Developer Totally Games
Star Wars: X-Wing Alliance is a 1999 space simulation video game, the sequel to both Star Wars: TIE Fighter and Star Wars: X-Wing vs. TIE Fighter. X-Wing Alliance presents the story of the Azzameen family, a family of space traders. The player assumes the role of Ace Azzameen, the youngest of the Azzameen children, juggling military duty as a fighter pilot for the Rebel Alliance, and allegiance to his family, flying… From Wikipedia (CC BY-SA 4.0)

60 of 188 · most liked firstStar Wars, X-Wing Alliance The Best Star Wars Space flight simulator to date. Quick disclaimer, I am by no means saying the TIE Fighter or X-Wing are lacking, far from it, they are very, very good games with great story and skirmish missions. It’s just that Alliance took all that made its predecessors great then added more ships, options, tools and even an editor for us to create endless missions. Unlike with X-wing & TIE Fighter you are not a member of a major faction. This is the…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I wish Disney would just fund a company who would passionately create another game like this. A legit one.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →In order for you to graduate your filthy peasant status you must: 1) Buy the game 2) Download Tie Fighter Total Conversion mod 3) Follow the install instructions 4) Profit. You won't play this using the steam overlay because the mod doesn't work well with it, however this mod effectively brings the game up to a modern playable level. Highly recommend Beam Eye Tracker and a joystick or two.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I wanted to like this as a throwback but. Unfortunately this game REQUIRES a joystick (flightstick specifically) to play. Tried remapping, tried utilizing a PS5 and gamecube controller as a flightstick stand in... Do NOT buy this game unless you have a flightstick specifically for flight sim type games. Will NOT work on keyboard/mouse and will NOT work with controllers such as PS5/XB/GC as a stand in
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is an absolute blast and easily fits in the top 10 best game experiences of my life. It is a niche game mostly for Star Wars fans or Joystick flying fans. If you're one or both than this is your game. Disclaimer: I used to play this when it came out but for nowadays I would always recommend installing the XWAUpgrade mod. It will bring the entire game up to day and playable on modern systems with enhanced features while fully keeping the game and campaign intact. It is a free must…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Get the XWA upgrade and TFTC and you will have one of the best space sims out there. Utilising the recently discovered co-op campaign mode looks to be on their horizon too. VR is coming along nicely and there's even the option to play with mouse and keyboard. If you have a N52/Razer Tartarus laying around, that combined with mouse will give you one of the most unique gaming experiences you'll ever have and will more than cover all the important binds you'll ever need. Dpad for fast pitch and…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Another super sweet classic space pew pew game. Has a solid story mode, fun ships to fly, and looks alright with the help of modding.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is one of the best space combat games still to this date - and I'm not even a Star Wars fan. Great storyline (53 missions), tons of amazing fighters and freighters and the combat is superb. Yes, the graphics are outdated, but there are mods that give this game a bit of shine! https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3080129755 https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3077928497
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is a great game. I have spoken.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →In my ongoing and likely futile effort to write a Steam review for every game in my library (#169 out of 555)... it's time for Star Wars: X-Wing Alliance. As I write this review, Star Wars: X-Wing Alliance is just over twenty years old. And that is a very, very depressing thought. The X-Wing series revolutionized the flight combat genre, and X-Wing Alliance was the last game in that genre to be developed for the PC. Today, the genre is effectively dead, and the Star Wars license--despite the…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game has not been topped. Its older, but still great. I use my Xbox controller and keyboard without any issues at all. The story is pretty good and there is a nice skirmish mode. A great piece of space flight sim gaming. There are lots of variety in missions. Especially with the freighter. I recommend this game.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →For the best experience... Download the PDF manual to your phone/tablet, dust off the old Joystick, or prepare to map a gamepad by hand, and optionally (highly recommended) get dgVooDoo* for higher resolutions and windowed mode. This seems to only really work on Windows, I've had no luck with WINE/Proton, but it works great under Windows. Anyways... This game is very detailed. If you like the Star Wars Universe, and you like moderately realistic flight simulators, that take skill to master,…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I'm not leaving a negative review of this game because it's a bad game but If you're trying to run this on modern systems running on Windows 10 or 11 you will face bugs like a lot of random freezes where you'll have to use the task manager to end task and strange music audio bugs. I even installed the X-Wing Alliance upgrade mod and the game wouldn't start. I also do not recommend buying this if you don't own a flight stick of some sort. Yes you can play this with an Xbox controller which I own…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →use xwaupgrade and you are good to go with this classic game. Last in the line of X wing games this one add more story then skirmishes
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Get the XWAU or it's going to look dated.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It is OK!! But some should develop the X-Wing Simulator game further one. We need a modern Version of a really complex Simulator for the Star Wars Frenchising
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →As a dedicated loyalist to the Empire, it’s difficult to admit, but X-Wing Alliance is an achievement that cannot be ignored. While my tactical preference remains with the precision and discipline of the Imperial Fleet, this final entry in the legendary flight-sim series is a mechanical masterpiece that demands respect from any serious pilot. The leap in scale here is staggering. For the first time, you truly feel the vastness of the conflict. The introduction of multi-crew ships and the…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →i got this game to get tie fighter total conversion. totally worth it! :)
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A FANTASTIC GAME WITH MODS & VR A TRUE CLASSIC
