positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Super Mutant Alien Assault is a lot like Super Crate Box, but it brings a lot of new stuff to the table. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CjPKupwuqdQ The game is filled with all sorts of randomised features. In each level, there are some machines set to help you out. For example, a weapon dispenser that will give you a random weapon when you interact with it. Once you unlock a new weapon, it is then added into the possible weapons for the dispenser to choose from. There are some really cool…

You want to play something with your significant other? Then this arcade gun'n run with heavy platforming is an appropriate choice. Super Mutant Alien Assault requires you to exterminate pesky aliens that invaded your spaceship in a string of randomised rooms with a multitude of different weapons and special abilities. The fighting always happens in rather small rooms, cramped…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I really wanted to like this game, I honestly really did. As somebody who loved super crate box, I've been looking for a single screen puzzle-shooter to top it since. And well, SMAA is almost a contender. Almost. Touting itself as "The Citzen Kane of Super Crate Box Clones", joke or not, admittedly got my expectations up. The gameplay looked promising from the trailers, so I decided to pounce on it immediately. While the hype and love started oozing from every one of my pores as soon as I…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A FEW HOURS AFTER EA RELEASE: I originally saw this game in the Northernlion Super Live Show, where NL played it for an hour. The game has a variety of quality and unique weapons. Also consisting of three gauntlets of levels, each ending with its own boss. Which you can complete multiple times on different difficulties. Try it out it is definitely worth the $10. FIRST UPDATE ON AUGUST 25: The game is running smooth like always and all of the problems have been fixed that were mentioned in…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Note: This game was reviewed with a code provided by the developer this doesn't change my stance on the game. Super Mutant Alien Assault is the unofficial Super Crate Box sequel that all of us have been waiting for. Super Mutant Alien Assault as stated before is a very similar game to Super Crate Box which is a one screen platformer where the main goal is to survive long enough to see the other level, but this game has a ton of different objectives. A few of the things that levels have you…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The Citizen Kane of Super Crate Box clones. I don't think much more of a preview is required for this title but sure, lets do this. Super Mutant Alien Assault is gaming popcorn, it's delicious, fun, and probably bad for your heart. All jokes aside, the game is EXTREMELY well put together for an early access title. The level design, controls, and aesthetics of the game are all very sharp and pleasing. The games concept is rather simple but highly replayable. Kill monsters, make it as far as you…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Dash and Grenade Launcher makes me feel creative while playing this game. Interplay Game Mechanic, Epic Art Style and the killer sound track is what makes SMAA one of the best Rouge-like platformer out there. Killing is fun, and what adds to it, is a Grenade Launcher, Pogo Stick and Jet Pack. One of my best moment is when the sound track syncs with killing, situation gets beyond fun. SMAA feels good, plays good and keeps you creative with randomize weapon and explosives. It makes you feel…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →If you’ve played Super Crate Box but wished there was more to it chances are this game could fill that void. Story: The story in the game is pretty barebones and while I feel like it is there for the sake of it, it’s a nice addition nonetheless. Basically a fleet of alien ships found Earth and completely annihilated the entire planet except for 3 fleets of spaceships which managed to escape while carrying humans in cryostasis. Despite Humanity’s best efforts in order to preserve our species…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Simple, yet stylish, a very well crafted & polished arcade-style game with engaging gameplay. Weapon progression and item unlocks keep the game fresh and fun. Damn good fun with a friend in local co-op. OUTSTANDING ISSUES Please note that there is an issue with save-game files that the developer has NOT yet fixed, apparently - you can read about managing your save files between different PCs [url=http://steamcommunity.com/app/368680/discussions/0/142261352645969453/] HERE.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I cannot stop playing this game. Its addictive and incredible! It seems like a finished product already to me and i cant wait to see what else they have
