The game doesn't work well unless you try a lot of workarounds. And even by applying the mentioned workarounds, it will not work as intended. The user is NOT supposed to patch a game, change its files or test options to make a game playable on modern PCs. I would do this if I bought it as an old CD/DVD or if I got it as an abandonware. The rule is, you buy, you play it. If it's not working, it shouldn't be sold.

CONS: This game does NOT work AS IS (this is even the first ever game not to work on my PC... and I have plenty). PROS: using Jedi Knight Remastered HD Mods, you'lll have the perfect Jedi Knight game running from Steam <3 https://www.moddb.com/mods/jedi-knight-remastered/downloads/jedi-knight-remastered-30

Even more fun than Dark Forces 1. More good old old-school shooter Star Wars gameplay with the occasional lightsaber combat added in. The levels are not as maze-like this time around which is arguably for the better, and you can use some force powers. I HIGHLY recommend using the OpenJKDF2 source port for playing this, it makes the game work properly on modern PCs.

Ignore my play time. This is hands down the best star wars game I have played. Even better than Fallen Order and Survivor (Which are fantastic). A bit Jank, but it is from '97. But a 9/10.

Excellent sequel and improvement to Dark Forces I. Live action cinematics before all levels make this game feel like old star wars. Challenging battles/levels/puzzles having me spam quicksaves just to progress lol. Neat level design with larger and more linear maps. The Steam install was barely playable, but was fun to see the og textures. Wouldn't recommend a playthrough without installing OpenJKDF2 remastered mod pack.

Don't get me wrong, it's good, I like the story and the actors for Kyle Katarn and Jan are great. But the game is in desperate need of a remaster. I didn't grow up with this game and beyond the first couple of levels this is more of a pain to play and really shows it's age. I like to play this in short bursts because I generally like old games, I preferred dark forces' gameplay but I would recommend outcast and academy over DF2 any day.

I feel bad for Kyle Katarn since he got decannonized by Disney, so I will give this game a thumbs up. Good game for its day but not really playable nowadays. After a recent replay I found the levels frustrating and boring. The first-person combat with the force and a lightsaber really works here. The live-action cutscenes still impress me: they are movie quality and better than much of the crap I saw in Episode VIII. And this game came out in 1997 which was TWO years before Episode I!…

This game is old. Don't play for the gameplay; don't play for the graphics. The story is decent. But if you're looking to reminisce on a game you grew up on, or want to experience Star Wars/gaming from the ancient world, this game is a good sample. What's fascinating about this game is that it came out before The Phantom Menace, so there are a few unique features of what Star Wars was like before the Prequels. One such example is that the term "Sith" didn't exist back when this game was…

Good sequel to Dark Forces, and this time you gain force powers while advancing in the game. All this is really rudimentary though, limited by the primitive 3D engine, one of the first ones at the time. Still a nice story, with cheezy but faithful to Star Wars Lore and feel of the old movies, ironacally probably more so than the most recent movies of the saga. Despite its shortcoming in the jedi/sith fights mecanics, still a fun game to play. Recommanded, the game is not too long, which serves…

Remember the time when Star Wars was owned by LucasArts, and Star Wars didn't suck? This is a great game, with a good story and character cast. Kyle Katarn is the kind of classic male lead that "current day" Western AAA-companies SHOULD be having in their games, and that "normal" fans and players actually want. You know, NOT Concord, Forspoken, Redfall, Far Cry 6, Veilguard, SW Outlaws etc. Using Jedi Knight Remastered v3.0 is highly recommended. The upgraded visuals look like an official…

I had some compatibility issues getting this to run on Linux (Ubuntu 22.04). I was able to easily get Jedi Knight to work by installing OpenJKDF2 via flatpack and following the instructions on https://flathub.org/en/apps/org.openjkdf2.OpenJKDF2. Note that OpenJKDF2 isn't the full game by itself, you'll still need to purchase a copy. Works easily with a steam install. Great classic game. My favorite part of Jedi Knight is what it added to the Star Wars lore.

Crashed a few times and corrupted my save a bunch too but it's all worth it. Basically Dark Forces but with light sabers and force powers. The level design is better this time and there's actually real bosses this time. Let's not forget the awesome cut scenes that were like the only real Star Wars media we had until the prequel trilogies. Haven't tried the mod for this game but it worked mostly fine right out of the box for me. Still an official remaster (hopefully fairly priced this…

The fact that this game has some really cool lore and awesome concepts for the franchise that later got built up upon more makes me hate that this game also happens to have some of the worst gameplay I have ever seen in a Star Wars game. The Jerec boss battle alone has given me nightmares for years. Approach only if you're a really big Legends fan or just love Kyle Katarn in general.

I've always been a prequels fan since childhood, but something about this game really feels special to me, and it can't be nostalgia. First off, this is a definite improvement over the original Dark Forces (which was a Doom clone). Now it's 3D, you have a lightsaber and force powers, and the story is more personal. You do not need to play the first game at all to understand this one. The live action cutscenes are pretty cool and really give the game charm. This game really has the closest…

This game is probably older than the average Steam user, so obviously the graphics are dated, but it has some of the best level design for a first person shooter. The guns, lightsaber, and force powers are all fun to use. Overall, the game has aged incredibly well. And the story is really entertaining, especially since the cutscenes are live action. The actor playing Jerec deserves an award of some kind.

Star Wars, for me, is primarily a video game franchise. While I've seen some of the films, my fondest memories are tied to games like Knights of the Old Republic and Dark Forces. When I boot up Jedi Knight: Dark Forces II, nostalgia hits hard with references to characters like Kyle Katarn and the infamous droid 8T88. But is it as good as I remember? I was all about multiplayer on the Zone in the 90s, but finally decided to check out the campaign in 2025. Don't bother with playing the original game as is. It's barely functional on modern OS with widescreen and the graphics are incredibly dated. Grab the remastered mods which run the Opendf2jk (re-implementation of the game) and enjoy run and gunning in that classic level design with high resolution textures and bloom. https://www.moddb.com/mods/jedi-knight-remastered…

Pretty much one of the most epic mercenary tales in the Star Wars era. Contains rougelike Jedi balancing on the light and dark side, evolving through Kyle's embrace of his emotions through out this awesome series. The story continues through Outcast and Academy which finally found a solid playstyle for the franchise aswell! I comeback to this game once a year to just as any SW fans watch A new hope everytime the SW feel is overwhelming.

I was not too big of a fan of Dark Forces 1, the level design was a bit too mazey for me (Lucas Arts fps special), but I might come back to it one day. JKDF2 brings moderate improvements compared to DF1. The story is more engaging, mostly because it has more cutscenes. The addition of lightsabers, Force powers, and more varied areas makes the gameplay more fun. However, just like in DF1, poor direction still occur, sometimes I got lost because I missed a key or didn't realize a button/door looked like part of the environment. However, this game is riddled with small problems that really mount up after a while. It functions fine and runs well. The only working strategy is to used ranged weapons well back from the foe, and where mines need to be passed use force speed so your well past them and receive little damage by the time they detonate, this problem occasionally crops up through the game but level 4 is by far the most problematic.
