Visually the game is absolutely stunning, although I experienced some visual bugs and frame drops in certain areas. Gameplay is fun and engaging with intriguing game mechanics. Story is where the game truly shines, as it dives deep into sámi culture and mythology to deliver a compelling storytelling in an educational manner. This is by no means a full-review of the game, as I've yet to…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Skabma - Snowfall is a beautiful game. Lovely artwork, a cultural lesson on an indigenous Nordic people (the Sami), and a heroic quest with small boy as an unlikely hero. The audio track is recorded in the native language, with translated subtitles. Although there are not a lot of NPCs, there is quite a bit of dialog to step through, requiring multiple visits to each character (and/or their spiritual counterpart) and conversing until the dialog begins to repeat. I have spent many hours and am…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Unfortunately unfinished game with annoying playability and various glitches. Developers definable have not much previous game(mify) experience there. On the art side everything is very good and graphics are near to awesome on high settings. And everything is very athmospheric. Reason I am not requesting a refund is that his is how cultural education should be done to modern audiences - through playable stories and I wan't to support the developers on getting this finalized /ironed out.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I'm really loving the game so far. I've never heard of Sámi before sadly but the game really got me intrigued and I wanted to learn more about them. Graphically, the game is 10/10. Story is pretty neat too, but I've only played for 2 hours. Will update my review once I'm done with the game!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →For the time I was able to play, I really loved the setting, the story, and the ambiance. But it turns out controller-driven jumping-puzzle games are just not my thing. You get to the point where the only way forward is to press this particular sequence of buttons and joystick moves in perfect timing in sequence repeatedly, and every failure puts you back at the start, and after an hour or failing, then what? All that interesting story and charm is locked behind a frustrating impossibility. If…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's one of the best Indie Adventure Mythology games that I have played in 2022, Absolutely Magical in every way, I am a very passionate guy when it comes to games with great storytelling. This game really touched my soul. I had tears in my eyes, I don't know what happened to me but this game certainly touched lots of strings in my soul. If I had one million dollars then for sure I would have happily donated half of it to these incredible game developers and their Teams. We need more games…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I absolutely love this game. The platforming mechanics can be a little hard and I definitely advise playing with a controller, but the difficulty is so worth it. The music, environment, and story are absolutely beautiful. My best friend gifted me this game and I sobbed when I first started it up. I'm Sami. Hearing my language spoken for this entire adventure and seeing my culture brought to life in a way that I could share with all of my twitch viewers was honestly fairly life changing.…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Great adventure game that represents the Sami culture. Other than having an interesting and unique story, the game excels at having incredible graphics as well. The only downside I would say is the gameplay, it's boring and annoying at times.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →With a big sigh I am giving this game a thumbs up. It's a gorgeously told and designed story and setting, but it's a horrendously frustrating game. This is one of the those very rare occasions in which I just barely forgive the latter because I was so touched by the former. I suspect that many gamers won't be as forgiving. Oh, how I love the story. It takes place in a beautiful rendition of Sápmi (a.k.a. Lapland), is voice acted in the enchanting rhythms of the Northern Sámi language, and is…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →really love this game, story is neat, the details were spot-on and artwork is epic. although the game doesn't have a post-game chapter where you can talk to people, collect the 321802 items, etc. and i really feel like it needs it for anyone to actually want to collect every single item. I really loved exploring every corner but I had no clue how to get some of the collectibles and what time I can get them. The movement is very fun and I spent hours just finding ways to exploit the dash's…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →An undeniably pretty platformer that's held back by its clumsy controls, poorly designed side quests, and awkward plot. Skábma is every bit as pretty as the Steam screenshots would lead you to believe. The setting of fantasy Lapland is both unique and beautifully rendered. And I guess the music is nice too. That said, the controls for the game are not great, and the game is held back by them. For example, the button for jumping and setting the platform beneath you on fire is the spacebar for…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Love sami culture and language. But... Gave up on the game, because instead of atmospheric and beautiful experience I got a disappointing platformer hell. Really sorry to say that, but I have to uninstall. I wish I could have really enjoyed the game :(
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Lets me pet reindeer, 11/10 game of the year
