This game has a lot to like about it. I love the artwork, the world and story, big fan of auto battlers with the ability to influence using spells. But there are a lot of simple mechanics that lead to less strategy, and battles are often so one sided that even if you have two large armies fighting, because one has a huge powerhouse, you lose if your spells aren't a direct counter. But my biggest complaint by FAR has to be the unlock system for new classes and vocations. I do not want to have…

My impressions piece on Songs of Silence is up on PC Gamer now! It's a *really* interesting game. Fast-paced 4X with battles that last under a minute, both strategic and tactical options framed as cards to be played, gorgeous art & a Hitoshi Sakimoto soundtrack. www.pcgamer.com/games/strate...

Honestly, this game is beautiful, but just not fun. The battles are shallow, the strategy doesn't amount to that much more than "run into battle for XP and gold," and even though the worldbuilding is interesting, the story isn't deep enough to be compelling. The art direction of this game is SO fabulous, and creative, but it would've been better served by a gorgeous artbook, or graphic novel, or something similar. This is amazing art on a boring game.

This game is a lot like old school Heros of Might and Magic, but the combat is auto-battler style, which for me is a huge bonus. When I used to play HOMM, I would micro-manage my combat early on. This would make me agonize over losing just a few units and sometimes I would reload and try to replay the fight. In this game the auto-battler takes all but the big picture decisions out of your hand and THIS IS HOW A REAL GENERAL WOULD FEEL IN BATTLE. You train your units and position them and hope…

This weekend I've been poking around at Songs Of Silence. Still not played enough to come to any final conclusions, but I'm enjoying it so far! It feels like a fantasy 4X game for busy people or genre newcomers. Fast real-time auto-battes, small armies, quick turns www.youtube.com/watch?v=IwtZ...

The art is nice, the mechanis work well, the story is decent. Overall a decent-good game, but I can't quite recommend it nor dis-recommend. The game became very repetitive by mid game with the story becoming predicatble. Not bad, not good, but somewhere between decent and good, not a game I need to play twice. Because there is no neutral button on Steam I give it a thumbs up.

One of the games that took the wrong exit too many times. Great ideas, visuals, concepts and ideas that just dont quite come together. My gripes are: - the armies are small and unimpactful - due to limited army sizes, no real army compositions can be had. Cavalry leader needs cavalry units, priest leader needs melee and magic units. No variety. - pre-combat you get almost no info of the outcome and cant easily roll back your movements. This leads to alot of trial and error and save/loading…

Don't let prejudice turn you away from this game. Regretably, I read some of the reviews some time ago and decided to stay away from the game assuming it would not be as fun as I imagined. I read it was an auto battler and thought that was nonsensical in a supposed strategy game. In my prejudice, I wasn't a fan of the card aspect of it initially either, but it seemed interesting nonetheless. I was wrong. Thankfully. The game is actually great, the art direction of it is gorgeous and the…

Combat mechanics very unclear, and not at all intuitive. Not real control of units and positioning. Regardless of your positioning, watch your calvary run directly into the anti calvary lines and get slaughtered.

I want to like this game, I really do. The art is amazing, the story is good, the voice overs are great. But the gameplay just isn't there. Recruiting armies and moving about the map takes up too much time to engage in any meaningful tactics. You just build as many of the most expensive/most powerful unit, preferably one that gets boosted by your general and you just steamroll the enemy. There is no other tactic. That's it. And it's fun for a bit to discover the different generals/heroes and…

I get why some people have posted negative reviews, but the mixed to mostly positive is just not representative of the actual game. As others have said, the combat is very simple and lacks the depth of genre predecessors like Heroes of Might & Magic, the Total War series, or even simpler titles like Civ 5 or Endless Legend. If you're after a game where you unleash your tactical decision making on complex maneuvers, this probably won't scratch your itch. Where the game does succeed is on the…

Heroes of Might and magic. Without skill trees. Or loot/inventory. Or city building. Or tactics. Hero has units. Hero gets one new "card" per level, which can either be for the one building slot available in each city, the overworld army, or the auto-battle map. And... that's about it. I'm not sure I could even recommend this at $10.

