positive · AI labelView post →Okay, this one is gonna require a few posts, but I like it, because of the many stories about how creatives had to do stealth workarounds of the Hays Code to tell adult stories in the film noir era, it’s my favorite. Here’s how Martha Vickers learned what an orgasm was on the set of THE BIG SLEEP.

neutral · AI labelView post →The Big Sleep is so bonkers. Martha Vickers gives a solidly great film noir sexy-dame performance in it, and there are at least three others in the movie that are better.
neutral · AI labelView post →Treated myself to THE BIG SLEEP last night. I haven't watched it in years and years and had forgotten many of the plot twists. Man, what a great film. The only time Bogey played Marlowe. Seems like he played him a dozen times, but nope. Just a perfect film.
positive · AI labelView post →Tonight’s movie selection is “The Big Sleep” (1946) starring Humphrey Bogart, Lauren Bacall, a fair number of cigarettes and some pretty great wardrobe
neutral · AI labelView post →Anyone remember the 1946 Bogie/Bacall noir film The Big Sleep? Bacall's father was an ancient Gen. Sternwood, paralyzed in a wheelchair and wrapped in a blanket, shivering in a sweltering greenhouse. I used to set my heat at 68 when I was young. Just now, I had to bump It from 73 to 74. I'm old.😬

neutral · AI labelView post →My favorite thing about The Big Sleep is that, as he was working on the screenplay for the movie, William Faulkner realized that he didn't know who killed the chauffeur and sank the car in the harbor. So he called up Chandler to ask him and Chandler said, "Actually I have no idea!"

Nerdy, educated, smart, up for being part of a PI's adventure, sexy, great banter, and VERY helpful. Her screen time:viewer impact ratio is huge. #NoirvemberChallenge

positive · AI labelView post →Rewatched Howard Hawks' 1946 adaptation of THE BIG SLEEP last night ahead of appearing in a staged reading version, and noted the great lobby card used as the DVD menu image: THE VIOLENCE-SCREEN'S ALL-TIME ROCKER-SHOCKER! Film Twitter, we really need to reference "the violence-screen" more often.
neutral · AI labelView post →"The Big Sleep" is the best noir film without any semblance of a cogent plot of all time. But just look at Lauren Becall. The only other movie I know that had this kind of love was, 'Desperately Seeking Susan' And I loved that film too. I'm Gen X so don't judge me! #TCMParty #TheBigSleep

neutral · AI labelView post →Nice detail in The Big Sleep (1946), when Bogart gets in a taxi and a woman is driving. You rarely see women driving taxis in these old movies, but this was filmed during WW2 when millions of women flooded the workforce. #film

The Big Sleep (1946), Humphrey Bogart & Lauren Bacall's best film together A staple of Film Noir & a piece that stands strongly anti-authoritarian in the face of the Hays Code with its incredible writing It's the film I always re-watch when I need inspiration
