You will fight giant enemies that you can't really "damage" so you need to break their stun meter. The problem? They're are literal meat sponges that tank through all your attacks. At first this isn't an issue. It starts with the intro boss called the Fomorian and it teaches you how to dodge the "red" attacks and there's a sound indicator as well. So what's the problem you ask? The problem arises when…

unlabelledView post →This game has a good foundation but man are the gimmicks annoying. There's a strange emphasis on platforming when the jumping doesn't feel good. Taking hits from failing platforming is way too high and the character only has one jump height. Many hazards in the levels would be fun if the game was not designed like this, but as it is now I wish the jumping gimmicks were removed and the game was just straight combat rooms. The character is responsive but only having one jump height feels worse…

unlabelledView post →The pixel art is nice, but that's about it. The combat lacks a lot of weight, enemies are really boring to fight and heavier enemies are just spongey, leading to really boring, prolonged fights of just hit hit dash, repeat. The writing is really bad, it kind of feels like a teenager wrote this, and the voice acting isn't great either. Honestly I would have been able to overlook the bad story and voice acting, but the combat isn't engaging enough for me to do that. Not sure what else to say…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Game was looking really fun. Lots of replayability. Fun combat and platforming. BUTTT...... After finishing the second quest and receiving my rank for the quest it restarted the quest at the start. I figured no big deal maybe I hit the wrong button or something... Then i went back to the hub area to select the 3rd quest, only to find that the 3rd quest wasnt unlocked and the 2nd quest had no rank/progress. Games fun but to lose progress 30 minutes into it feels bad. Refunding for now Devs fix…

There are technical issues with stuff like platforming collision and audio balancing is jank in places but the game is overall a hidden gem!
unlabelledView post →Somewhat rewriting my review, because now, I've beaten the game! Please don't take my play time as how long it will take you to play it, I got stuck a few places and grinded souls in other places lol. Here's an updated look at the game and what I liked and thought needed improvement, as someone who REALLY likes this game! PROS - Beautiful pixel art. I know everyone says that, but I think very few people really understand the world that goes into making the art and animation for a game like…

unlabelledView post →This game is reaaally fun. The combat is 100% the best part. It feels super smooth and responsive, and once you start getting the hang of juggling combos, it gets really satisfying. It definitely achieves the 2D Devil May Cry feel it’s going for. The pixel art is also really nice. Animations are clean, effects look great, and everything has a good amount of impact. Music is solid too, fits the action and setting really well. Story-wise it’s pretty simple, but it works. I actually bought…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Mediocre at best. Story is almost nonexistent and even then it's an unfinished joke with no real ending. Gameplay is repetitive, annoying and boring. The only good parts are visual style (for some) and little to none bugs.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The trailer is misleading. It doesn't showcase fighting anything that completely overrides your attack and runs through you to hit you no matter what, or how the game spawns them just offset enough to where you often get slammed into even if your mid-dodge because the larger enemies stagger their charge attack. In fact just about every enemy has a massively long bar that must be whittled down for an extended period of time before any sort of air juggling becomes possible unlike what the trailer…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I really want to love this game, but an hour in, I find myself having far more frustration than fun. I haven't even gotten to the first boss because the levels are so long with very infrequent checkpoints and absolutely zero progress saved between deaths. There's no way to heal between combat encounters that range between punishing and annoying. Every enemy, even the lowliest trash mob, requires several combos to defeat, leading everything to feel spongy. The game expects perfection, even…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →SoulQuest is all about the combat. It has a handful of enemies with lots of health for you to combo, juggle, and bully to death over and over. The levels are simple with a few secrets here and there and some light platforming that goes by fast. The pixel art is pretty, the animation darling, and the music fun (if a bit repetitive by the end). I recommend this game on the strength of its central pillar — combat is fast, expressive, and gets better all the time — and the charm of its visuals.…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A really fun game with excellent gameplay. Everything feels great—from the feedback and combos to the music—EVERYTHING. The visuals are just as impressive; the pixel art is absolutely beautiful. I highly recommend it.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →#PixelArt games started to up their game in recent years. The animation fluidity and level of detail are something else. unlabelledView post →Awesome pixel art, great music! I really liked the voice acting too. There is a nice amount of combos to master. Is a really nice game overall!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →SoulQuest is a blast, the combat is absolutely the best part. It feels super smooth and responsive. Stop wasting time reading reviews and just get to hacking and slashing!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I love knowing that just by TALKING about cool new games that fly under the radar that people who follow me will learn about them Part of the reason I also keep yapping about SoulQuest since that was also a 2026 game nobody seemed to have noticed the release of that I think kicks ass 😎
unlabelledView post →also learned why the text is worded differently in some places than the voice lines in SoulQuest it's because the game was developed by an Argentinean developer so likely the text translation to English was worded differently then the voice script version of that same dialogue
unlabelledView post →This game unfortunately lacked the polish tom justify the price tag, even on 20% off sale. The combat was VERY satisfying, with incredible tight controls, fun combos and fast paced fighting game feel. The rest of the level designs, translation, and ESPECIALLY the platform simply fell flat. All complete with misrepresented tool tips and wrong button icons. I would recommend this game (and would have kept instead of returned it) for $5USD or less
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →nice pixel graphics and animations I give this game an 8/10
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Edit: i don't dislike this game enough to not recommend it, but i find it very frustrating in general and if steam had neutral reviews that is what i would make this review. Also a warning *the game isn't finished*, it ends on a cliffhanger and makes it look like there's a true ending, but there isn't one, we're left waiting for an update or a sequel. SoulQuest is a platformer CAG where you can stay in the air forever, have to platform around using some of your combo tools, and can kill…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →okay so I finally played SoulQuest the full game literally JUST dropped today May 1st!! and I am actually screaming. 💀 Bro, you play as Alys and she is such a queen?? Her husband gets taken by the gods and she basically just says "not today" and goes on a full-on rampage against Morrigan, the Goddess of Death. It's like Celtic mythology meets Devil May Cry and I’m obsessed. The Good Stuff (aka why you need this): • The COMBOS: You can literally juggle enemies in the air forever. It feels so…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →6/10. I was sitting on a hesitant 7/10, but the ending was deeply unsatisfying. It's got pretty good art direction, and it scratches some of the itches of a 2D character action game like Devil May Cry, but there were a lot of *little* things that I found unappealing. The boss fights (and most mid sized mooks) all have a stagger gauge before you can combo them, which is fine, but the stagger gauge takes a long while to empty and refills very fast so you spend most of the hard fights abusing…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →So update: Carter's Quest is planned to have it's Act 2 update this year and I don't wanna start the streams of that game until then to avoid finishing Act 1 before Act 2 drops. Just so everyone is aware since I mentioned streaming that game in the near future at the end of SoulQuest
unlabelledView post →SoulQuest is basically Celtic May Cry borrowing a ton of DMC's mechanics and adapting them whole sale into a 2D game. Obviously Freedom Planet 1 and 2 are very much "Diet Sonic" games Pseudoregalia is the Metroid 64 we never got and there's a TON of Pokelikes out there
unlabelledView post →It's a nice little game, worth spending an afternoon or two to finish it. I won't talk about its issues because a lot of other reviews already go over them in detail, instead I'll focus on the good: the combat. Thankfully, there's a lot of it too. The first encounters can be beaten by just mashing buttons, but they quickly evolve and demand you to come up with proper strategies to beat them. Very often, the most viable strategy is to juggle the enemies in the air until their hp is low enough to…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Combat is good, the pixel art is great but man the audio balancing is atrocious, it sounds like all the voice actors just recorded their lines on Audacity in their bedroom, clicked export and it was put in the game without any further editing