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is a beautifiul game! I'm a few hours in and really enjoying the mythology. The scenery is breathtaking! I'm really enjoying it and looking forward to playing more. The best thing is that the indie developers are writing about their own culture, and their love for it really shows. If you love adventure and explanation and a really good story, and want to support Indie developers I highly recommend this game.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Most of the game is spent exploring dark caves where you can't see anything, instead of the beautiful landscapes of Lapland, like the marketing made it seem. And even with those sections that take place outdoors, the level design is so awful, that despite the levels being very linear, it is not always clear where to go next. Terrible camera doesn't help, when it keeps getting stuck in the level geometry. You can get a blue line marking the correct way by banging on the drum in game with R1 or…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →As someone not exactly familiar with Sámi culture, I enjoyed the novel setting and mythology depicted here, and the visuals are generally nice (though optimization isn't what it could be on PC). Unfortunately, as you progress further into the game and the platforming mechanics become more involved (you periodically acquire new abiilities, and the level design increasingly demands that you use several or all of them in a single series of jumps), Skábma ultimately becomes too janky for me to…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Very nice platformer with an interesting Nordic setting and nice artwork. However, the developers have committed an unforgivable crime: The game doesn't have a conclusive ending, but a cliffhanger with a reference to the next part. If I had known this, I wouldn't have bought the game. I would have missed out on around 8 hours of enjoyable gameplay, but now I feel like I've simply abandoned the game. Apart from that, the biggest criticism is probably the not very well thought-out controls with…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →If you are looking for a semi-open world adventure game with main/side tasks to complete, great scenery/graphics, and great music then this is your game. With frequent save points, even inexperienced gamers like me can man the controls enough to beat the game. It keeps you interested by slowing introducing new abilities that can unlock more places to explore and hidden objects. Meditation spots in-game are for great for appreciating views and reflecting. There are moments when you get attacked,…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →As others have said, the idea of an indigenous story-based game is great. This game has real potential. Unfortunately, it's entirely let down by its lack of optimization and nightmarish controls. Optimization I have a good PC. I've yet to play a game I couldn't run on its highest graphic settings. Yet, the second I started playing this game, the opening cut scene was stuttering like I was trying to run it on a potato. The game's lighting is pretty intricate, but the graphics and level of…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Beautiful world inspired by Sámi culture and mythology. The lore, spirits and story are interesting and captivating. However, the gameplay drags it down with clunky controls, an awkward camera and flying mechanic that feels broken and frustrating. Every time I had to move through the air, I dreaded it. Despite its problems, the game is worth a positive rating for its culture and story. 🎚️ Difficulty 🔲 My grandma could play it 🔲 Easy ☑️ Normal 🔲 Hard 🔲 A challenge to be…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Neat game - looks great! After about 2 hours I got to the 'air attunement' portion of learning to LB / A / B etc air jumping between bleeds and gave up. Sometimes the mechanism simply wouldn't catch up to the gameplay and I fell in the water about 20 times - then I left this review.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →You ever play a game that gives you zero direction and zero visibility? If not this game is for you. At certain points this game literally puts you in areas that really don't tell you were to go and you end up taking a detour that takes about 30 minutes to get back to were you were. Not only that but the stuttering even at the lowest settings. The story is odd it goes from being decent to going down hill like a avalanche. I won't spoil it but you basically waste about 7 hours or less of…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →was having fun, until the devs decided "you know how everyone hates sewer levels? lets do that but make it also a main part of the game, and ♥♥♥♥ visibility we need alllll the fog!"
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Oh man, oh man what a game! Skábma - Snowfall is a beautiful game both when it comes to story and world. The gameplay is a 3D-platformer with some unique mechanics thanks to the drum. All of the things that you collect in this game has a story and teaches you about Sámi culture and history. I highly recommend it. The great story, world and music are really great. If you like me want to collect and do everything, there's a great guide to help you. You can chapter-select, so I recommend…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Cool Game. A lot of care and thought went into this game for sure. Characters, Scenes, and Artstyle are all very well done! Even the drum beating to the rhythm of the ambient music in each area was a very nice touch! Only real gripe was gameplay. You gain all these abilities but don't really have a use for most of them until the VERY final chapters. World felt a bit scrambled making it hard to really navigate without the drum at all times. Most levels boiled down to just walking with no real…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I made it to chapter four out of ten before I stopped playing. Maybe it gets better after that? I didn't see anything to really suggest that it would. The collectible descriptions are a delight. I genuinely laughed out loud at some of them and the story lines they implied could have been the basis for an entire other game. This one however, has *a lot* of rough edges. The base game play is pretty much just walking to objectives. It has a primary quest marker that it encourages the player to…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →As a Sàmi myself, I truly appreciate this gem of a game. It's a wonderful experience, to see your culture in a game and so well represented at the same time. The story is written beautifully, the exploration is great, and to connect with the many different spirits in the game. And it's a good educational game for non-Sámi as well as Sàmi who just learning about their own heritage. I couldn't recommend the game more. 10/10 I'm uploading this wonderful experience on Youtube as we speak. Thank…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Highly recommend the game for lovers of all things mythology. It's a pretty solid 8, after patches I'd maybe even elevate it to a 8.5 out of 10. The game is absolutely beautiful and very atmospheric. In some levels the fog does feel a little thick and could be toned down, but it didn't affect visibility too much in my opinion. A previous review did mention a swamp area where the effect is quite overwhelming but I personally felt