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is amazing. I've probably beaten the single player campaign over 20 times since 1999. Get the X-Wing Alliance Upgrade mod, as well as the Tie Fighter Total Conversion Mod to get a more graphically up to date experience. The extent to which the modders have pushed this game engine is incredible. They even added VR Headset support. Even today this is a fantastic experience that has countless hours of content. One of my favourite features is the Combat Simulator that allows you to…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →this is what squadrons shouldve been 5v5 space moba, thats about the most boring and uninspired things ive ever seen. please dont deactivate me im only a droid chinken nunget
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I tried this back in 2000 but it had a graphical bug that made it impossible to play for me. 20 years later I just decided to have another look while waiting for squadrons, and boy am I glad I did. Xwing Alliance Update bumped up the graphics tremendously and tonight, I'll be having a go on VR. swwwweeeeeet
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Legendary game, for me the best of entire Star Wars franchise. Bought it originally when it came out a million light years ago in a galaxy far far away. I like the original story line that only reluctantly connects you with the original trilogy instead of putting you into one of those characters. You start as Ace Azameen, the son of a shipping conglomerate that fell on hard times and even harder competition that uses every method to run you out of business. In this game you get to fly…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →LucasArts launched its last real space combat shooter on the market in 1999. In X-Wing: Alliance, we take on the role of civilian pilot ‘Ace’ Azameen, the youngest member of an old transport dynasty of the same name. Set between Episodes V and VI, the family, which initially wants to pursue its business neutrally, must increasingly assert itself in a galaxy-wide conflict between the Rebel Alliance and the Empire as well as unscrupulous competitors. However, the Azameens, who have been in…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I especially like the simulator. I can customize any scenario I want. The scripted missions are boring.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Selling 25 years old game for 10$ and not giving it keyboard support is just ridiculous...
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Those who have this game should really look up XWA 2020. Best mod ever, especially when paired with the Tie Fighter Total Conversion.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I have this game in hardcopy, also on GOG. The best game in the X-Wing series, especially with the upgrade mod, and also there is the TIE Fighter Total Conversion for those so inclined. https://www.xwaupgrade.com/ https://www.moddb.com/mods/tie-fighter-total-conversion-tftc Back in the day I played custom skirmishes in the "Combat Simulator" endlessly, you can set up all kinds of random nonsense. The game says "X-Wing" in the title, but you could fly all of Rebel and Imperial fighters in the…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I grew up on the older TIE Fighter and X-Wing games but the heavier focus on story in the campaign and greater complexity of missions makes this game still fun so man years later. And thanks to [url=https://xwaupgrade.com/]X-Wing Alliance Upgrade project, you can actually make it look pretty great on a modern machine. That last mission in the 2nd Death Star is bloody frustrating, though...

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I keep coming back to this game and there are very good reasons for it. Although the graphics are very outdated the game surpasses in story, combat, missions, characters. There is a mod on the internet to improve most graphics models, known as XWAU 2020 Mega Patch and I highly suggest it. The story follows a pilot named Ace Azzameen and his introduction in being a pilot into his family business until actually becoming a hero for the Rebellion, this is great for the first missions are a…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Was inspired by EA's announcement of Squadrons to reinstall this game and I was not disappointed, as it is still outstanding. The gameplay has stood the test of time from 1999, and with the X-Wing Alliance Upgrade Mod installed it stands on it's own visually even now. If you love the idea of huge space dogfights in skirmish mode or just want to play one of the finest space fighter sims ever, get this game!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Normally when going back to play games from long ago you remember it being a lot harder the first time. With this one, thats not the case, its just as unforgiving as it was 15 years back.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Gameplay: 8/10 Story: 8/10 Graphics: 9/10 Performance: 8/10 Overall: 8/10 Unlike the previous title, Star Wars X-Wing vs. Tie Fighter, which felt more like a multiplayer experience with a singleplayer tacked on. Star Wars X-Wing Alliance feels like the point where the series finally comes together. Right away, the graphical jump is obvious, this is a huge step up from the earlier games. Ships are more detailed, textures are softer, environments feel more alive, and the scale of everything is…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →X-Wing: Alliance is a game I had to have sitting in the launcher for 30 minutes because I played the whole game through the executable and didn't realize it wasn't connected to Steam. Set after the Battle of Hoth during the Galactic Civil War, you play as Ace Azzameen, a pilot working for his family's trading company. After a long prologue where your family is screwed over by their rivals, the imperial loyal Viraxo, Ace and his siblings join the Rebel Alliance to shoot at both the Imperials…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Decades after release this still ♥♥♥♥♥ upon Squadrons from a great height. Buy it, install the upgrade (and the TIE Fighter remake if you enjoy playing the good guys) and play the best space dogfighter on the market
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →X-Wing Alliance: Prepare To Die Edition™
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Simply the best star wars first person starfighter game on the market bar none, though a bit dated now, there are mods out there which take this back to the top.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Reviewing games I played a long time ago: This is my favourite of the classic Star Wars space combat trilogy, but that's mostly because this was the first one I played. As a teenager Star Wars fan I was completely blown away by it, mainly the story. I remember I even wrote some (probably awful) fan fiction around the Azzameen family :D I still vividly remember some very tense and nail bitting missions where I would escape the Empire into hyperspace in the nick of time. Great stuff.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I can't recommend this game on the sole basis that it requires a flightstick plugged in to even be able to play it. I've yet to figure out how to trick my PC into thinking it has a flightstick. I therefore can't start the game. Which is a shame, because X-Wing Alliance was a solid title when I first played it years ago. Please develop an easy work around to use Steam controllers!