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Super Mutant Alien Assault sports vibrant and brilliant pixel art partnered with fast-paced, intense action. The countless stream of unlocks means there was always something more to see and experience with every attempt at surviving each playthrough. All the while, dubstep beats playing in the background added to my nearly overloaded senses. The game is challenging and offers even more of a challenge with higher, unlockable difficulty modes. Although, I would have liked to see a couple of…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →DO NOT BUY THIS GAME ON PC. THE .EXE DOES NOT RUN PROPERLY ON PC. Game does not run properly as Gamemaker Studio (the engine this game is coded in) has issues with CPU timings, where it will speed up or delay framerate based on an internal clock that you cannot edit without opening the program in Gamemaker Studio. This is a known issue with pretty much every build of Gamemaker Studio and the few work arounds include forcing V-Sync on the game file through your graphics card settings and by…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's Super Crate Box, but with more enemies, more weapons, better pixel art, the barest hint of a story, and a lot more gameplay modes. If you played Super Crate Box and thought, "Man, this is good, but Id like it more if there were a little bit more to it—not too much, just a little bit," then look no further, this is the game for you. Pretty solid way to kill an afternoon.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →DISCLAIMER: Game provided by publisher for testing purposes. However I am not an employee, and I chose to test this game because I initially disliked it and thought I could provide a more balanced opinion. Freakin' game won me over regardless. It's difficult to get your head around it during the first couple of hours of gameplay, so I recommend playing with friends as much as you can early on. However once you've figured out the game there is incredible fun to be had in short bursts here!…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Can't get enough of this game. I really love how the different weapons force you to adapt your gameplay, and I love learning to get good with each new weapon. Soundtrack is great, art is beyond amazing, I'm gonna be playing this all week. That being said, here are some things I'd love to see: Windowed 2x view, so I can play without any distorted pixels (vierbit's art is what drew me to this initially) I seem to recall the original flash game had a mode where you had to run fuel rods back and…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The Guns are Amazing!!!! You feel like a true ninja when you try out these guns. The game is hard but once you get good at it and you start to learn tricks and you use them more often you start to get higher in the bosses and then before you know it you have beaten all of them. Even though it seems like a short game it takes a while to finish I haven't finished it and I am still loving it. The Dubstep Is Sick!!!! The music is very in sync with the gameplay and with the hyperdrive. The music is…

If you'd like a more detailed review: Super Mutant Alien Attack or #SMAA is a retro style side scrolling shooter game (but we all know this). So far, i'd have to say it's very good, and the fact that it's only early access atm, excites me even more. Because this means even more things will be added to this awesome game! And unlike some developers, I can say for a fact this game has been tested…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I think I would really enjoy this but the frame rate makes it impossible. The game speed depends on the FPS and so it's constantly shifting between a normal speed (although not fast enough) and what feels like slow motion. I have an up to date PC with a 2080 super so there should be no issue. ☹
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Super Mutant Alien Assault feels like playing an evolved Super Crate box with rogue-like elements such as levels to progress through and randomly generated levels. It works well. Check out my first impressions here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1AicBl2xnWs
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I can't recommend "Super Mutant Alien Assault" at its current price of $10 (see Cons for details), however I believe if someone can get it for $5 or less it would be a decent addition to his/her Steam library. Here I want to share my opinion about this game and talk about its pros and cons from my point of view. First of all, here's what I like about "Super Mutant Alien Assault": 1. Single-screen shooter: This game is made with a minimalist mindset, so it's not a side-scrolling shooter, but…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A little game with a lot of fun
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Initial impression and final judgement: A slower, not-as-fun, clone of Super Crate Box with a more interesting visual style. This game would be a real hit if it was faster, had an actual score, rewarded skill better, and was more intuitive. This review will be focusing on comparing it to Super Crate Box. Pros: - Lots of interesting gameplay and weapons - Art style is beautiful Cons: - not fast-paced at all, and the game lags at certain points as well, even with a beefy computer. - The…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Twitch gameplay meets rouge-like in this awesome game! Pros - well done metroid like retro-graphics - Epic music! (the sounds is crazy on my Grados) - Responsive and smooth controls - Weapons feel varied forcing you to use different tactics with what you have - Unique gamemodes that really add to the mix - co-op is totally sick - Pogo sticks of DOOOM! - Gameplay is challenging enough to be rewarding, but not overly so Cons - Its really hard to stop playing Features I'd love to see in the…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is really pumped on steroids with classic weapons and mechanics to keep it interresting with simple but rich controls. It is now a full fledged game, and a lot more fun and compelling than his flash predecessor. The sprites and animations are just cherry on top splendid.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →freaking fun game to play but also damn frustrating. but i enjoyed my time with it. it can be quite addictive. can't really think of any negatives, but read the other reviews and see if this is for you.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I am a fan of roguelite shooters and I know this a bit older and platform/sidescroll style. Maybe that is why I didn't enjoy it? I didn't like how I couldn't shoot up or at angles...I know I only spent 8 minutes, but it just seemed underwhelming compared to what else is out there.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I think this game is grossly overcosted. It is a slightly different, but not necessarily better, version of a free game; super crate box. Dirt cheap on sale I suppose
