unlabelledView post →Okay, so (1) Yes, STRAW DOGS is at least quasi-fascist, (2) the "FIRST" American film that is a fascist work of art?!?!?!?!
unlabelledView post →#NowWatching #FilmSky 'Straw Dogs'. 1971 (Sam Peckinpah) The 1970s produced numerous works of film controversy - Sam Peckinpah's second serious look at violence would prove to cause even more outrage than The Wild Bunch. You can read my writing below: ⬇️ letterboxd.com/hunkykubrick...
unlabelledView post →Finally started the MAD MAX rewatch and love what a strange movie the first is. It's like this fun house mirror version of STRAW DOGS set in a dystopian future bookended by absolutely sicko vehicle chases.
unlabelledView post →For @letterboxd.social, I had the privilege of speaking with one of our greatest filmmakers, Kiyoshi Kurosawa, about my favorite film of the year, Cloud. We discussed him being influenced by Straw Dogs, his desire to return to his old mode of filmmaking, whether he’s seen Here, and more. boxd.it/2Eg

Elaine May's A NEW LEAF, Alan Arkin's LITTLE MURDERS, Sam Peckinpah's STRAW DOGS + more. Listen in here: podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/a...

unlabelledView post →one of my moots here recommended The Old Gun/le Vieux Fuseuil last week, but can't recall who, sorry! cracking film, Straw Dogs meets Die Hard, especially timely for its dealing with nazis. with the beautiful Romy Schneider and the fabulous Philippe Noiret, and on UK Prime
unlabelledView post →Extraordinary to think I am watching a film made 112 years ago. And that at the halfway point between then and now, 56 years ago, I would have been watching DIRTY HARRY, GIÙ LA TESTA, DUEL, STRAW DOGS, McCABE & MRS MILLER, THE ABOMINABLE DR PHIBES, THE DEVILS, MACBETH & THE MUSIC LOVERS.
unlabelledView post →Why is it when I decide to watch a movie every once in a while, I pick something upsetting? Tonight's movie is Straw Dogs (1971) and fuck, I'm so glad I got rid of my alcohol because I'm not even an hour into this movie and I had the rare urge to drink. Warm nonalcoholic cider it is! XD

unlabelledView post →Good heavens. The following all were released in 1971 • STRAW DOGS • A CLOCKWORK ORANGE • THE DEVILS Now *that* is a grim little film festival.
unlabelledView post →Stewart Lee on westerns and politics. Doesn't get better. I always find Pat Garrett a tough film to watch (those poor chickens) but I should probably do so again. I already have a couple of Peckinpah's lined up. I also want to rewatch 'Straw Dogs'. www.theguardian.com/commentisfre...
unlabelledView post →Happy 100th birthday to director Sam Peckinpah. His bold use of sound has been very inspiring to me. Straw Dogs made brilliant use of sonic abstractions. The Wild Bunch changed the way gunshots sounded in movies. And The Getaway has one of the best audio intros of any movie ever. A sonic powerhouse.
unlabelledView post →Basil Kirchin’s extremely rare soundtrack for The Shuttered Room (1967) has appeared on YouTube! A horror film that predates Straw Dogs, but has barely been given any credit for its eerie qualities. Still not on blu-ray. FINALLY I get to hear this soundtrack after decades of longing.

unlabelledView post →First watch: Le vieux fusil (1975, dir. Robert Enrico). Philippe Noiret & Romy Schneider star in this controversial but popular war drama-turned-exploitation movie. I'm glad I went in blind on this one because it is best described as Straw Dogs + Inglorious Basterds + And then there were None! 1/2
unlabelledView post →On this day (6th July) in 1991, the Scala Cinema was showing Bring Me the Head of Alfredo Garcia (1974) and Straw Dogs (1971) as a Sam Peckinpah double bill.
unlabelledView post →Okay. I'm not crazy. They did have a shotgun racking sound effect for a double barrel. Lmao. #wrongturn a solid 3/5. Not a masterpiece, but it does what it needs to and the ending rips. It captures a bit of the energy the end of Straw Dogs and I love that shit in a movie. Cheers #frightclub

