I wanted to preface this review by saying that the game is, for a very small portion of the playtime, quite good. But there's a host of survival genre related barriers and annoyances that make most of the playtime spent on it very tedious. I'll start with good things: 1. The combat style is enjoyable for ranged characters and is pretty well fleshed out. There's some very clear winners in skill choices, but overall still enough diversity to keep things interesting. 2. The storytelling and…

This is a close one, because I do want to recommend this game, but the game is not what it wants you to think that it is. This is just a turn based RPG. The other aspects that make it seem unique are non-mechanics that you mostly ignore. They are barely implemented, or just worse than the standard. Crafting- Below bog standard. You open a crafting interface, queue up a craft, and it drops into your stash some number of turns later. The only new thing here is it's actually being done by an…

Best After a Few Tweaks Subterrain: Mines of Titan is much better than the "mostly positive" reviews it received lead to believe, and it's a big improvement over the first game as well. But it takes a while and some tampering with the game's difficulty for things to start working out the way you want. The easiest way to enjoy the game is to do what I did: once prompted to select the difficulty, disable the "Production Cost" option. Then, since you are not a sissy, increase base resource…

This Game is bad. "ˆMeika" got it right. This game actively does everything in its power to discourage you from playing it. The Forum is filled with people saying they are overpowered but at the same time telling you that you have to "Rush the ending at level x." Movement is Slow. In the dungeon this is OK and exactly What you want. On the overworld, it makes everything annoying. When I have to run back and forth between opposite ends of the Base just to talk to someone, it takes…

I got impressed by this game`s demo around one year ago - Stoneshard in space! - and bought it on release. Sadly I had no time to play it until recently, but when I did I got a bit frustrated with it. The good: - GORGEOUS pixel art and setting; - Interesting skill tree that evolves with your character - you can`t really be a jack of all trades without some heavy investment; - Compelling main story. The bad: - The gameplay loop feels VERY repetitive after you go down your first levels; -…

Its okay i enjoyed my time with the game but a lot of wasted potential. Game introduces you to some sort of colony management thing but very soon you realize that it has pretty much no impact on you and you have no impact on it (except feeding it resources) Not a single thought went into combat system - if you play the game on normal/hard difficulty i am pretty confident you can finish the game without using a single utility item such as grenades/poisons/traps....unfortunately the game…

You know how in movies and manga the concept is good but you are stuck with a spineless protagonist that lets everyone walk all over them despite him holding all the cards in his hand? This is simular, you are a newcomer in an isolated starving camp cut off from civilization and the only one whose magic mutation allows to venture into monster territory to bring back food and resources, and yet everyone talks you down, extorts you and takes advantage of you, your landlord threatens to kick you…

I like to look at the review history of people who give games negative reviews, it lets me know how seriously I should take them. For example, one of the "most helpful" negative reviewers has this gem for their Stellaris review: https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3214384117 Yes. That's his actual review. And while you're contemplating whether or not to report him or, if from an evolutionary biology POV, he could be on to something, it's worth recognizing that that's not…

Honestly, just not very fun. Looks good, sounds good, but the gameplay loop kinda sucks. Everything costs money which doesn't make much sense. I am the only one able to do anything in this camp but they charge me to do everything? Even to scrap items? Give me a break. I can't refill my oxygen tanks with all the oxygen on the surface? I can't just recharge my lamp? I have to make a whole new one? I have to re-farbricate everything since repair kits lower max durability of the item? Everything is…

I finished the game on hard. It's not a _terrible_ game. And I found parts of its core loop to be a not-too-terrible way to casually spend an evening. But it does outstay its welcome, without enough new things or interesting things to really make it enjoyable. About halfway through, I was mostly just working to finish it in order to have it be finished.

A reasonably decent gameplay loop that starts to significantly suffer from tedium in the mid to late game. Once you hit somewhere around mid-game, you've milked all the depth you can out of the systems. There's some skillpaths down the road, but progression is so limited you won't actually get to master your skills in a playthrough or unlock everything in a tree (even if you hyperfocus). There's also some writing blunders. A character tells you they'll put an item (whiskey) in the store box to…

This is what I wanted from Underrail and never got. It's got crafting, researching, looting for days, bartering, recycling, exploration, boatloads of weapons and gear, and a fully fledged levelling system that works both actively as you repeat tasks, and passively through skill points. It's an absolute blast so far, and if you couldn't vibe with Underrail, please consider giving this one a shot.

I follow the instructions precisely, and then the game doesn't progress. I watched the highest viewed and highest rated video of another player and they were also confused for over 5 minutes!! When I first stumbled on this game, I thought it was a continuation of the first, or at least somewhat similar to the first sub terrain to come out. NOT AT ALL! The way the mechanics of the game are set up aren't the best. I highly recommend anyone to first look up videos of game play or honest reviews before purchasing. I personally didn't find it that fun to play, but hey, to each their own. Research before you buy!!!

