New update is awful, although I applaud the devs for trying something new and allowing the old mode to still be played, they have stated the old mode is not going to be worked on anymore the new one is the focus and its terrible. All the building aspect is near enough gone and a junk time limit is forced. Time limits are just a poor devs arbitrary way of enforcing balancing when they dont have the skill to do so , and a player should never be paying money to be told how long they are allowed…

I played the entire game in ten hours. If I could go back in time, I wouldn't spend money on it. I hoped it would be a more complex version of the Kingdom series of games, since I love strategy builders. But Sons of Valhalla is more of a 2D action arcade game. The building, command, and strategy aspects of the game are repetitious, and you can beat each level with the same strategy of catapults protected by you and a shield wall. On top of that, the campaign ending is a cliff hanger, setting up…

Recommended if you've got this game for less than 5€/5$. But hence the base price is 20€!! (as of writing this review) i do not recommend for that price. The base premise of the game has so much potential, but sadly devs couldn't tap this goldmine. It's literally just slightly advanced version of an old flash-game. And as it's priced at ridiculous 20€ i will review it as such: Current version is very lazy mutation of kingdom and bad north. Sounds great, and is almost great but nope. And…

I hate to base my opinion of one game on my experience with another, but the only reason I got this game is that it looks like it takes a lot of inspiration from the Kingdom series. The short way to describe this game to me would be - Kingdom, but a MOBA instead of a Tower Defence game. A one-dimentional MOBA is what Sons Of Valhalla feels like for the most part. You walk back and forth around in your camp, gather supplies, prepare your army and then attack and conquer the enemy bases one by…

I beat this game on the hardest difficulty possible, not having ever played it before. It took me a little over 11 hours. Quite frankly, I saw this game on Summer Games Fest, it looked exactly like what I wanted the Kingdom games to be. Especially after seeing how far Kingdom: Two Crowns went. A Kingdom style game where you get to fight yourself and not only that, but also over the course of a full campaign. That's what I was hoping for, like a lot of other people... And like all those other…

Do you know when you sometimes wish you could make a neutral review on steam? Well, this game warrants that for me as well. It is nothing ground breaking and very repetitive, the game loop is just not *that* fun. But you *can* enjoy it. The price for the content is too steep for me, since I was finished in short under 6 hours and they want 20 bucks for it, yikes. Only to get mildly entertained... Thumbs down for me because of that.

Steam Deck User This games is labelled as a strategy game, but its really more like an Action RPG; I was expecting much more in terms of strategy options compared to its previous tittles such as kingdom. Pros: *Beautiful pixel art scenery with unique character sprites. Ranking 3/3 *Background music is decent. Ranking 2/3 *It nails offensive military strategy. Ranking 3/3 *Storyline is decent with a clear goal set in mind. Rescue the damsel in distress while fighting odd characters along the…

Finished this game already — the content is very little. Only 3 stages, and there’s nothing new after that. Compared to the price, it’s really not worth it. No New Game+ either. The game feels kind of like Kingdom, but with far less content. In comparison, I can’t recommend buying it unless it’s at least 50% off. Looks good on the outside, but inside there’s almost nothing. i rated around 3/5

The game is pretty fun. Like many others have said, it's very similar to Kingdoms, just with more player focused interactions in terms of being able to attack. However, the game is WAAAAAAAAY too small to be at its price and it won't be gaining anymore attention from the devs. Once you get at a certain point in endless, you plateau early on and can basically stop playing because your troops will win it for you (yes endless does actually end at a certain point). I finished the game pretty…

Unfortunately, Sometimes the wrong kind of people turn up first to play a game and make stupid and reckless suggestions which corrupt the gameplay dynamic. Well done you "gamers" who wouldn't know gameplay if it bit them on the arse. Devs - Your only getting a thumbs up (and going by the ratings, you could use it)because you only half listening to those "gamers" and kept the original idea under the beta branch. Gameplay is unbalanced and boring IMHO, all you need to do is just wait to gather enough resources and then send all your units. So most of time you will just wait to rectruit troops and that's all. The graphic and settings are quite nice, but that's not enough to give a positive review. Also the story is a bit weird. It portrays the Vikings as warriors without negative characteristics, while making the English into first-rate bad guys who just deserve to be plundered.

