Sins of a Solar Empire is a 2008 science fiction real-time strategy 4X video game developed by Ironclad Games and published by Stardock Entertainment for Microsoft Windows operating systems. It is a real-time strategy (RTS) game that incorporates some elements from 4X games; its makers describe it as "RT4X". negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →outdated version of Sins of a Solar Empire: Rebellion so unless this is on sale and Rebellion is not and you want to see if its a game for you dont buy this
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Great game, don't get me wrong, but save your time and money, and just get Sins of a Solar Empire: Rebellion. It's just this, and then some.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →People say that this version of Sins is obsolete due to the sequel (Rebellion) but it isn't. The AI is way more competent in this version. It's capable of actually attacking you properly, as opposed to the sequel where you can put the AI on hard/aggressive and still not see them for 2 hours. You play against hard AI in this game and it feels like you're playing against a hard AI. They'll be hitting you with small fleets within minutes of starting, and they only get bigger as time goes on. Also…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Some of the other reviews say this better, but others have some misinformation (at least in 2023), so: 1) As of 2023, you don't seem to need a stardock account to start this game (at least the Trinity version, the play button exposes 3 options, the original game, the game with Entrenchment expansion, and then Trinity which contains the game, and 2 expansions: Entrenchment and Diplomacy); 2) Despite Steam's listing showing this game tagged as Single-Player, the game is really not - there's no…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Spaceships are cool, follow if you agree. (This is from the game I work on, Sins of a Solar Empire II)
unlabelledView post →Apropos of nothing: I remember thinking for ages 'gosh it would be nice to have a Sins of a Solar Empire sequel! That game was really fun, had a lot of interesting things going on, and could have used some more polish but there's nothing quite like it!' Then we got AI sequel so I can't enjoy it
unlabelledView post →Seriously though, the space game I want is a Halo GSG where the space combat is Sins of a Solar Empire but with Empire at War hardpoints and reinforcements, the ground combat is Company of Heroes, and the 4X galaxy map uses the board game Diplomacy's simultaneous turn based system
unlabelledView post →Spent three hours playing a big Sins of a Solar Empire II game against the AI only for the AI to intelligently mass and overrun our home system while the bulk of our forces were stuck fighting in another system. Kinda sad to lose after that much time commitment, but a good sign for the AI I guess.
unlabelledView post →People defending stardock using tons of horrible generative image on their last games , Galactic Civilization IV and Sins of a Solar Empire 2 saying that the game is lower price because of this dont realize the price is actually the same but they are already bombarded by dlcs on top of that.
unlabelledView post →It was good but Rebellion is the game you should buy because its this but more 10/10
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I can't recommend buying any games from Stardock anymore since they have decided to release all of their games as timed exclusives on the Epic Game store. A betrayal to all of us who have been supporting them on steam for the last 10+ years.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →"Sins of a Solar Empire: Trinity®" is an ancient game from 2010. It's a whopping 14 years old at the time of this review. The game lacks support for the typical features of modern gaming PCs, hasn't been modernised or updated to run smoothly on contemporary machines. The game looks and feels dated. Despite this lack of modernisation, it carries a pretty high price tag for such an old game. This seems to have be lingering on Steam with an inflated price to try profit from abandonware. One…

unlabelledView post →🧵I have purchased one (1) game with AI Slop in it, and it was pretty early in (by my understanding) and that's Sins of a Solar Empire 2, and because I noticed all of the facial art would have put a goddamn artists kid through college (there are a *LOT* of pictures) I vowed to *NEVER* buy AI Art.
unlabelledView post →Sins of A Solar Empire is still the coolest video game name ever. shame the sequel is an ai-filled clusterfuck because the original is still one of the better rts games of this century, i love massive scale stuff, supreme commander in space is always the best idea anyone ever had
unlabelledView post →Oh hey, I recognise those! Sins of the Prophets (a Halo mod for the strategy game Sins of a Solar Empire) uses them as fighter screeners. They called them the DAS-class Storm Cutter and the Gladius-class Heavy Cruiser. Apparently the Halo show had a Gladius and the DAS was mentioned in Halo Infinite

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Sins of a Solar Empire 2 appreciation post. This game is really pretty and fun.
unlabelledView post →Saw Sins of a Solar Empire II on Steam, loved the first game, interested in this one until I remembered Brad Wardell is still in charge of Stardock and fuck that guy.
unlabelledView post →So game testing: Tie Fighter Total Conversion was great - even with the crashes and the failiure. I hope I keep going SW Strike Force - I need to learn how to play Sins of a Solar Empire again, I felt lost for mechanics and controls but I was picking it up ATM I'd put Tie Fighter in my rotation😅
unlabelledView post →Sins of a Solar Empire I think is a good example of a game that has at least *some* unit autonomy. I can send a fleet to a planet, and they will automatically engage everything in that gravity well, use special abilities on their own, and all that good shit.
unlabelledView post →I can confirm that Sins of a Solar Empire II is great. It's rare these days to get a sequel that is just the first game improved in every single way.
unlabelledView post →Does any game title go harder than Sins of a Solar Empire? No

