Blood Cultures is one of my favorite bands, and the use of their music in this game is superb. If you liked the control scheme from the Tony Hawk games, and enjoy good music, then I highly recommend this game. Edit: I played the game to completion, and it was a blast! I will be doing another couple of play throughs to get all of the collectables. Some of the instrumentals and mixes of…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I recommend this game highly, especially for a first time playthrough. There's really only one feature I wish was in this game. After you complete the Epilogue and the campaign. I wish for a free skate mode where you can just free room between different levels, rather than play the whole game through again. I'm sure its a easy fix that can be put in a patch after launch. Other than that, I'd call it a 9.5/10

When I was young, I usually got sub-merged in these worlds. Experiencing it for what they are. As I grew older, I started forming likes and dislikes. Games became more calculated. It became what I wanted. Rather than what they are. I found skate story way back in 2020 through a twitter clip. I knew at that moment, I wanted to play…

unlabelledView post →This game is a product of labour of love and care. It is a short but powerful experience, it's packed with some of the prettiest visuals I've played in a game in so long, the soundtrack is phenomenal and the gameplay is just so fun, it's got a few core mechanics that work so well together. And for 20 USD? hell yeah. I absolutely love high quality games under 8-10 hours that scratch this itch I always have. It's also got tons of fun references to all sorts of different media, albums, shows,…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's a brilliant game. I love the shatter fx, the bouncy cam, the music, and how realistic the skating feels. The story is weird and vague enough to be a snippet out of one of William Burroughs books. The only thing that could improve it is a free skate mode, but if it never gets one, it wouldn't retract from it's greatness. It is Skate 'Story' after all.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The first hub in this game is a lyceum, but it never asks you to think. It asks you to feel. It takes the conglomeration of sensory experience that only videogames are capable of providing, in harmonising sight, sound and touch, to provide a sort of rare, surreal immersion you won't feel anywhere else.

unlabelledView post →Having finished it, Skate Story is beautiful in every regard and it makes me wish that we didn't live in a world in which art so often needs to financially justify itself. It's stylish as hell, yes, but it's also such an intimate look at (to my perception) how we pull through to do/make worthwhile things in a world that doesn't provide any inherent meaning to us.

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I don't leave reviews. Really. Like ever. I won't make this long because it just boils down to passion + vision is the cornerstone of what this game is. I personally have skated for over 10 years and I can tell this was made by someone who understands skateboarding and its culture which means a lot in today's "to seem rather than to be" era That's just the initial appeal. Then the atmosphere and aesthetics drag you in complete. Top it off with a great and understandable story and you never…

Tricks are no more involved than just repeating L1+B, L2+B, R1+B, R2+B, L2+R1+B repeatedly until you stomp the board to cash in. There are no pipes, no grabs. There are grinds but nothing more than that. Hub areas involve collecting letters and spamming tricks. The game is not doing anything innovative mechanically. The plot and dialog with NPC's is so…

unlabelledView post →Skate Story is an aggressively okay video game that has brief moments that are so emotionally overwhelming that you just kinda wanna go gaaaaaaaaah and shoot tears out of your eye sockets and wave your stumpy arms around like a little anime character. I'm not exactly sure what to make of that to be honest. I guess I'd recommend it for people who play enough video games to wanna check one out for spectacular bits spread out inside a dazzling but otherwise a somewhat underwhelming affair. The…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Skate Story has you grinding through several layers of Hell on a journey to eat the Moon. Boasting surreal visuals, a warm, lush, synth-heavy soundtrack that is one of my favorites of the year, and tight controls with a low skill floor, it's quite an interesting game. Despite running into a couple of bugs and the lack of a Chapter Select, it's really a must-play in my opinion. Seems like the delays were worth it!

