I finished The Quarry! I had played most of The Dark Pictures Anthology games and wasn't a big fan at all, but this finally feels like a return to what Until Dawn was. It's a teen supernatural slasher game with a great cast and a solid story! I also managed to keep everyone alive 🫡🫡 Super fun!

House of Ashes is the third installment in The Dark Pictures Anthology, and it represents a noticeable step forward for the series in scope, pacing, and narrative cohesion. Moving away from haunted houses and maritime ghost ships, this entry shifts to a military horror setting during the 2003 Iraq War. The result is a hybrid of survival horror, creature feature, and character-driven interactive drama that blends cinematic storytelling with player agency. Unlike its predecessors, which leaned…

Second best game of Supermassive Games (best being Until dawn of course) and the only decent one in the whole Dark Pictures anthology. Interesting story with some genre change I didn't see coming, likable characters that you actually care about not to die (Salim alone deserves huge praise), lots of action. If you like this type of cinematic games - give House of Ashes a try.

House of Ashes: What Could Possibly Go Wrong? My first Dark Pictures Anthology game - you know, those movie-like “every choice matters” interactive adventures with a dozen endings (yeah, sure buddy). This one basically feels like The Mummy invited a bunch of soldiers on a field trip to its tomb - common sense missing, logic optional. Everyone’s hot, reckless, and one bad QTE away from getting body-bagged. The story whiplashes from military drama to ancient demon madness faster than you can…

House of Ashes delivers exactly what fans of the series expect: a cinematic horror experience where your choices genuinely shape the story and the fate of the characters. Just like in previous titles, the strongest aspect of the game is its narrative structure. It feels like you’re watching an interactive movie where every decision can lead to completely different outcomes, which keeps the tension and engagement high throughout. One of the main drawbacks of the entire series, including this…

8020 has the best tension and intrigue of the bunch, at least until a poor final chapter, and the characters felt layered in meaningful ways. Also it's the day after and I'm still thinking about the game which is a massive W for The Dark Pictures Anthology (shocked this series is still going)

This was so boring. It is incredibly hard to stay engaged when this series has essentially released four games that are exactly the same, button by button. If you've played one, you’ve played them all. They keep trying to push these emotional, high-stakes stories, but the execution is just completely off. There are no real stakes or likeable characters in these games; it just feels like a tedious chore instead of a horror game, especially in this one.

The One That's Actually Playable So, let's set the scene. Man of Medan was a buggy nap on a boat. Little Hope was... a foggy walking tour that lied to us. The bar for House of Ashes wasn't just low; it was buried in the basement. And somehow, House of Ashes actually cleared it. This game is the "B-movie monster flick" the series always claimed to be. Instead of just walking slowly and being spooked by fog, you get: Actual action! A 360-degree camera (a revolutionary invention,…

Dark Pictures: House of Ashes is easily the standout entry among the four, thanks to its strong cast and some genuinely intense scenarios that keep you on edge. The story and setting feel more polished and engaging than the earlier games, blending military tension with supernatural horror in a really satisfying way. The creature design is great too, creepy without feeling overdone. It also feels noticeably longer than the others, giving the characters and plot more room to breathe. Overall,…

The game is very good. However, the melodrama that is within the love triangle spoils the tension. There is no reason for it to be there and distracts from what otherwise would have been a good story. I just wanted the three lovebirds to die so I could focus on the horror aspect of the game and the survival elements. Love triangles may make sense with a teenage camp horror setting but not in military horror setting. Minus the melodrama I would recommend.

I really enjoyed the third game, House of Ashes. If I’m only talking about character interaction, story development, and overall narrative, then House of Ashes is the best in the series. I placed it second because I was hoping for a more mysterious ending, but instead it felt somewhat simple. Still, it was the…

Utterly horrible. I question the mental acuity of anyone who thinks this is a good game. I will state up front, it does look nice, but that's about it. There is virtually no gameplay to speak of aside from some very basic clicking to inspect nearby objects. Combat is reduced to boring quick time events that half the time make zero sense, and while the game wants to say it has choices, it really doesn't. And at no point in time is it at all scary. But the absolute worst offense is the writing.…

A short (approx 5 hours) interactive horror movie where you can play co-op and try and save (or kill) as many people as possible. It's the third game in the anthology and it's good fun. Players will make dialogue choices, pass quicktime events, and make decisions. Your actions shape the story and how things unfold. The story is good and I liked the characters. You play as a team of marines and end up falling into an ancient temple deep underground in Iraq, and you're not alone down there.…

very interesting story line, i personally liked this one more than man of medan. there was more character growth, decent pace. some mechanics were weird, you can move frames in this one which i liked better than walking in odd angles and having to switch which WASD button you press to go forward (may just be user error) did get stuck at one point with no visible barrier but easily fixed by restarting the game (also might have just been user error). very solid story driven game.

Boring story and one dimensional characters, barely any horror elements, plays more like a military drama. Hard crashes and/or freezes most of the time making it impossible to play for long without issues requiring a total system reboot to play again. Thankfully I bought this on sale for a low price, I wasn't a big fan of the previous entries, thought they were semi entertaining passable time killers,…
