The previous couple of games were not great, granted, but this is a top tier JRPG which I will replay multiple times. The combat alone makes the game worth it. D.U.M.A is also so unique and interesting that I would love to see this again in a future SO game. I really loved my time with this game and I've played more JRPG's than I can count. This I…

Need to constantly save and reload to have them active again, and even then, a few battles in and they seem to not be working again. Can't recommend in it's current state. This is something pretty basic that should be something updated YEARS ago. Here I am, a newer player, and I am seeing slotted passives not working on a game released in 2022. Bites too - I was enjoying it to this point, but the fact that something so basic is broken…

unlabelledView post →Sorry, I really wanted to like this. I wish Squeenix would pay attention to this series a little more, instead of funneling all their money to their golden child, Final Fantasy. The slashed budget really shows here. The problem is that the game has very little steam. It takes a lot of its cues from SO2, which is a bad idea, because it's not as good or as interesting. The story is basic and the characters are colorful enough, but the human element that it needs to connect with the player is…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Finally got around to playing the newest Star Ocean, The Divine Force. It's stupid easy. But that's on me for maxing out Laeticia's "Determined Princess" passive skill. It doubles the XP for the whole party, & I somehow got to level 48 in just 8 hours. I've only done TWO SITTINGS! I'm steamrolling!
unlabelledView post →I have tried on at least 4 separate occasions to play through this game, and I can't do it. The only character I think I like is Nina, but there's 4 others I can't seem to make it to, area traversal IS fun but not revolutionary, it's fun to get to the places you need to go but not to be there, the combat find its end loop fairly quickly, yes within 17 hours you can unlock the final skill in the skills tree, which already wasn't much to amount to. There may be more later in the game. Maybe…

unlabelledView post →The combat in this game is not Star Ocean combat. Just based on that alone, I already dislike the game. For every one thing that I enjoy; the characters, the JP voice actors, Es'owa, the towns/castles, the absolutely beautiful sky of Aster IV, the music, etc, there is two to three other things that are not just bad, but often times terrible. For example; the characters themselves are better than I expected, but the script of the story is bad to outright cringe and awful, or has been done…

unlabelledView post →Star Ocean: The Divine Force is one of those games I’m probably always going to approach with bias — and I’m completely fine admitting that. I’ve been a loyal Star Ocean: Till the End of Time fan since the PS2 era. That entry cemented the franchise for me, and ever since then, anything with the Star Ocean name attached immediately has my attention. The blend of sci-fi exploration, RPG progression, anime-inspired storytelling, and spacefaring adventure is basically my comfort zone. The Divine…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Sadly, can't recommend this one. - Dull story, feels more like an initial draft (and is mostly contained in the last 30% of the game). While there are a few interesting ideas none of those are really explored, and the execution is just bad. The main antagonist doesn't make any sense and is very lacking in charisma ; the same goes for his lackeys. - The main characters are not terrible per se (i would even say that overall they are actually relatively likable), but since barely anything ever…

unlabelledView post →Okay, yeah, to make Star Ocean: The Divine Force run good on PC, after you load it up the first time, turn 'recompile shaders' ON. Dunno why you need to do this extra step despite the first-load compile, but you do. And it's like night and day for performance.
unlabelledView post →Star Ocean. A niche JRPG series. Even more niche than "Tales of...". So niche that The Divine Force is only its sixth mainline entry. Unfortunately, it is also an entry that is clearly lower budget, with big ideas and very uneven execution. And yes, the budget shows, especially in the character models. They have a plasticky look, maybe two to five movement animations, and faces that barely move. It would not be a problem if everything were pixel art like Star Ocean 1 and 2, but here it…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Gameplay's really fun!!... sadly the story gets more and more cringe-inducing as it progresses towards its finale. I still recommend it, as there are way worse games with overwhelmingly positive scores out there and this one doesn't deserve to be in the negative. It's a 'mostly positive' kinda gaame, to me; doesn't deserve its reputation, not one bit. Just go into this one expecting to roll your eyes at the thematic train-wreck and maybe you'd get some kicks out of it like you would when…

