And it turns out that, like an onion, he has many layers, all of them the same and exactly what they look like

unlabelledView post →In all seriousness, I tried to have this conversation back in the day about the movie Sucker Punch, which was legit massively over budgeted. gizmodo.com/the-real-rea... It did not go well TBH.

Dennard thinks there's enough material in this movie to fuel an entire career but he's going to try it in just two articles! The first one is FREE! 1900hotdog.com/2025/02/upse...

unlabelledView post →Sucker Punch is my go-to example of a movie where a high VFX budget equals lack of coherent story.
unlabelledView post →This is a big reason I hate how Sucker Punch is often propped up as some kind of feminist film, it’s not. The film scolds men for being the cause of women’s suffering and calls them pigs for sexualizing the girls, while making entertainment out of their suffering while sexually objectifying them.

unlabelledView post →The real tragedy is if Zack Snyder gets to do a "Snyder Cut" of Sucker Punch, I'll never get to see him make The Fountainhead—a movie so bad it will alter the landscape of cinema forever in the same way a bout of e. coli permanently reorders your intestinal tract.
unlabelledView post →Sucker Punch is a prime example of this. While many women can relate and enjoy the film, I’m one of them. It’s ultimately a man’s nightmare of existing in a feminine body in a patriarchal world. Where daydreams of violence are an escape and death is a kind of freedom.

unlabelledView post →yeah… in retrospect the couple times i watched Sucker Punch as a teenager i was just drowning in gender dysphoria & didn’t know what to call it, so i have no idea if the movie is even good or not.
unlabelledView post →that is really what 300 is. he wanted to make a cheesecake movie for the gays and the girls, much in the same way Sucker Punch is a kind of Russ Meyer fantasy movie

unlabelledView post →Randomly remembering the time Snyder cultists insisted the hallway fight in Guardians 3 ripped off Sucker Punch when in reality, it was a homage to Oldboy. AKA-The most famous hallway fight in any movie ever. I always get a chuckle out of that memory lol
unlabelledView post →Sucker Punch, even as a teen I was calling BS on Synder acting like it was some great feminist movie when clearly he just wanted to get hot girls in skimpy outfits guns.

unlabelledView post →I remember watching Sucker Punch before I understood stuff like "symbolism" or "subtext" and my takeaway was "why does this rad movie about women doing fight scenes have weird mental hospital interludes in it". and maybe that's what I was supposed to take away.

unlabelledView post →Exactly, here's Zack himself talking about how the movie criticizes how women are objectified and sexualized in the entertainment industry Sucker Punch is richly layered in its metaphors and visual language, which is fitting, considering the movie.

unlabelledView post →My go to answer is always Sucker Punch. Yeah, it's a Snyder film with Snyder film problems. But it's also hella creative, the action is fun and while the themes are clumsy, I actually quite like them.
unlabelledView post →watched SUCKER PUNCH last night and discovered that one of the top letterboxd reviews for it is a 20 paragraph essay about how it is the greatest feminist film ever made and ends with a PS, a PPS, and a PPPS. the PPPS is a link to the national suicide hotline