I like the story, but it comes across painfully slow. I'm giving this game a positive review, but it's borderline. I think Jupiter Hell or Doom RL probably give you the best impression of what gameplay is like; it's not a rogue like but the gameplay and atmosphere is very similar to those games. However, it also has a camp management aspect that those games don't have where you have to gather resources to forge equipment and keep other survivors alive. I played on a custom difficulty that maxed the combat difficulty but kept the camp management…

This game is hot trash, and you don't realize it until you're past the return window. There so much crap you have to handle. Enemies cut you, poison you, infect you, and very rarely miss you. You're supposed to fight them at range and then switch to your melee, this takes 2 turns of free hits from them. Devs decided it would be an awesome idea to include durability IN EVERYTHING, and your ♥♥♥♥ doesn't lasts more than 2 trips to the mines. Oh, but you're the chosen one who is the only one…

It has a few issues but once you turn of the credit cost for research and salvage (which is kind of nonsense) then the game becomes pretty good. The side quests are very dissonant with the setting and main quest, but the gameplay is good and there's a satisfying aspect to gaining skills by using them Edit: There are a lot more bad choices as I progress through the game, but not enough to justify a thumbs down review so it will stay positive. Had high hopes for this turn based grid combat rpg. Unfortunately the game is TEDIOUS and BORING. You'll spend most of your time scrolling and clicking menus, doing menial labor inside and outside menus. You'll be sent on unbelievable stupid quests which are in contrast with the story settings and logic. You'll engage in boring combat with no tactics nor thinking, just mindlessly clicking the enemy till it dies. It seems the devs didn't think things trough but just slapped ideas that count…

Reasonably solid turn based RPG with a potentially interesting setting that has relatively satisfying progression. But honestly, if it didn't feel like it was worth my money, I wouldn't recommend, because while it's very satisfying at the start, it rapidly becomes somewhat tedious as quests start requiring you to wander around the base (The most boring and featureless part of the game) from NPC to NPC, and the zones you go into become quickly apparent that they're like 99% one of either a…

Very interesting story and some really fun mechanics. My problem is there's too many interactions and time constraints. Equipment has durability that can be repaired once or twice before it's unusable and breaks permanently. You can't refill the lamp or oxygen tank, so you're constantly bleeding resources making new ones. This was less fun than the first Subterrain but it's not necessarily a bad game. A lot of the tension and pressure that made the first game engrossing is minimized by the turn based combat, but on the other hand the enemy and world variety is much better and keeps the game from getting stale, which inevitably happened before the first game reached its end. More of a side path than a real sequel.

It starts out cool, but eventually grows extraneous. The levels are huge and wide open, which wouldn't be so much of a problem if you didn't have to constantly check oxygen and light to keep moving around. The enemies get a half-dozen different status effects that each require their own item to counter-act, and if you make any mistake at all you are either dooming yourself to a lot of backtracking or you are just straight up screwed depending on how deep you are into the level.

Game is fun, lots of research, things to loot, base to upgrade, as well as your gear while you're scavenging around the mines under your base. However, it's really strange and dumb the game doesn't keep track of what you've already researched for certain items, allowing you to research them at high cost 10 times for no benefit. The turn based nature of the game made respecting the time limit much less hectic, and at least on normal mode the time limit is very generous. I think the danger level maxes out at like 15 or 20 and I finished the game at danger 7. The storytelling is I think okay. There are a LOT of NPCs and they each have a little one-note story to them. A pretty fun turn based exploration and crafting game. Reminiscent of Ultima 6/7 in the sheer amount of stuff to do, lots of secrets and combat. It is also a roguelike in that the ID tags you find along the way can be used to give subsequent playthroughs better stat boosts, which is pretty helpful. Pixel graphics are well done and readable, with some gorgeous post processing effects. Very disjointed, no clear design was thought of during creation. It takes the fun bits of Stoneshard but also a lot of the bad ones. Multiple systems that do not interact with each other well, a painfully slow tutorial that makes you walk back and forth doing 10 fetch quests. Crafting can only be done at a personal storage box, leading to multiple transfers of items back and forth and waiting until an NPC meanders over to do the task. Very RNG-tilted combat with misses, fumbles and critical…

The game starts off a bit slow, but opens up substantially as you progress into the story. This is an RPG with a story you actually care about. It's heavy on text, so be prepared to read paragraphs often. The writing is good but not great. Overall the atmosphere and game mechanics make this RPG feel really fun and provide plenty of depth and customization. 8/10

I had a lot of fun exploring the world, collecting crafting & research loot, and building up a character. The game throws a fair bit of time-based pressure mechanics on the player, but those can be opted out via the difficulty selection screen.

So are the concepts of nanobots and mutants being largely responsible for the story. The second game is isometric, though, as opposed to top-down in the first. There are many other differences. The…