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Honestly this game is seriously cool and I got it at a very cheap price Everything about it is fun and its cool that it has coop You get a weapon, a sidearm, a special defense abilities a special weapon and a perk Weapons ranges from machine guns, grenade throws to lightsabers and many more that you unlock Sidearms can be a pistol or melee stuff and many more. Special weapons can slow down time or throws a force field or speeds you and more. Defense abilities can make a barrier around you, a…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →IN A NUTSHELL: Super Mutant Alien Assault is a frantic roguelite with a huge selection of weapons and items, all wrapped up in a beautiful pixel art package and made even better by the addition of couch co-op. I'm told that Super Mutant Alien Assault is a lot like Super Crate Box, but since I haven't played SCB (and maybe you haven't either), I'll give you a quick rundown on the idea of Super Mutant Alien Assault: The game is broken down into 3 zones (each comprised of 3 regular levels…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Great graphics, fair amount of content (replayable; ~6 hours worth of gradual unlocks), and a suspiciously mediocre soundtrack. I wonder what's coop mode like.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is literally crack. I cannot give it up. Buy it.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Super Mutant Alien Assault is what it first appears to be. It’s a ‘retro’ indie platformer that achieves what it sets out to do – it’s a fun platformer that lets you be a tiny robot with big guns that shoots up aliens. With polished gameplay, a well realised art style, and audio that slots in perfectly, it is hard to find much wrong with this game. It’s honest about what it is, and therefore is great fun. This is the sort of stuff I like to see on Early Access – dedicated devs producing solid…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →After 10 mins I've seen all the game has to offer. There is no actual powerups just weapons and items. Can't make yourself OP. Not really a roguelike. Music is awful. No options in the pause menu. COOP might be more fun, but you can do that with any other game in this genre better. Also developer is petty and can't take critisim.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Very nice arena platformer game. Whilst it's arsenal is not incredibly large, every piece of equipment is distinct, and many have some nice interactions between each other. Combination of self-damage from abundant explosives (grenades are a fully functional weapon class, and you're expected to use them), and limited manevuering space in levels, make an already difficult formula extra spicy. Even if short, it's a truly complete experience, and I didn't feel like something was lacking. I highly…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Mutant Alien Assault. web version before it was released as Super Mutant Alien Assault
unlabelledView post →Pros - More levels than Super Crate Box - Multiplayer - Nice graphics Cons - Both single player and multiplayer sucks - More levels don't matter - Graphics are too small - Basic weapon is awful - Unbalanced - Poor game feel - Weapons have an ammo count - Default weapon is awful - I give this game an award for the worst music of the 2010s. - It's boring - It's not fun - My eyelids were heavy playing this. - Not worth €9.99 - Not worth €0.50 cent (which is roughly how much I paid for this game)…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Super Mutant Alien Assault is a 2D retro pixel single screen arena platform wave survival shooter. Gameplay consists of jumping around 2D retro pixel procedurally generated arenas and shooting waves of 2D retro pixel blobby enemies. Controls can be customised, but the game resolution is locked, and can't be changed or customised to improve the poor quality visuals. A choice was made to use obsolete retro pixel "art" as a substitute for contemporary PC graphics. It's unclear if this is due…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Ahh! I can see those nastier and some bloody aliens coming to you. Are you ready to take them all. Pick up your Weapon, Gear up with Side Arms, Defensive and Special Moves, and ravage them down to Hell. Beautiful Backgrounds, Galaxies and Metal Song 1) The Game has 3 Galaxies and 3 Difficulties. 2) Every Galaxy runs with some sorts of rules, but with common goal i.e destroying aliens. 3) Wide Number of Weaponries to Choose From 4) Each Galaxy having Unique Bosses at last stage, defeating…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I had already played it on my psvita, but when I saw it in an offer here on Steam, I decided to buy it. It is a simple game, but fun and addictive. The music is fine and you have several weapons, each with different behavior. pretty pixelart. 6.5 / 10