unlabelledView post →This episode is a bit longer than normal and no wonder as this time around we are tackling Peckinpah's most controversial work "Straw Dogs". Luckily we brought in Peckinpah expert @liamhdempsey.bsky.social (Spocklight) to tackle this highly divsive film. open.spotify.com/episode/5y1q...
unlabelledView post →I've never got over him saying in the EPK for Hot Fuzz that he hadn't based in on Straw Dogs like YOU thought, he'd based it on the original novel the film was based on. The title of which he then got clunkingly wrong.
unlabelledView post →And started the FURIOSA pre-game MAD MAX marathon with the original. Such a fascinating movie. Has more in common thematically with stuff like STRAW DOGS or even with Wes Craven's LAST HOUSE / HILLS HAVE EYES -- just with sicko vehicle stunts! -- than the spaghetti western meets Heavy Metal sequels.

unlabelledView post →Sounds like The Wicker Man! I think that’s why that film is so effective. You can draw a line from that to 28 Years Later, including Straw Dogs on the way. Communities that don’t include you and their deep-rooted weird ways
unlabelledView post →I may not be the audience for this film. (Yes, Bear's the villain; DUH. I saw STRAW DOGS, thanks.) But I'm fuzzy on what love is in this film. I *was* that 20-odd sad sack crushing from afar and never once thought "Man, she's so hot. I wanna serve her her dead cat for lunch." It runs long. 2/?

unlabelledView post →Last day of being home sick, headed back to work tomorrow. I've watched a lot of movies last couple of days. Today, starting off with one I haven't watched in fifteen plus years, but watched a zillion times in the 90s and early 2000s. Probably my fav Dustin Hoffman film, this one or STRAW DOGS.

unlabelledView post →Wonderful film, the director Ted Kotcheff has super weird filmography. Wake in Fright...basically the Australian Straw Dogs, First Blood...Rambo debut and Weekend at Bernie's.
unlabelledView post →THE VISITORS (1972) -dir Elia Kazan Nothing makes me giddy like discovering a film from my favorite era that has somehow escaped me all these years. An unknown, pre-shitty James Woods and an impossibly young Steve Railsback face off in a domestic, Vietnam-era companion to STRAW DOGS. Movies rule.
unlabelledView post →“Quick, put something else on!” “How about this?” “Is it a kid’s film?” “Sounds like it, it’s called ‘Straw Dogs’” “OK that should do”
unlabelledView post →Again, this is Straw Dogs (Not recommending this movie, but it is a movie about a dude defending his house from intruders with fatal traps. It has a lot of questionable shit in it besides that but it's well made)
unlabelledView post →Alonso says it's a "Bugs Bunny movie." Stuff blowing up in Daffy Duck's face. 😂 He also said it was like if you crossed The Ref with Straw Dogs. They made War of the Roses comparisons (saying it's better than The Roses). Seems like they had some fun with it. www.youtube.com/watch?v=ORmH...

unlabelledView post →#nowwatching M.F.A. (2017). I've seen a few people on here mention this, and it sounds like a interesting revenge film. Pretty harrowing so far - think I Spit On Your Grave or Straw Dogs. Curious to see how they blend in the themes of art, expression, and emotion. #horrorsky
unlabelledView post →Watched Sam Peckinpah's 1971 film Straw Dogs. That movie was rough. Incredibly disturbing and nihlistic. The more movies I watch from 1971, the more I think that era is similar to our own.
unlabelledView post →Having resolved THAT confusion, he could have gone on to conflate his 2003 book Straw Dogs with the 1971 Sam Pekinpah film Straw Dogs
unlabelledView post →The cinematic poet of onscreen carnage. I go... Fave: Straw Dogs has an intensity and an unsettling vibe that's unshakable, but I can't call that a fave. The Wild Bunch, though? GAH. Ferociously badass, a film to soak up like bread in broth. Least fave: The Ballad of Cable Hogue was *alright.*

unlabelledView post →213. Straw Dogs (1971 film): if there was a whiff of edge to The Wild Bunch, Straw Dogs is a “misunderstood” 13 year old writing in his diary edgy. Lanthimos-levels of misanthropic worldview fabrication & contrivance. Bogus, but a few subtle notes about masculine rituals of violence are neat. 4/10
