Blood II: The Chosen + Expansion
Developer Monolith Productions
Blood II: The Chosen is a 1998 first-person shooter game developed by Monolith Productions and distributed by GT Interactive. Unlike the first installment, Blood, which was set in 1928, it takes place in the year 2028, so in addition to conventional weapons and magical items also incorporates science fiction technology, mostly falling under the cyberpunk genre, and elements of dystopian fiction. Much like its… From Wikipedia (CC BY-SA 4.0)

However, when I saw the actual release date and googled the whole story behind the game's development, I felt really bad for the developers and even didn't want to critisize Blood 2 harshly. Nevertheless, the problem is that at the end of the day those tragic events do not improve the quality of the…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I was searching for a way to play more games back from 1998, like Blood II, and since modern systems don't cooperate 99.9% of the time, I found out something that might help you as well. 1) Follow this link https://dege.freeweb.hu/dgVoodoo2/dgVoodoo2/ and download the latest stable version . 2) Extract the files into a folder in any location you want. You will copy any files you want from that folder. 3) Go into the local files of the game you want. (In this case, Blood II). 4) Now, extract…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It sucks, no doubt, but add the Blood 2: Fix Compilation by vini1264, found at https://www.pcgamingwiki.com/wiki/Blood_II:_The_Chosen, and it's at least playable on modern systems. Doesn't make the game good but at least you can play it.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →"Check the obituary, you'll find my career there." ~Bruce Campbell The story so far. Nick Newhard, who was a big fan of horror movies, founded a company called Q Studios, which started developing its very first game—a dark horror game called, well, Horror 3D. Then Duke Nukem 3D came out and took the world by storm. Q's game instantly switched directions. The thing is—Horror 3D wasn't just a stand-alone thing; it was developed in an agreement with Apogee. And Duke? Despite not being the first…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →getting really tired of these ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ games i buy needing some stupid mod from a shady looking site. why the hell cant they just work? seems like they are just selling them without making sure the damn games even run, if we have to make it run ourselves then why the ♥♥♥♥ are we paying for em?
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I have only one complaint about this game. A very simple one. It doesn't work. What's the most basic aspect of any video game? Being able to play it, right?! This one, fails in delivering that.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →If you want to play the game, you need a wrapper called dgVoodoo2 and a resolution patch. They're both available on Dege's website. For the wrapper, under "About," click "Downloads" and then click "Latest stable version." Download v2.86.5 (released: 2026.01.04). Then under "Various patches," click "downloads" (again) and it's the second one "Blood 2 - high resolution fix." Click the hyperlink and download it. From there, you need to extract both files. While in dgvoodoo2v2864ver, grab…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I really want to like this game especially because it's a sequel to one of the first FPS games ever. Game have issues with running on higher resolution modes and it's very buggy so you have to find workaround to make it work, also configure your mouse and such. Still worth checking if you like classic FPS titles but buggy nature might turn you against this game.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Nightdive.... Please....
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Let me start by saying I never played the original Blood, and did not play this when it came out either. I'm a Quake kid. The negative reviews for not being able to run the game are wild--it takes less than 3 minutes to download the fix and update for modern systems. Because I don't have nostalgia and fanboy hate goggles for this game, I gotta tell you...it's pretty fun. Graphics are dope for this era. Textures are crispy AF and absolutely everything in the game blows up or gibs into chunks.…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I'm going to start by saying - play this game or atleast find a playthrough to learn what rushed development due to unreasonable deadlines can do with game that had so much potential, after being sequel to one of the best shooters of old days. No blame is to be put on Monolith, as they likely did the best they can to have this game run in at least this state. Now to actual review - game is bad. Like really bad. I could find many good things about Daikatana when I played it a few years back,…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Born to be BLOOD, CHOSEN to be ass
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I wanted to play the game really badly again for nostalgia but sadly doesn't function anymore </3 no matter how many mods you install to fix it, it'll break over and over again. But I would gladly recommend it if they remastered it and make it properly function on a modern system.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Blood II: The Chosen? It's RAW. It's completely broken, unfinished, lacks polish, and doesn't even resemble the first game in any way except for the plot and characters, also poorly utilized. It starts out terribly: it doesn't work in modern PCs without unofficial fixes. Modern hardware incompatibilities shouldn't be a reason to negatively review games, but it's important to mention in this case, since even after reaching a playable state, this piece of junk is still not a good experience.…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Go home, Blood, you are drunk! What happened here? The first entry was such a masterpiece. The sequel is a mess in comparassion. There is still fun to be had, but it's a experience that lacks ryme on reason in it's overall desgin. We get a very wide range of weapons, we might get most of them early on in the game. And while they are mostly fun to use, they make little difference from each other. Levels are so open they feel aimless, and in not in a good way, since there aren't many secrets to…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This really requires some NIGHTDIVE STUDIOS magic on it. One of my favorite games ever as shooting is fun and I spent hours in the game back then. So, Atari, please hire Nightdive Studios to FIX THIS broken mess, at least to have it running on modern PCs.