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Pretty cool. Story was short and game is repetitive but still good.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's Awesome. Awesome, Awesome, Awesome, Awesome, Awesome and even more Awesome. The game is well balanced, very fun to play, the fight gives a super fulfilling feedback (X2 on explosions) and the pixelart is simply amazing everywhere. Can't love it.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A cute little game that is unlikely to offer more than a few hours of fun though it's no walk in the park in terms of difficulty. Worth buying during a sale. Robotics Deliciously well done and colorful pixel graphics and animations Well thought out enemies A sufficient amount of level designs that often go beyond 'kill everything' (even if that is the final goal) Mutations Music is mostly dubstep As you unlock abilities and weapons some of the new additions feel more like a hindrance than…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Great game, like Duck Game plus Crimsonland. Loving it.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It wears its influence(s) on its sleeves but overall seems to add enough to be enjoyable on its own merits. Add to that the great art and (not surprisignly) Vlambeer-ish polish and out comes a fun experience. My biggest issue would be longevity. I am not sure yet how higher difficulties might change this but I beat all four stages on normal on my third try and ~45 minutes. This surprisingly also included all bosses without having them seen them before, take that as a sign of fairness or too…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →At first glance this game reminded me of 2D flash games I played when i was younger. Little did I know it is completly different. While the overall taks you have to solve are limited, yet the game is really refreshing. Since you unlock new things with every playtrough the game-experience progresses with your progression. I really like the game and pkay it every now and then - mostly until I ragequit since I am too bad to beat one of the various boss enemies.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The gameplay is super fluid! I just hoped the setting would be a open space, like a usual plataformer with long levels. 8/10
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →What I really love about this game are the variety of weapons and abilities. The trick is learning to adapt your playstyle to suit what you find in each run.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Simply put, very challenging, very fun, even in its Early Access state. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3z9kIqzCymM Super Mutant Alien Assault is very heavily inspired by Super Crate Box, an inspiration they wear proudly. Easy to pick up and play, very challenging to master all of the weapons/items/scenarios. Lately this has been my 'go to' game if I want to fire something up for a quick 20-30m gaming session. While there's currently only a handful of arena types and a moderate selection of…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →What an amazing game! I just bought it because it was on sale and it looked colorful and dope and it ended up being both. By it, this developer deserves the money.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I got this game because it appears to be a remake of an old browser game I use to play to death that isn't available anymore. Although I wish to still play the original if possible, this remake is still a fun game and I can appreciate the more fleshed out mechanics. As advertised, a lot of this game is randomized. I initially found this to be a little frustrating, as circumstances are guaranteed to be against your favor at some point, but once I got experience with the mechanics and items the…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Some have supposed that, by its own self-defining limitations, the single-screen platformer (SSP) was doomed to fade. Indeed, by the early 2000s, what more could be accomplished within the quaint constraints of a 4:3 display? But such restrictions did offer one advantage: it forced designers to maximize every gameplay mechanic and onscreen pixel to provide the most compelling experience possible. Such is the case with Super Mutant Alien Assault, an SSP that, despite lacking those fancy…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →GREAT FUN! Frustrating at first till you get the hang of the controls, the weapons and the way enemies move but after that I can't tear myself away from it, it's now my go to game when I have a spare 10 minutes. It's pretty short but still challenging and great replay value like any great Arcade game. Playing online with friends using the Play together feature makes it even more fun, with the ability to revive your colleague when they die. Also thankfully you can't shoot each other but anything…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Another really fun game to play with your 1 true friend. Also tons of times the game ends on friendly fire. Just saying - you've been warned!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Arena survival shooter combined with some minor platforming that's very enjoyable as a casual roguelike game. What I'm missing here is upgradeable skills that are usually a core aspect of a roguelike. Here you can often change weapons but that's just about it. On the positive side: the game is very colourful and since you tend to play it in short bursts it doesn't overstay it's welcome. Recommended as a filler. 6/10
