Startopia
Developer My Little Planet Ltd, Mucky Foot Productions Ltd
Startopia is a video game by Mucky Foot Productions (formed by ex-Bullfrog employees) and published by Eidos in June 2001, in which the player administers various space stations with the task of developing them into popular hubs. The game has a comical overtone, with lighthearted humour and cartoonish aliens. The game was re-released on GOG.com in September 2012 and was added to the Steam catalogue in October 2013.… From Wikipedia (CC BY-SA 4.0)

We’ve got a good little group in, but would love some more company! 💖 Twitch.tv/iamhuld And don’t forget to tell your friends and family to donate! gofund.me/fbdcf4f8

The extreme of this was StarTopia that ran the game at 12Hz, but rendered at whatever - you really couldn't tell. Every time I've worked with delta time in gameplay - TROUBLE!

unlabelledView post →In the game "StarTopia" there was a species of alien you could eventually attract to your starbase that just liked pleasure and would poop money. Anyway this is how I often envision the United States, and oddly enough I say that positively. I DON'T want us to be Kasvagorians. Only Gem Slugs.
unlabelledView post →Startopia is an old-ass (and very British, ymmv if that affects things) starbase building game which has influences from a wide variety of real-time sim games, including juggling different alien species under one roof. I don't think its quite as in-depth as Tropico's factions, but IS 0 away team bs

unlabelledView post →I still enjoy playing StarTopia 25 years later. Of course, if you don't like the game, you can always torture it... www.youtube.com/watch?v=xfRt...
unlabelledView post →Startopia was my favorite game for years! Just ahead of Theme Hospital. I should check that out.
unlabelledView post →Startopia is a space base building game. Kind of like Galacticare but less medical. Colonization is a Civ game about colonizing America
unlabelledView post →daaaaang it just clicked in my head that you made that unofficial shadow rendering patch for StarTopia after Muckyfoot shut down. i loved that game & that patch was so cool - so uhh THANKS!
unlabelledView post →It can be a brutal game when things start to go wrong, but I've also played it through a few times. Wish we could get a more light hearted version, to satisfy the Startopia itch 😁

unlabelledView post →I worked with a lot of the crew on that game. It has a long lineage back through StarTopia and Theme Park :-)

unlabelledView post →Startopia - this game is a hoot and it can currently be bought for $6.99 on steam. Can’t think of a better use of 7 bucks
unlabelledView post →It's not the best or deepest management game but Startopia is one of the most charming of them. Running a space station full a bunch of cartoony aliens all with specific wants and needs. This is one those games that will suck me in for 6 or 7 hours at a time, even now.

unlabelledView post →oh yeah i was going to follow this up with evidence also in case you don't know the game. Startopia by mucky foot, which was a company formed out of ex-bullfrog staff sans The Great Molyneux, and it is 10000% a bullfrog game
unlabelledView post →Look it's tempting to say "Dungeon Keeper" or "Evil Genius" or "Startopia" or "Freelancer" but I know all of those are nostalgia baited poisoned chalices. But I know what game needs a second shot and given enough money would do gangbusters Republic: The Revolution. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Republi...
unlabelledView post →I would *love* to have a new city-building game inside an array of space habitats. Startopia was 25 years ago
unlabelledView post →I did per-object impostors on a game called StarTopia back in 2001 and it worked really well even on those crappy old cards. But it was a bunch of work, and I'm not sure how well it would work with modern PBR rendering pipelines. Maybe one day I'll try it again.
unlabelledView post →Bullfrog games are the absolute best balance of fun and experimentation. I still have my boxed copies of Dungeon Keeper 1 and 2, absolutely lost my shit when Dad agreed to let me get DK2. I highly recommend Mucky Foot’s 2001 game Startopia as well. That’s an all timer for me.
unlabelledView post →I still play "Startopia", a game that came out in 2001.

unlabelledView post →A #WIP of the #Startopia Siren V2 that may become final I wanted to do something like this because in the #game Staropia, sex is a laser. This is a VERY obscure reference, and I am sure I will get confused looks, but I think it looks artistic. Sex is a laser, Karen, just go with it lol
unlabelledView post →I'm guardedly optimistic about the thought of someone making a new #Startopia next year. I've been playing the original version recently thanks to #GOG and it still holds up. We'll see what they do with it. https://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2019/08/19/starbase-startopia-announced/