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →STAR WARS: X-Wing Alliance is often considered the ultimate evolution of the classic X-Wing space simulator series, combining cinematic storytelling, deep tactical combat, and large-scale space warfare into one of the most immersive Star Wars games ever created. Unlike earlier entries that focused primarily on military campaigns and anonymous pilots, X-Wing Alliance introduces a much more personal narrative centered around the Azzameen family, traders and smugglers whose lives gradually become…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →TIE Fighter gets all the spotlight, but it's a spectacular 4-game series. I always felt X-Wing Alliance had the most engaging campaign because of the story and how it's told. As the youngest son eased into the family business, you've just started to fly with a helper bot when you're exposed to rivalries and pirate activity. The family is slowly dragged into the wider conflict and the campaign keeps juggling this so well. Never mind the time logged, because the way to play these days is through…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →One of the best games ever made.. 50 decently long missions of space shooting goodness.. mod it though for modern looks
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I now remember why I stopped playing this game 'back in the day'. They make you run the missions over and over, until you get it just right. there is lots of 'wasted' time redoing several things before you get to the part where they kill you. The game also 'bugs' where when I target something, it will auto set me to 'match speed'. That's cool with tie fighters, but not a capital ship or a buoy. In space its hard to realize when you go from full throttle to stopped but the enemy finds…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The game gets a little buggy from time to time. But the bugs are few and far between. It feels like an actual simulator set during an epic intergalactic space war, rather than Star Wars Squadrons, which is terrible in most respects and feels more like "Community Theater Presents: Generic Space Battle." It has probably the best quick battle mode of any game ever made.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Installing X wing Alliance upgrade makes this feel pretty modern, and the complexity is good without being too complex
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Great game, nostalgic and fun game play
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Best star wars flying sim since tie fighter
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Wonderful game, ground-breaking graphics for its time , shocking UI. The missions do have noticeable difficulty spikes. Some missions (even later in the game) are ludicrously easy, while some earlier missions are virtually impossible.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Doesn't work without a Joystick. Primitive.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →classic epic combat
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →get XWAU mod good very fun
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Apart from the mandatory Joystick requirement, highly recommend it for a 3 dimensional flight simulator. Excellent for dogfighting experience with the stick. For its time, has some highly enjoyable cutscenes in the storymode.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is one of the best star wars game ever made.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Loved the story! Thanks to Star Wars Squadrons, I am giving it another spin. This time with hires mods and VR Support --> https://www.xwaupgrade.com/
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →X-Wing Alliance is fantastic! I went and got a joystick specifically for this game, and I do not regret it! The game is the embodiment of the old Star Wars, and gets the adrenaline running. The only downside is that the missions have to be completed in a certain way, I remember in one level you have to hold a destroyer off from your allies until they jump to hyperspace. I destroyed the destroyer too early, and they jumped, but I didn't win the mission. It is really fun and there are some flying…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →In X-Wing, you played as a green radar blip. In Tie Fighter, you play as a red blip. In Alliance, you play as...blue? Caught in the crossfire between rebels and imperials, your neutral family is forced to choose sides. Fly the Kessel run. Fly YT-1300s/2000s. The CRS Defiance is BACK! Fly with Luke Skywalker, and as Lando on the Death Star II run in the Millenium Falcon. Bothan missions! This is the ultimate SW pilot experience. The backdrop of space is beautifully updated. A few things to fix:…