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →There's another, much better version of the game... It's called "Sins of a Solar Empire: Rebellion"... and I would honestly recommend you to get that instead. Don't get me wrong - I love the gameplay, the setting, and basically, the SoaSE game franchise but this game didn't age well at all. I had trouble finding a way to reduce the enemy's difficulty (I'm good at 4x strategy games but not THAT good, ya know wut I mean?) - a feature that's available in Rebellion but apparently not in Trinity.…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →...So the Galactic Empire mod in Sins of a Solar Empire 2 will keep me sane until we hear about the next Empire at War game... It's... Really good. Like 'holy shit this is a mod?' good. I am still figuring out how the fuck the faction mechanics work though - a bit different resource management.
unlabelledView post →This is a classic game, and the best version of it. I regard Sins of a Solar Empire: Trinity and European Wars: Back to War as the two greatest games of all time.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →"Oh hey, Sins of a Solar Empire II is out! I enjoyed the first game!" *boots up* "Hm. Something feels off..." *checks store page* "Ah. Figured." Can we please f*cking fire every single C-Suite f*ck who greenlights genAI usage? Please?

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Solid gameplay but can't say I can recommend this since there is a better version of this (Rebellion) out; definitely worth the money to get that instead of this. Runs awfully slow if having massive space battles with potato pc's.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →My first encounter of it was how it was used to completely fuck up Sins of a Solar Empire 2. AI Generated character portraits and UI layouts created a game that was borderline unreadable despite over 2 years of Early Access. SOASE2 was an early adopter of the tech, and it had a big negative effect.
unlabelledView post →Actually, I think Battletech is a very good choice here. I was going to suggest a few things but that 'half hour' part kinda killed it for me (Like, I love Sins of a Solar Empire, but a half hour is...not a good segment time for that game). But battletech has a good story, and missions are 30min.

unlabelledView post →Wait Sins of a Solar Empire 2 is a full on 4x game and not the pseudo 4x RTS game the first one was?
unlabelledView post →It's a very obscure reference to a game I like from 2008, Sins of a Solar Empire.
unlabelledView post →they renamed core game, and slapped on some updates and bug fixing and sold it as a new game. No.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →For some weird reason this game sometimes is being compared with Stellaris from Paradox Studio, which is all the way wrong. Stellaris is 4x strategy game, while this game is actually pure RTS. In the early 2000s, even before my teen years, I played another iconic space RTS, called Haegemonia. So, I can call Sins Of a Solar Empire a cultural successor of Haegemonia of some sort. This Steam edition, called Trinity, already contains all the released DLCs, which makes it a very wise way to spend…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →no matter the setting for the AI, the AI will out produce the human player and will produce larger and more advanced ships than the human player can produce. I have not found a way to stay even with AI and never winning
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Not a well balanced game. It appears you have to play with a very specific strategy to be successful. Very steep learning curve.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Great fleet management game with satisfying combat. Been playing this since 2008 and still keep coming back.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game doesn't even run on Windows 10, DO NOT get
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →2/10 not a fan, its got some cool mods tho
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →its the old version of the game..... why buy it... less you love old versions... then its perfect....
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I'm giving it a thumbs down for the concurrence of multiple issues: a) No campaign or grand strategy mode available. So the Single Player experience is very limited. It is a pure RTS with 4X elements that allows you to play random or premade maps against human (if multiplayer) or AI foes. This is pretty much as having Starcraft without any SP campaign: not the end of the world, just another issue. The bigger maps are not even close to a grand strategy map, so don't expect an Stellaris…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Just a datapoint: This installed and launched fine for me with the default steam settings on Linux Mint. And the other reviewer who said there are only a few skirmish maps is not completely correct; there’s also a random map generator. Some of the UI and graphics stuff is decidedly dated and makes me appreciate newer games. But still, it is what it was, and that’s why I bought it rather than one of the remakes. Now nostalgia, here I come!

unlabelledView post →I used to beat this and other stardock games on the hardest difficulties. Now the "FIXED" it and as soon as you start to win it turns on AI cheating to keep you from winning. Even on normal mode. Even if you take 3/4 of the planets and have tones of money and resources, it still overwhelms you. Even if everything on a planet is 100% upgraded and 100% tech tree finished with everything done that is possible the AI will still stomp you. Just give up now. The game devs ruined this game!…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Not being able to get Empire at War or the first Sins of a Solar Empire working is Doing Things to our brain... what do you MEAN we can't play a RTS game that we can sink a few hours of time into when we're feeling like dogshit but don't want to talk to people !!
unlabelledView post →There are things that can come close. Stellaris is similar, and you can even get Star Wars mods for it, but it lacks the real focus on the characters that Rebellion gives. Total War, Crusader Kings, Sins of a Solar Empire, none of them quite hit the mark for me I hear the board game is good though
unlabelledView post →Agreed. Sins of a Solar Empire 2 is, in my opinion, way way better than the first game... Except for the rare resources you need to build capital ships. All of which are just... 'this one is grey, but this one is BLUE' until you build the factory that can make all of them and then the mechanic dies.
unlabelledView post →Just really sucks that there are 2 really good games so far this year I'm not playing over this. I will admit I did buy Sins of a Solar Empire 2 without knowing and while it's a good game, every time I see the AI "art" in the UI I get really disappointed.
unlabelledView post →Sure is weird playing the Zerg campaign of StarCraft 2 and suddenly having a battlecruiser hero mission. It's like Sins of a Solar Empire but not as good because the game isn't meant to be that.
