The Glass Castle
A young girl is raised in a dysfunctional family constantly on the run from the FBI. Living in poverty, she comes of age guided by her drunkard, ingenious father who distracts her with magical stories to keep her mind off the family's dire state, and her selfish, nonconformist mother who has no intention of raising a family, along with her younger brother and sister, and her other older sister. Together, they fend… From TMDB

I also loved THE GLASS CASTLE (1950) with Michèle Morgan and Jean Marias, David Lean's THIS HAPPY BREED (1944), and an early Douglas Sirk film, THE GIRL FROM MARSH CROFT (1935).

Michèle Morgan and Jean Marais meet on vacation then impulsively decide to meet again in Paris. Morgan's unwitting husband, Jean Servais, waits at home. There is a palpable sense of foreboding the whole time.

unlabelledView post →Storyboards for the film The Glass Castle, helmed at the time by soon-to-be MCU director Destin Daniel Cretton of Shang-Chi fame. The boards reminded me of my early days, drawing in the wild, w/nothing but a stack of photocopy templates, pencils, a clipboard & digital camera. No polish, all grit.
unlabelledView post →Terribly sad waste of a good cast... THE GLASS CASTLE dumbly spends 2 hours promoting dysfunctional-family 'values', for a dismal shallowness of TV-movie style that would make fairytale happy-endings blush.

unlabelledView post →The story of a Mountain Goat! This was like a combination of 'Captain Fantastic' and 'Infinitely Polar Bear'. But only a messed up tale than them. It was based on the book of the same name which originally a true story. A fascinating one. Inspiring, as well as heartbreaking story. But a wonderful film for families to watch. Because it focused on the family's unity in the difficult times. Told from a kid's perspective as she was growing up having suffered from basic facilities, along with her…