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Blood 2: The Chosen came out back in 1998 as a rushed to market, broken mess of a game. Following up on a legendary build-engine FPS classic in a world where non sprite based 3D engines were just hitting the market, it was only natural that Blood would follow suit. You play as Caleb or one of the other Chosen. Still fighting the Cabal, who have now gone from being a simple cult in the first game, to a fullblown global corporation. Facts One of the earlier 3D engine FPS games. The campaign…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Technical Disclaimer: Let’s be real, this game feels like it’s on Steam purely by accident. No one bothered to optimize it for modern OS or hardware. To get it running properly, you must find a fix guide on Nexus Mods. Trust me, though—it’s absolutely worth the effort. About the game: Blood 2 is an incredible relic of the late 90s. I’m a huge fan of classics like Half-Life 1 and Return to Castle Wolfenstein, but somehow Blood 2 flew under my radar. I’m genuinely surprised it’s so much less…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →got this and it was a nightmare to run, patching and hacking the thing to work in 2026 is a lot of sketchy garbage even for $0.99. atari should be shamed for this, fix the game or offer a modern patch if you want anyone to play this in 2025 and beyond. its broken at best and barely works with patching and hours of wasted time. can't recommend this build or game in it's current state.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The game is broken, unfinished and sucks. What a shame, the original Blood 1 was a masterpiece. Everything about this game is terrible. You can see potential for it to be a good game, but its like they created 80% of the game, then decided to not finish it, or work out its bugs. It's not fun. Do not waste your money, I feel literally robbed for the first time ever. And I buy a lot of crap and indie games. This is one of the worst games that I have ever played. I'm so annoyed at the game that I…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Barely functional due to being forced out the door whilst only half finished, it's dripping with lost potential. Don't play on suicide mode, you'll regret it.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Victims. Aren't we all? A perfect storm of unfortunate circumstances couldn't end in a happy ending. If you squint hard enough, between the tetanus-inducing sharp edges and exposed rebars, you can see some potential and talent from Monolith Productions' previous and future projects. However, the whole thing doesn't come together right, and looking back after 27 years, it's certainly a case of being less than the sum of its parts and an endearing mess in many crucial aspects in a very…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I remember playing it when it came out and I didn't like it. As for a sequal, there are a lot of fresh components in this game, including the engine, but I didn't like it. Too much humor, I guess, which I am all for in most games, but not for a Blood sequel. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2886324478 https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2886333284
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →As others said, this is unplayable on modern systems without extensive modifications. I still want to leave a positive review for a chance for a future blood 3. This ip was the peak of the 90's shooters, even though this game came out RAW, I still hope my boy Caleb will have his comeback.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →In desperate need of a Nightdive overhaul. Runs like absolute ass (and always has really). One can only hope now that Nightdive is owned by Atari, we could get a good version of this game. But even if they were to do so, they'd really have their work cut out for em.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Game is not working Error 0xc0000022 Why are you selling product that doesn't even work?
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I don't care what people say about this game for a clickbait title.Yeah, It's raw, but It is still fun, More fun than the 38109th COD clone. And it's way more cooked than fallout 76. And everyone seems to like those games. SO why does everyone hate this game? I really like blood II. It's kinda buggy, but that is part of the fun (in my opinion) and I don't regret buying this game. But it needs the right kind of computer to run properly.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I could've thrown the 85 cents I spent on this at my buds head and gotten more enjoyment
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Blood II: The Chosen – A Masterclass in Mediocrity Oh wow, Blood II: The Chosen. Where do I even begin? This game is truly the crown jewel of 1998. I mean, who needs polish or cohesion when you have edgy one-liners, gratuitous violence, and a storyline duct-taped together with what I can only assume were discarded pages from a 13-year-old’s notebook? Let’s talk graphics. LithTech engine, baby! Cutting edge—for maybe five minutes in 1997. Everything is gloriously brown, because who needs…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Underrated gem it's an good game despite it's flaws.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Hours wasted with dgVoodoo2.81.1, elishacloud dxwrapper, and other proposed solutions. Starts ok with dgVoodoo2, but when looking to the sides in the train, the screen shakes like crazy, and Caleb drops halfway throught the floor. Unplayable. Anyway, couldn't finish it when it came out and a couple tries more through the years, as it was a mediocre game. Blood 1 instead, is deservedly a favorite of mine.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is, indeed, jank. I oddly enjoy it. ♥♥♥♥ GT interactive for pushing this game out the toaster early. RIP Monolith. I suggest just buying Blood from GOG or Refreshed Supply.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →fun game bought on sale old school shooter but have had so many bugs and crashing so dont get it
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This place is not a place of honor... no highly esteemed deed is commemorated here... nothing valued is here.