like the player was given quite clear guidance on where to go…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game had an absolutely wonderful base experience. The developers really know how to immerse you and take you on a journey that's beautifully designed. It has some slight control jank that's typical of these types of indie titles, but the mechanics are satisfying and feel pretty unique. The visuals are beautiful, especially the atmospheric shifts throughout the game left me in awe. I cannot wait for the sequel! For those that like to achievement hunt and 100% their games- there's certain…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I really want to love this game in it's entirety. There's a lot to really like about it. For starters, it's beautiful - the dev team have done an incredible job of bringing Northern Scandinavia to life. The story if very engaging, and I loved learning about the history and beliefs of the Sámi people. The game play concept was also quite novel - using different familiar spirits to control parts of the world. Overall, it's it pretty solid. A few things were a little disappointing. The character…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →If you're looking for a game with very interesting world-building, lore, and a strong sense of exploration, this might be your cup of tea! The story and gameplay encourage you to explore. I'm the kind of player that loves to look for collectibles, especially if they offer more insight into the lore, and this game rewards that interest. The little stories attached to the collectibles have made me chuckle or say 'aww' more than once, and also taught me more about an interesting real-world Sami…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Skamba is a truly special game. The developers managed to bring the mythology to life with the graphics, the landscapes, the audio and the story. I had a bit of a hard time in the bear cave (thanks for the "Can't be killed" achievement ;) ) and with orientation, some help would be good here (a map please!) I also really liked the characters and their uniqueness. I could spend forever just walking through the landscape and enjoying the beauty of nature and the game! I have a bit of a hard time…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Sadly can't recommend this title, it's another I wish I liked but the gameplay overall was just not that enjoyable. The Sámi legends were great, and overall the story was decent. The voice work was also quite enjoyable, I liked everyone's voices and it wasn't too difficult to follow along with the subtitles. Graphics was fine, some areas were really beautiful and detailed. The problem is that a lot of the game is VERY dark, especially at night (and the story will make you do some…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I particularly liked the fact that the whole game is in the Sami language and that you get to know a lot of Sami myths. One of these, I believe, was a symbol of the discovery of oil in the region and the subsequent extractive industries that displaced the Sami and destroyed their sacred areas. Gameplay-wise it's really cosy, with some simple platforming and a focus on exploration. The controls can be a little clunky, but not overly so. All in all, I had a lot of fun with the platforming and…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I really, really want to like this game. It's super unique, and I'm so happy to see a game about the sami people. However, the controls just gets worse and worse the more powers you get in the game. I got to a point where I got too frustrated to continue.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This review is based on 100% completion and 11.8 hours of gameplay. Recommendation: Would I recommend this game? I would. This is a really lovely, charming, narratively driven experience. If you’re looking to relax and experience a different culture, this is a great option to pick up. That said, because it is so heavily story-driven, it won’t be for everyone. But if that sounds like your kind of thing, it’s definitely worth it. First off, I’m a big fan of games like this that focus on sharing…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Recommend for story, scenery, learning about another culture and getting to listen to the beautiful language the whole time. But only if you like and are good at platformers. This game was immensely frustrating and I almost stopped playing. I died 140 times in the 4 hours and 18 minutes it took me to beat. So... yeah, play at your own risk.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A lovely story driven game with pretty visuals, breathtaking music and lots of love poured into it. I highly recommend using a controller for the platforming and just overall feel. While hunting for collectibles, I was really happy about the menu showcasing if I had gotten everything from each area. Same thing with the chapter selection after I had finished playing the game!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →very interesting game they made me love sami people somehow
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I liked this game for the most of the parts: The story and the Sami language delivered what I bought this game for, the graphics were good (some glitches with the characters and sometimes the levels were hard to read because of the details) and I liked the collectibles. The developers have listened to the players and added stuff to the game after launch, which is cool. I didn't like the 3D platforming, as the level design and most of the puzzles could have needed more streamlined design and…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Haven't seen an adventure game about Sámi people before! It feels more of an adventure/puzzle game in the beginning, though it evolved into more of being a platformer towards the end. The cultural angle makes it worthwhile to try out on its own already, but it's a fun game also without the context. A few pros and cons: + Pretty graphically, especially the environments. + Actual Sámi voice acting? That's a first at least for me. + Movement options towards the late game make the traversal fun. -…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Skábma™ - Snowfall is a quietly powerful narrative adventure that distinguishes itself not through spectacle or combat, but through atmosphere, cultural authenticity, and a deeply respectful relationship with its subject matter. Developed by Red Stage Entertainment and published by PID Games, Sunsoft, and Dear Villagers, the game offers an experience that feels closer to an interactive folktale than a traditional video game. From the opening moments, it establishes a calm, contemplative tone…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Nice game, very interesting story and nice to play along the cultures depicted. It made me want to learn more about the people and the lore it was inspired.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →just a boring walking simulator, where you don't know, where to go and boring story. Story Rich is rly overrated here! maybe interesting for the age beteween 10-12
