside; it's not a long enough distraction. :)
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Pleasant style graphisme and atmosphere. This game have fairly polished graphisme, they come with ambient music and few funny mouse triggered audio. Gameplay is intuitive and simple. Very accessible I would recommend it to anyone. Worth buying. Got it for a very little price on sale. I enjoyed the time spend on this game. A bit short that's for sure, it has the typical sim avantage (or not)... You don't immediately realise the time you spend on it. Some cool bonus. The Gallery with a nice…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Lots of fluff, no real substance and really lacking polish. I found a number of errors in the quests and the building descriptions. Essentially this is "The Promised Land" (same publisher) but without any challenge or depth. The in-game economy consists of waiting for enough wood to be gathered to build the next whatever, as all other resources are ludicrously plentiful at midgame. There is no endgame to speak of, just an endless chain of "build/upgeade this" until you've done it all.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I enjoyed it up to this point, but the only thing I can see left to do is upgrading all the buildings, which at this point in the game just means getting irritated with bottlenecks. surely worth a couple bucks though, if you need something to just shut your brain off and click some stuff.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Alawar's view of the afterlife is so cute. ^u^ Once again, great game from Alawar. Actually worth the pocket money.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is a fun casual game, which takes about 5 hours to finish. You basically build a city for your monsters (or let them build it for you) The game is really easy though, so if you look for a challenging game, this isn't for you. But if you are looking for a fun game to pass some time, this is a great deal. I personally like the bright grapics and the background music.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Basically a Facebook game, set to Steam. You play a VERY linear campaign until it's finished, then you start over or stop playing altogether. The only difference between it and other Facebook games is the lack of buyables. All told, I can't see REALLY recommending this game, unless you have a very specific time to be able to play a game and want to be able to finish said game. This one has a definite stopping point and you WILL reach it thru normal play.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →For the price this game is totally worth it. You can get many hours of fun out of this cheap little game. It's so cute, fun, and enjoyable, it truly was a blast. My only complaint is that later in the game you will have to wait for quite some time to save up resources for later upgrades. In the meantime, you can just manage your workers, trade, and search crypts. Its not the most in depth sim game by a long shot, but super casual and very fun (great Sunday afternoon game). I got it on sale for…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →After less than an hour of use, the game got very corrupted. I couldn't build a labratory (my only quest), even though I had enough money and a microscope and the undead under my control started walking in place and not wanting to move whenever I gave them the job of getting food or gathering wood. Another one of my friend's games got corrupted so bad that it deleted itself. :/ I got it because it looked cute, and it is VERY cute and Halloween-themed. But it is very buggy.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I finished this game in 4 hours. It was perfect. I wanted something casual to play one afternoon that wasn't too intense. I like city building and RTS games. I wish there was a reason to play it again, other than just liking it so much the first time. I spent $2 on the game so it was worth it for the time spent. I'm going to load it up again now to play while watching TV in the background.