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →"You're going to want a seat-belt for this experience, because you're going to be thinking about hanging yourself, an awful lot."
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The game is by circumstance half-baked but there's a lot to appreciate despite that. The map locations are good but sometimes slightly cryptic and are reused and poorly connected to each other thematically. There's a good selection of guns with usability ranging from awesome to useless. The humor, atmosphere and gory shooting are great if you can look past the technical difficulties and poor balancing. The difficulty is all over the place, with normal difficulty being really hard and easy being…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →this game amazes me because every time i try to play it its broken in a different way.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Completely unplayable on Windows 10. I tried several fixes and none made this game playable. It either had a terrible framerate jumping up and down making it unplayable or, using other fixes, it run fine but crashed literally a dozen seconds after starting the actual gameplay. I love the first Blood and I really wanted to try this one, even though people say it's terrible, but I'm simple unable to play it.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →i literally didn't know this had a sequel, and when i got it it was for A Buck, 1 dollar for a game, im glad its not sucky, i mean its old but who cares, its doom with a horror paint job, on steroids, but unlike doom 3, its awesome
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I loved the game back in the day, but it just continuously crashes on a modern system.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →After trying several different resources to get this game to run in even the crudest of forms, it simply does not achieve any sort of playable situation or operate at a basic usable level in modern systems.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →even with DgVoodoo2 with best possible fixes and you finally get it to work on modern machine with little to no crashes, there still more things going on with this game, is just really really bad..... the mouse jitter like crazy, the gameplay is shallow and boring, and... face hugger
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Blood II is notorious for being nearly impossible to play because of poor PC optimization. These days 99% of games will play if you have compatibility mode enabled on Windows, but not this one. I have three copies of this game including the Steam one and they all suffer from the horrible inability to predictably load without crashing. Weirdly enough, it's not a single problem that stops this game from running. There can be five or six problems, including the game not being able to find the "CD"…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →GT Interactive is dead, Monolith lives, again. Thanks for ruining Blood 2 GT, ♥♥♥♥ you. Edit: RIP Monolith
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I don't know why it says I only have 98 minutes played, I've got at least 10 hours in. This game is a major pain to get running, I managed to get it going on my old computer 9 years ago, and that was a pain in the ass to do. Now it seems most tutorials are either out of date, or may or may not work at all depending on your luck. This game is honestly no where near as good as the original anyways, and honestly it isn't even worth the hoops you have to jump through to play it, if you even can.…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Great old school FPS game, similar a bit to Quake and Duke Nukem 3D. Environment is destructable, almost every item can be destroyed. The game itself is of course very bloody, has nice locations, interesting enemies and awesome dark atmosphere, occult-themed. It's pretty long and so freaking HARD - even on medium difficulty. The game has many technical problems with modern hardware configurations and new operating systems, but yet they released it on steam without fix (damn you Atari). However,…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This was such a pain in the ass to get running and even if it ran well its such a crappy sequel to one of the finest shooters ever made with weird random damage output returning weapons feeling not as fun for some reason don't even get me started on the difficultly balancing or the piss taking short expansion I can't recommend this game at all just play Blood fresh supply.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Fun. Plus gorgeous, charming graphics, but it needs a remaster. It's almost unplayable, even with patches. Dunno how I managed to play this entirely two years ago.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Nightdive please remaster this
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Nightdive We need remaster for this old ♥♥♥♥. I remember last time ı played this year was 2015.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I dropped the game near the end of chapter 1. I figured it can't be that bad, right? Even if it doesnt live up to the first game, maybe it will have some redeeming qualities... right? Needless to say my optimism betrayed me. The gameplay is clunky and monotonous, with little to no depth and enemy variety, and aside from Caleb there is nothing that defines this as a Blood game. It's completely devoid of everything that made the original perfect and features a setting that just doesn't fit in…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Blood II: The Chosen + Expansion, developed by Monolith Productions and published by Atari, stands as one of the more ambitious yet polarizing sequels of the late 1990s. Following the cult success of the original Blood, which became a beloved classic for its blend of fast-paced carnage, dark humor, and horror atmosphere, the sequel had the difficult task of evolving a game that thrived on personality. Monolith’s decision to move away from the Build engine to their new in-house LithTech engine…