The game is fun but it has a few flaws. My opinion is based on campaign playthrough, without DLCs. I couldn't finish the game due to crashes. I like the artstyle, world building ideas and playable races. It is visually vibrant and interesting. Resource system and town management are easy to understand. UI is clear. There are some issues, that if addressed, may bump this game up a Tier: - Some recruitment cards that spawn units show only cost, not the stats. I'd like to be corrected here, if…

Great game. It's like a simplified/arcade version of 4X titles like Civilization and Total War. It was very easy to pick up and learn. It got review-bombed when released because the price was a bit high for what it was - which was fair criticism. The devs listened however, reduced the price, and it now can be picked up for £12 when on sale - which is fantastic value! The campaign is around 15 hours long, and there's only a little bit of extra content beyond that. I felt the campaign was well…

I tried to like this game I really did but this game did not click with me and just felt super unintuitive. I've played a lot of strategy games of different flavours and this game feels to have conflicting combat styles. I played on balanced mode but I would traditionally play games on the harder difficulties, most of the defending armies and garrisons I was fighting were had more units than my army could field and to deal with the final settlement of the 1st mission I had to sacrifice an…

The game look nice and the strategy layer is quite engaging but the battle feel like old mobile or web game. All the unit just slides around like hockey puck and even the larger cav sometime just cant attack as it get push around by tiny wolfs. Devs asked for reviews, so here is mine. I got the game for free on Epic, liked it so much that I bought it on Steam together with the Celestial Church DLC. Had a great time playing again. The only thing I'd like to see changed is the way stuff is unlocked. Having played the campaign a second time, I really can't be bothered to do it a third just to unlock all characters and stuff. Also, I've got quite a few people I'd like to play this with, who however just aren't into single-player campaigns…

very close to being good. The mechanics do not fit tightly together and are extremely limited in customization. the map is small and the direction is too hand holdy. Song of Silence was a surprise for me, I really expected too much focus on the artwork and nothing in the gameplay but I was wrong. It is basically a light Total War game, I don't think you could describe it better than this. Of course the start is a bit slow because you are slowly introduced to the game mechanics and gameplay but it did not feel slow to me, 4X games are often slow burns, it is repetitive in the first 2-3 hours then it got better with new factions and units and plenty of stuff…

This game freaking rocks! It's a really streamlined 4X with VERY distinct factions, and an autobattle system that's engaging and an awesome way to feel more attached to your armies. I love all the spells you can unlock and upgrade, and how you're forced to choose between army upgrades or building upgrades. On top of everything the game is just astoundingly beautiful.

The ultimate 4x Autobattler experience to enjoy after a long day at work. Very satisfying gameplay. What will decide this game's longevity is the number of different setups the player will be able to design in skirmish mode. Fingers crossed for potential setup options in the future - for example maybe having a crusade faction showing up after x number of turns or factions making alliances when losing. Additional suggestion would be to allow alternative UI controls - moving from the drag and…

Pretty disappointed. I finally got around to playing this on Xbox (bought it awhile back). I played through the campaign and it was fun. No real issues. Then I noticed none of the expansions were on Xbox. So I bought it on steam. That’s where the issues started. I’ve ran into bug after bug today. From being attacked from the same army three straight times while the game slowed to a crawl. To having battles where I can’t use cards, they are all just greyed out and don’t recharge. No this isn't a deep strategy game... It's an autobattler and I knew that buying it so it's odd to me people are leaving negative reviews trashing the strategy as if they expected Starcraft or a Total War game. It's okay. Get it for like $1 on Humble Bundle. Do not pay full price for it. It's on the cusp of being good, but the real time auto battler portion is weird, janky, and kind of broken. It suffers from two issues that were also infuriating in Total War Warhammer, which ruin the tactical element of the game almost entirely. First, similar to TW, there are instances where units simply don't take or deal damage. I think this is due to armor vs attack defeating the attack and causing no…

I really wanted to like this, but after 40 minutes of watching the most tedious autobattles I've ever seen play out, only occasionally punctuated by incredibly low-impact abilities on long cooldowns, I realized there was nothing to look forward to. Good looking game, but the music and voiceovers are underwhelming, and the combat itself is very bland. I went into this expecting an autobattler, but I've never played one with less going on in combat than this game.

Playing through the campaign currently and I'm really enjoying it. The soundtrack and art are top notch, including some solid voice actors. The HOMM pedigree is clear but doesn't overwhelm the game's unique identity. The auto-battling combat is cleverly done, and can be quite fun. The game consistently looks fantastic in motion and in screenshots. That said, the gameplay did not fully come together for me in the same way. Sort of like Heroes of Might and Magic, but battles are real time instead of turn based and it sort of auto battles, but you have abilities that you can play to affect the battle. buff, debuff, damage, reposition etc. The story is alright, the acting is good, the writing is good. I had a great time with the base game, haven't bought or played the DLC yet at 20 hours.
