So, I want to underline that this review is not about Shogo as a game itself, but about this release version. Shogo was originally released on the 15th October 1998 and re-released on 15th April 2017 here on Steam as the almost 19-year-old classic it is. The game does work, yes. But it is far from being satisfying: Framedrops (even in the option menus), stuttering, no fullscreen and…

Thanks to Sephazon for coordinating! 💫 Our next stretch goals include the highly requested Nintendo Switch version! The Nintendo Switch version will also be playable on Nintendo Switch 2.

Just like in my Blood 2 Steam review, I'll say that it's a very 90's game in the way that you don't reload and you have to rebind all the keys because they're set to clasic dos games controls. "up arrow" moves forward and "left arrow" turns left. Being almost 20 years old and not optimized, you have to download a "Widescreen Fix". https://www.gog.com/forum/shogo_mobile_armor_division/widescreen_patch You will also need a "Borderless…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Dug out my old copy of GURPS Mecha earlier, and it's such a cool timepiece of TTRPG crossover anime/manga fandom in the late 90s. I remember using this to run a homebrew Shogo: Mobile Armour Division tabletop campaign, so enamoured was I by that game for a while.
unlabelledView post →This is a very very veERYYY Rough gem. But I love it. It requires two external programs* to run on your modern system and a very simple editing of a config file to run near perfect, and once it runs, it runs. *just download and drag into the main game file* I don't review games, but after the credits I couldn't help but leave a review. So here goes. The AI is either dead-eye'd or dumb as hell. Once you get about half-way, or maybe sooner, you'll soon learn to abuse the AI behaviors and…

unlabelledView post →While some might be interested in Shogo for the nostalgic value, or perhaps you were just a fan of other Monolith titles like FEAR or NOLF, the fact remains that this game is a complete chore to get working on modern systems. While the more technologically inclined can get it working after 30 minutes to an hour of tinkering, piecing together all the downloads you need from various sources scattered throughout the internet, the average user isn't going to want to go through the trouble.…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I dont get why there are negative reviews mostly for Shogo. This is a classis FPS game from my childhood, and I have 0 (ZERO) technical issues running it on modern system with win10 without any 3rd party apps, or patches. Its just like it was back in 1998, if you miss those good old days, play it for gods sake :).
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Shogo Sakai, the composer of Smash Bros., Mother 3, and many more games, praising the quality of Alabaster Dawn's soundtrack makes me so incredibly proud of my friends who developed this game. Congratulations to @radicalfishgames.com I really couldn't be more proud of you.

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Well, I tried this out, and everything was pretty smooth until about 20 minutes into it the game crashed. So still a fairly authentic Shogo experience. 🤷♂️

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Shogo Mobile Armor Division is a first person shooter created by Monolith and was the very first game to use the Lithtech engine. It's a rather unique game stylistically and in terms of concept. You play as a pilot named Sanjuro who both controls a mech suit and fights on foot in a war against other mechs. Shogo is heavily inspired by Japanese anime. To the point where I think it harms the game overall. The game looks very ugly visually and you can especially see it with the characters, who…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Shogo Mobile Armor Division is an FPS/Mech game where you jump between using a mech and a real person each mission to fight evil! From a JRPG inspired game to a game based, what seems like, on the Gundam series! Maybe even a hint of Ghost in the Shell like Oni was? Could be just me. Get it on GoG!

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Shogo for $16 bucks is kind of wild. The game has had no form of enhancements added (not even simple edits to run on modern systems). IMO, if you’re not at least offering a GOG Presevation Program level of polish, your old games shouldn’t be this pricey.

It offers up an oldschool or "boomer shooter" as we seem to call them nowadays type of experience with the eyecatching stylings inspired by Japanese animations like Patlabor, Gundam, Appleseed or Evangelion. It's an interesting and unique look at an early take on an anime mech game through the lens of a western videogame studio. It is…

The graphical presentation is not very good though, especially the character models, and considering that Unreal and Half-Life came out the same year. It is a shame though, the art is spectacular and I would love to have seen it released a few years later and on a more capable engine. A catchy theme song. The weapon variety is quite nice. There is a miserable difficulty gap between Normal and Hard: Normal is a bit too easy…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This thing needs a remaster ASAP. Whenever i get to speak about a game by Monolith, the first thing i usually say is that they are probably my second-favorite game developer of all time, right behind Looking Glass Studios. Basically, almost every Monolith shooter in existence is a highlight of the genre, if not one of the very best shooters of all time, as is the case with F.E.A.R. and Aliens versus Predator 2. Even if some of their titles are slightly overrated, they usually have at least…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I want to see Nightdive tackle Realms of the Haunting in a similar way to how they did Killing Time. It's a great game that's held back by a slightly buggy DOS executable. Also Shogo Mobile Armor Division, because it's 50/50 that game will work on modern PCs (doesn't work on mine).

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The plot is well written for a game that came out in 1998. It's got mechas, it's got plot, it's got Easter eggs, it's got great levels and puzzles which aren't hard and a hell of a lot of battles and gore. It's a great game, and i'm on the lookout for the next Shogo "saga" to continue.. Was such a throw back to when my dad picked up this game to try out. Life got in the way and he didn't pick it up after the second level. 23 years later and I purchased this game again as I don't have a disc…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I loved this game as a kid but after buying a steam copy tonight it's crashed 5 times in 39 minutes and it's made all text in steam and my internet browser look extremely chunky and pixellated to the point that it's difficult to read. It's bad enough for a game to not work, but if it's going to break things beyond the game it shouldn't even be in the store. Definitely avoid.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →As a latecomer to this game, I can't help but feel let down by this blast from the past. While its mecha-filled universe initially intrigued me, the outdated graphics and clunky controls quickly soured the experience. The promise of high-octane action falls flat due to repetitive gameplay and uninspired level design. Despite its nostalgic appeal for some, "Shogo" struggles to hold up against modern standards, ultimately leaving me wishing for a more polished and engaging experience.…