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →If you are a person who enjoys nature, mythology and values preserving cultures, this is a game for you A fascinating jump into the Sámi culture that I'm sure many people have been wishing for. Skábma has quite a lot of information about the traditions, mythology and every-day life of Sámi people without info dumping you with a ton of lore text. The atmosphere of the game is very dreamlike and magical with a little twist of creepiness involved. I personally have an old potato of a gaming laptop…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Took a break from this game for a couple days, forgot how to get places, got stuck in a loop trying to find my way back, partly through dark, foggy, areas with nothing to guide me. The map doesn't show you where you're located, which is frustrating. I liked the story, but am not interested enough to start the game over again after getting over halfway through
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Refreshing to see a game about the Sámi! It's a pretty and atmospheric game with good worldbuilding, clearly a lot of love was poured into it. I love the music especially, the drum matching the beat with the soundtrack is a nice touch. The drum mechanic is interesting and i like the concept, but I gotta admit that the precisely timed platforming often didn't feel very good to play; it was the death of me plenty of times and progression was delayed. It wasn't a deal-breaker for me but I can see…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →interesting, and unique educational game from unique cultural perspective of the Sami people (indigenous people of Nordic/Northern Europe) and heir mythology/ Despite being laggy at times and some bugs, I'd still recommend this warm heart felt and unique game experience
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Two things I learned in the intro movie: 1. The whole premise of the game is based on a reindeer getting out of the pen. 2. When the reindeer escaped, he went left. Two things I learned within 3 minutes of the intro movie ending: 1. You cannot close the gate. 2. The reindeer did not go left.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's somewhat okay at first, although running around holding the left mouse button to drum is not a good idea. Speaking of the drum, listening to that ♥♥♥♥ for an hour is really annoying, I can't see myself completing this game for that alone. It gets worse though, once you get the dash, the game really sucks. Those are some of the worst plattforming controls I've ever seen. The drum-dash just doesn't work half of the time and the air controls are terrible. I kinda like the entire tribe setting…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →very cool and fun
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Visually stunning. Soundtrack was a perfect fit. Story keeps you wanting to push forward to find out what happens next. Very interesting to get a glimpse into the Sámi people of the 1600s. Definitely some major performance issues causing FPS drops. Running a Ryzen 7 2700X, 16gb ram, and an RTX 2070, I was surprised I couldn't keep a consistent 60fps at 1080p. Mostly areas with heavier particle effects and lighting would dip to mid 30s sometimes. I did end up dropping all settings to their…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Beautiful story game and a deep dive into Sami mythology. I'm absolutely in love and enjoyed every minute of the game. For me, an absolute jump & run noob, it was just short of 13 hours. While I certainly wouldn't have complained about dozens upon dozens upon dozens of hours in this world, I think the length is very appropriate both the story and the price, especially keeping in mind how small this team is. Skábma is nothing short of a real piece of art and I really hope they'll achieve more…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Works fine in linux, pretty good gameplay. Suohtas fearan.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Charming, atmospheric, sometimes spooky platformer! Pretty solid experience, with great scenery and fun characters. If you don't mind spending a little more time exploring, then its definitely worth the asking price.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Not recommended - it is terribly unoptimized and the gameplay is of the dull follow-the-trail sort. The voice acting is kind of basic, kills the adventuring momentum and frankly is worse than nothing. It never rises above the boredom and fails to provide a reason for the player to care. It is just another example about how hard cultural games tend to blow chunks. There are no options for lowering the resolution bellow 720p. It is dumb to use technical limitations to force a higher resolution…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The game's themes are the return of knowledge to the Sámi community, the recovery of a lost culture and language, and the relationship to the land and the world. The game explores what it is like to live as a Sámi who is unaware of their own culture, and works to explore the past and reclaim knowledge. This game is magical, and gives player a sense of wonder. Highly recommend!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Really nice game! I'm not the best at platformers, but I still got myself through the most tricky spots, albeit did get the "go through 50 bodies" achievement which got a chuckle out of my frustrated self. The balance between difficulty and immersion was really fine tuned for me, as it got tricky spot on according to the drama itself. The small cultural inserts are expertly distributed, and I'm now eagerly chasing all the notes, scribblings and especially the treasure chests. Talking of…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Sometimes i really wish there was a "Mixed" option for reviews. It's a neat game with a simple story but short enough to be entertaining. Still it's janky and not all that responsive sometimes. It's got no real combat to speak of but it does have some janky platforming.
