I still really wanna make a list of videogame cigarettes and how they affect you in game. Like “System Shock 2: depletes health and replenishes psi” and “Metal Gear Solid: depletes health, reveals laser tripwires”. I’m obsessed with how cigarettes are implemented in such funny ways

The game itself is fantastic, don't let the negative review give you the wrong idea. The negative review is because they de-listed the original, and then upped the price a bunch for what is basically just the original with some steam achievements and some mods pre-installed, one of them literally the unofficial community patch. After the absurd talent, love, and skill that went into the System Shock 1 remake, this just feels like a disrespectful, low-effort cash grab.

Most of the changes in this version (both visual and gameplay) are just community-made mods for the old version. That is not a bad thing. Delisting the old version and charging triple the price for this one... that is a bad thing. While this is a good version of a great game, it would be way too expensive even without the context above. Don't buy it unless it's on 50%+ discount.

Playing System Shock 2 remaster and I'm reminded how much I love a "stuck in a single isolated location trying to figure out wtf is going on" game. What are some other examples of this type of setup? Prey, BioShock, Dead Space come to mind, which is funny cuz they're all "children" of System Shock

It's a sci-fi action role-playing game that builds a compelling mystery, has a twist I'd NEVER spoil, and gets downright creepy. You won't forget it... "How dare you, INSECT?!"

On one hand, System Shock 2 is literally one of the best games ever made. On the other, this remaster did not need to happen. It's over priced and frankly it introduces bugs that were not in the original game. Nightdive didn't give this one the care they typically do, they felt obligated and farted it out after remastering System Shock 1. There is likely no further patch comming. You're better off buying this on sale and installing the original 1999 version. If you absolutely must, get a fan…

I mean, it's a decent remaster and upgrade of a cult classic and one of my favorite games ever... If you hadn't had a chance to play it before (and now you don't, more on that in a sec) then this is probably the best way for you to do so. The optimizations to graphics and animations are a fantastic upgrade from the original game. I need to preface that System Shock 2 is perhaps one of the greatest games of all time and I don't want my review of THIS SPECIFIC RELEASE to detract from that or…

Good remasters cannot come at the cost of the original versions still being available. You're not going to strong-arm people into a more expensive version, you're just going to divert them into less legal avenues. Don't pay for hyper-inflation.

I'm really sad that they had to trim down their plans for a three-act game (the immersive sim curse strikes again - y'all need to BUY these games), but it seems they stuck the landing nonetheless and wrap up this tragic story. It's like Powerwash Sim + System Shock 2 + A lesbian breakup ballad.

An excellent remake that recently got a final polish-and-tuning update across all platforms. System Shock 2: 25th Anniversary Remaster As is often the case nowadays with numerous remasters of old games, I’ll probably state a somewhat overused but still very relevant thought about this product. Unfortunately, I can’t really judge how playable the game is in solo (I suspect it’s a bit better), but in multiplayer it’s an absolute nightmare. The four of us suffered a lot. First of all, if one person disconnects, the entire lobby crashes (reconnect? yeah, right). What’s worse is that in…

⭐⭐⭐🔵🔵 (3/5) It's HD, that's about it. Pretty expensive for what is effectively a HD patch. No attempts were made to improve the shortcomings of the original game or even fix any of the bugs they've introduced with the remaster. It's quite impressive how the original game works better than the remaster.

A nice little tune-up patch for an excellent remake. Despite System Shock 2 being the game to really define the immersive sim, System Shock 1 is much closer to being a survival horror game. Especially on Hard mode, although I'd set Mission Difficulty down to Medium or you get a ROUGH time limit.
