Like “System Shock 2: depletes health and replenishes psi” and “Metal Gear Solid: depletes health, reveals laser tripwires”. I’m obsessed with how cigarettes are implemented in such funny ways

What are some other examples of this type of setup? Prey, BioShock, Dead Space come to mind, which is funny cuz they're all "children" of System Shock

It's a sci-fi action role-playing game that builds a compelling mystery, has a twist I'd NEVER spoil, and gets downright creepy. You won't forget it... "How dare you, INSECT?!"

unlabelledView post →"New game bad, old game good," really is the north star of games criticism. BioShock was dumbed down for filthy casuals compared to the beloved classic System Shock, then Infinite came out and suddenly BioShock was always a hardcore masterpiece. Halo, Mario RPGs, Sonic, always the same story.

unlabelledView post →I have never played a single System Shock game.
unlabelledView post →A nice little tune-up patch for an excellent remake. Despite System Shock 2 being the game to really define the immersive sim, System Shock 1 is much closer to being a survival horror game. Especially on Hard mode, although I'd set Mission Difficulty down to Medium or you get a ROUGH time limit.

unlabelledView post →Know horror. The original haunted house in space. Once upon a time, the developers of Through The Looking Glass finished making Ultima Underworld and looked for a new challenge. Instead of a nightmare of man's fall to demons and black magic, they forged a nightmare of man's folly in crafting his own doom with AI and super-science... the original System Shock. They built a game which holds up to this day. System Shock has: - minigames - sniping - easy mantling - physics models so realistic,…

unlabelledView post →I am a 55 year old biker and trucker father, and probably one of the oldest people playing this game. I am a single father to my Son, who is 16 now. My son got this game for from his uncle, so we installed it on his computer and he started playing. By the end of the week he had 12 hours on this game. This was horrible for me, as it was already hard for me to find ways to spend time with my son, as he is always out with his friends or just watching YouTube. So i decided to make a Steam account…

unlabelledView post →Don't get me wrong, I love System Shock, and Nightdive made a great port of it. However, 5 years ago, an update was pushed that makes the movement so choppy and weird it makes me feel kind of sick. In this amount of time, who knows how many others tried this for the first time and bounced off of it because of how awful it is to look at. It's a huge shame. I've been a part of the Discord some time prior and they have responded and know the issue exists. It really sucks to have Nightdive still do…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Can't recommend this version of the game as today's state. The movement as of today's version is very stuttery, which, if you are not used to the original movement, it can go unnoticed. But when you know how you should be moving it's absolutely hideous. A previous version doesn't have this issue but rolling back to a previous version in Steam is a pain in the ass. (It's not the only issue but the most noticeable one and previous versions also have different problems) Do I recommend the game?…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I was in the mood to start a new playthrough of the System Shock remake, and I should really just gush a bit about how Shodan is great. If you've only played the remake or the original much later after it released, the Evil AI Antagonist in video games shtick will feel like a well trodden trope, but Shodan was one of the OGs. There's something about how she remains dignified and completely confident through the whole thing, simply judging that humans are Incorrectly Made, and deeply offended at…