unlabelledView post →STAR OCEAN THE DIVINE FORCE is, in my opinion, a very good game. Therefore, I don't fully understand why so many reviews are negative. I don't think the game itself is as bad as the reviews describe it. Primarily, it's an action game focused on story and exploration, and partially on combat, as combat is a key element of exploration. The combat system, story, and characters are decent in my opinion. Of course, I'm fully aware that it's not a newer title; I'd classify it as an older one, but…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →With all due respect to the people that worked in the game, I'm sad to say that this game is very generic and boring. The main three factors that make me not recommend this are these: ☠️ The story is incredibly insipid. You crash-land on a planet and you meet your first two companions that will take you to the longest series of menial tasks you could imagine. You'll have to go to "Pharmacy A" and then to "Pharmacy B" then back to A, then you go to your pod for spare parts, back to A, then go…

As a result most did not give me any impression of the actual game and I kinda went in blind on this one. I have completed 1 play through as well. I had a good time with this one! I bought it on sale. The last Star Ocean I played was The Last Hope. My computer had no trouble running this. Never had any bugs, crashes or frame drops to speak of. positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →What a great game! Since I was a kid, I’ve wanted to play the Star Ocean series, but something always got in the way of me getting started. I’ve been playing them chronologically: SO4, SO1R, SO2R, SO5, and now SO6, and I’ve loved them all. Each was such a unique experience. I realized that a few quirks labeled as "bad" or "annoying" were just part of the strangeness of space to me. This game is all about perspective, and I advise others not to let people impose their opinions. Next up will be…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Just so very boring. Sprinting and flying over fields that are far too large and with absolutely nothing of interest in them. It's a wrestle to get the game to intuit who you want to attack at a given time. You can have your thumstick glued to one guy right next to you and the game will think you maybe wanted to take an empty swipe at some bozo 50 meters away. No real fun to be found here, just occasional bouts of irritation.

unlabelledView post →I have enjoyed this game a lot. Something about flying in the air at will in and out of combat made it really fun. Characters were quite neat and the story was nice. A fun entry in star ocean series that I've enjoyed more than SO4 but less than SO2 Moment to moment was just very enjoyable to me more than anything. One con is that at the start your action gauge for fights is very short, but soon after you unlock "jetpack" and start zipping around and flanking enemies and it increases your gauge.…

unlabelledView post →Its the typical "Advanced people with advanced technology meats primitive people with magic. Shenanagans happen." However, as far as gameplay is concerned, there is no difference between the two. Its just lazy. As a Star Ocean game, you already know what to expect; people with advanced technology find themselvs in need of help from primitive people in order to do...something for some reason. Sure, fine. Then you play this game and spend all but the last maybe 1 hour (being generous) on one…

Even simple things like changing a skill to the number 3 is not allowed. It's like they just randomized the whole keyboard layout since it's all nonsense never seen before in any other game. The graphics are also weird and blurry and plays like the game was made in 2005 and not designed to run on present day hardware. I'll revisit this game if they ever make a PC version cuz this…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Story (7/10) It's good. Some references to older games are there. You can choose between two main charaacters and by doing so, there are minor differences. The group splits up a few times where you experience the story with the main character you choose at the beginning. I do not like this gimmick. Graphics (6/10) Battle animations look flashy. Environment (outside of citys) look a bit bland and looks out of focus (in the sense of not sharp). It feels like there are only a few character…

Beautiful visuals, music, voice acting etc. Story has a grand sci-fi theme fluid realtime combat Negatives: I thought the game loop was just not super engaging. Most battles and fights in general through out the game were underwhelming did not make good use of all the available skills and mechanics. Crafting was not that interesting The mini-game seemed boring. In the end I think…

But the story is bad, the characters are uninteresting and the game worlds seems hollow and some of the assets look generic.