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →an excellent endcap for my 2025. feels good to be a demon made of pain and glass. the one critique i would give to mr. sam eng is to have the option to be kicked back to the level select in the post-game for free skating
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Trying out some Next Fest demos, and the first one was Skate Story! This game jumps out in trailers due to the visuals, and I'm happy to say it's a blast to play. Zooming through the levels is a thrill, and even the most basic tricks feel impactful to land. Looking forward to the full release.
unlabelledView post →When the game is good, it's really bloody amazing. However, I do feel like the game is slightly incomplete in it's current form. There's a lack of chapter select, meaning you need to replay the whole game if you want to return to a specific sequence. The game is also incredibly easy on default settings. You can turn up the challenge with the accessibility options, but I do wish there were some challenges designed to really reward mastery of the systems. (If these exist and I missed them,…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →One of the best indie games I've played in a very long time. At 6-7 hours to complete it might seem a little bit on the short side, but I felt that it was perfect for what Skate Story is. The whole game drips with vibes. Every encounter is well crafted. The music is on point. 10/10

This game made feel a lot of things, and it's awesome for that. it's amazing,…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I purposefully avoided playing the demo because I wanted to wait to experience the game in it's entirety. Now that I'm a bit over an hour in, and just starting chapter 2, I can safely say that Skate Story is one of the most beautiful art pieces I've ever had the joy of observing. After about 3 and a half years of patiently waiting, to say this game was worth the wait would be doing it a disservice, as I would've gladly waited a lifetime more for this masterpiece. Kudos to Sam Eng, Blood…

You're a glass demon in hell dealing with failure and anxiety. Surreal, twisted, weird, and the only reason it exists is because one person refused to make something safe. positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I've been following this for years, after playing the demo for hours, and now the full game, I'm over the moon (lol) that it is as good as I hoped. Better even. The art style, the incredible music and atmosphere are unlike anything I've played. Like Rez mixed with THPS and some Jeff Minter vibes, but totally original and very much its own joyous thing.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A game about shattering into a thousand pieces because you slightly misjudged how tall that rail was so instead of grinding on it like a cool guy you absolutely borfed it like a lame guy. And then you get back up and do it all over again because those moons ain't going to eat themselves.

unlabelledView post →This is a weird one, and I don't just mean the game itself. Skate Story is a game I'd give any individual component of around a 7/10 (aside from the music, which is really very good and well-selected), and which I wouldn't say is greater than the sum of its parts, but somehow elevates itself to be a game I would almost call a must-play. This is dark horse GOTY material, despite feeling thoroughly incomplete. And really, that's the core of why I wouldn't give anything in the game more than a…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This would have been impossible as a AAA title. This is a game with an author who had a story that needed an outlet. There was a reason for this game to be made and you can feel it while you're playing. I think the narrative stands on its own as a well-written and thoughtful story. The mechanics stand on their own as genuinely fun gameplay. The soundtrack, made to form for the game, is an accomplishment in and of itself. The visuals are simple but so captivating and so uniquely tailored to…

The low grinding sound of the wheels as it changes from asphalt to concrete to bumpy textured parts of the side walk, the skidding of sliding to the pitch of a manual. The physics and how you can just slowly roll down hill and let momentum carry you across the level, how when you crash, you eat ♥♥♥♥ in *just* that right way where the foot catches the rail and…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A beautiful game that I think needs to better advertise or showcase what the gameplay is actually like on the store page. Visually, sonically, and mechanically this is an awesome game. Props to the developers(or developer?) for this style. But man do you hardly get to do what the game showcases, skating. I feel a lot of people who would be excited about buying a skating game generally are people who enjoy flow games like anything grind fiction or Wipeout, Skate, etc... And that is kind of how…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →In a sea of derivative and creatively bankrupt games, Skate Story stands out as a breath of fresh air. It's honestly baffling how audaciously and fiercely free this game feels. The combination of the game's slickness and its killer ost is a thing to behold. Play this one at full volume on your biggest screen and let it draw you in with its unchecked, unhinged, unapologetic madness.