unlabelledView post →This game is pretty decent! I would recommend it, but it's definitely not without flaws. The core gameplay is good, the controls feel responsive, the voice acting is suprisingly good. Here's a short list of minor complaints, but it looks like the developer is actively patching the game shortly after release which is a good sign! Some of these might be taken care of by the time anyone reads this. - Text boxes expanding to fit text. - Dialogue audio playing for the wrong text box. - Attack…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I was really looking forward to this game. The actual move styles are fun and the combos you can pull off are quite satisfying. All in all, the combat controls for the player character are great. There are 2 things that stand out to make this fantastic experience into a huge bother: the enemies and the platforming. Breaking these down: Enemies: I don't know if this is what it's called, but let's say that when an enemy attacks, there's a "hitbox." What I mean by hitbox is the area that…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Experiencing more stress than enjoyment so far, and in the 4th area/chapter/mission. Playing on Medium difficulty. Maybe this game/difficulty is too hard for my brain lol. Whereas the game can be fun, combat seems to heavily rely on memorizing various combos. That or getting lucky with button mashing. Not a fan of having performance(s) graded like we are in school. Guess this promotes running the Chapters over and over as we obtain upgrades and memorize the combos. None of these levels are so…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Great game, an incredible take on translating hack & slash games like DMC into 2D. Standout features: - Wide variety of combos, including canceling, juggling, and other mechanics that add depth - Stylish and very satisfying combat - Incredible music - Good enemy variety - Strong boss fights - Stable and bug-free, with consistently smooth FPS (at least I didn’t encounter any issues) - Strong visual effects Good aspects: - Beautiful, polished aesthetic with super fluid animations (I’m not…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →For now I played up to the title and a bit more. The game seems fun! Up to now it has shown great hackin', great slashin' , an interesting story and great voice acting. Seems like the progression will be good, the combat is really fun and seems to get better as you unlock movements and abilities. Looking forward to the first boss!

unlabelledView post →I wish I could give this a Mixed review instead of negative, as there is a great game in here. However it has a few key flaws which hold it back from me recommending it. As of writing this I've got up to the second boss. One of the main things is I think that the dodge needs a few more i-frames, and enemy hurt boxes should start a bit later in the animation. It very frequently feels like you get clipped by the wind up of an attack, or at the end of your dodge. Also, I feel like heavy enemies…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The gods didn’t expect to face the Goddess of War herself! The game is fun until its game design starts suffocating you. The art style and music are good. The story is okay and fully voiced. Combat is fun and actually pushes you to use your abilities. Platforming is super easy and chill. But right now (before any updates), some game design choices will probably make a lot of people drop the game. What can I say when the developers literally had to add an option to remove…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I do very much enjoy this game. Combat is pretty fluid and fun, I like the voice acting and the music, and I love the pixel art. I do wish there were more checkpoints however. I dislike having to start all the way from the beginning of a level. Edit: I also wish there were more ways to heal.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I'll update this review as I get further into the game or finish it. Right away I've seen a number of things I liked about the game and a handful of things that could be tweaked or could've been rethought. I do like the combat's comboing with what moves I have unlocked. Some are way more important that others though. I noticed that the triple light into heavy attack shreds the stun gauge mechanic on a number of enemies. Attacks don't have much weight to them but this works out for the…