Just like your father, this game is severely troubled, but ultimately okay. And since you don't choose your family, but you can choose your video games, I suggest getting it on discount. There is some fun there, but you have to be ready. Breakdown: This versus Kingdom Comparison with the obvious inspiration is inevitable. First off, Kingdom's design is elegant, minimalistic, and it knows what it wants to achieve. It has clear limitations. SoV tries to do more in some aspects, without having a…

I definitely think a review rating of "mixed" is accurate. It's pretty, it's short and the combat can be quite clunky. Not to mention (spoiler): The story ends on a cliffhanger, and with how this game was received it doesn't fill me with confidence that we will get a proper ending. It left me feeling a bit empty. Also, besides the fact that you build bases and the 2d side-on with water in the front, it doesn't really feel like the Kingdom series.

Nice visuals, story is okay, nothing deep, nothing that keeps you playing. Gameplay is ok for the first hour, then it is quiet repetitive. There are five stages, each following the same scheme: a couple of enemy bases to conquer. No new strategies required, no new elements except some perks you can collect. You just repeat the same thing over and over again. It's just grinding.

This is one of those "I wish I could give it a neutral rating" games. I'm grudgingly giving it a thumbs up since I feel like I did get my money's worth out of it (I bought it on sale.) The graphics are really nice if you like pixel art. It's not even pretending not to steal Kingdom's presentation style, which is fine by me! The gameplay is different than Kingdom's in various ways, but also less interesting in various ways. Combat is the main activity, and upgrading buildings and training…

Kingdom Two Crowns was an amazing game. It had a mesmerizing atmosphere which was just really nice to be immersed in. I expected the same vibe and experience from sons of valhalla, but it just wasn't. There was no magic or lure to it. They could have done so much with the norse mythology, but this was underwhelming. The story was lame, and the gameplay was too easy. This was also a super short game compared to the kingdom two crowns. I finished the whole game in less than 9 hours.

Sons of Valhalla is a fun Metroidvania game is a fun one, and I definitely had some fun. The plot is fairly simple. The main character has to get his wife back, and pursues things, even after he died. The voice actors are great and did a good job bringing people to life. Combat is fun and easy, to master, and the system building bases, hiring mercenaries and kill the enemies. Side scrolling is quite nice and not necessarily bad. Just that it is short enough that it still is quite fun. The…

Not the worst game in the world, but ridiculously overpriced. This is a fairly brief and grindy game. I played on hard difficulty, and completing it took me just over 12 hours. There are 6 levels in the main campaign, and a bonus stealth mission. This game is quite easy as long as you remember to upgrade your soldiers and your character. Enemies are rarely a serious threat to you, including the bosses. Every level follows the same pattern: you start at the left side of the map, and you have…

Overall, the game is playable, the bugs aren't too bad (very few), and the game is what it says it is: a base building action roguelite. Buuuuut.... This game is shallow. There's 5 basic levels and you rinse/repeat the same strategem to defeat each level. Sons of Valhalla is an ambitious indie title that tries to merge the immediacy of side-scrolling combat with the depth of base building and strategy, all wrapped in a striking Viking setting. It took me a little over 5 hours to beat, and I highly enjoyed the gameplay loop. I didn't mind the 75 wave scenario (became a bit of a joke after doing the same thing over and over) and the escape scenario was ok. The "base building" element is just as deep as the effort put in to the bosses. A mud puddle. upgrading all your resource buildings is pointless, or building multiples of them. Good example how to take simple and enjoyable formula from Kingdom series and turn it into clumsy, unnecessarily complicated and just ugly game. The art style is not even meh, it's pathetically weak. Story and voices are not worth mentioning. The optimization is arguably the most frustrating aspect of SoV.
