unlabelledView post →After woes with piracy, terrible adaptations and bad contracts, Doyle was finally pleased with a Sherlock Holmes adaptation. Eille Norwood played Holmes in 45 shorts and 2 featured produced by the Stoll film company. The series is in the process of being restored.
unlabelledView post →#NowWatching Really enjoying these vintage Holmes movies. So atmospheric. #FilmSky #SherlockHolmes

WITHOUT A CLUE (1988) Dr John Watson (Ben Kingsley) as the brilliant detective who creates 'Sherlock Holmes' as a cover and hires a washed-up stage actor, Reginald Kincaid (Michael Caine), to pose as the brains of the operation. #filmsky
unlabelledView post →I made it my goal to make Gene Wilder my most watched actor of 2026. But then, I started watching the Basil Rathbone and Nigel Bruce Sherlock Holmes films, and now that is going to be difficult. 🤣 Movie 5 of #MurderMysteryMAYhem 2026.
unlabelledView post →Murder By Decree opened OTD in 1979. I love that Jack The Ripper's identity is confirmed on the anniversary of the most underrated Sherlock Holmes movie, where Holmes pursues Jack the Ripper.
unlabelledView post →3/ In a rare surviving film clip, Arthur Conan Doyle points directly to Joseph Bell as the inspiration for Sherlock Holmes. One man. One gesture. And yet Bell has remained in the shadows—until now.

unlabelledView post →It's finally up! I think I was the perfect age for Young Sherlock Holmes when it came out & it was truly a joy to chat with ILM legend Dennis Muren about the film 40 years later & the unique place it holds in the history of visual effects. www.ilm.com/young-sherlo...
unlabelledView post →Utterly fabulous 1929 Swedish movie poster for “Der Hund von Baskerville”, a German take on “Sherlock Holmes - The Hound of the Baskervilles”. Of the artist, I regret I know nothing.

unlabelledView post →I’ve baked some cinnamon rolls that have come out of the oven looking like an array of hats Guy Ritchie would choose for the henchmen in a Sherlock Holmes film.
unlabelledView post →As a Sherlock Holmes/Jack the Ripper movie completist, I checked out Detective Chinatown 1900 in a London cinema yesterday. I think I was the only non-Asian in a full house (several other screenings I looked up were sold out) which was also overwhelmingly young and female.

unlabelledView post →One of my favorite Sherlock Holmes films The House Of Fear 1945 is free to watch with no adds on my Crime playlist. unlabelledView post →Just started S1 and still trying to reconcile the fact that the brief for the character is Sherlock Holmes but the size of Zangief and they cast Tom Cruise in the movie?
unlabelledView post →Today's mail call! A long overdue purchase. Of all the tv and film adaptations of Sherlock Holmes, Jeremy Brett's series is my favorite.
unlabelledView post →Woke up a 5am in pain again. I tried reading, but my eyes were too bleary so I turned on an old Sherlock Holmes movie only to be reminded of how much I hate Nigel Bruce's Dr. Watson. The horror. The horror.
unlabelledView post →Tower Bridge under construction in 1889 (in colour) This is why Guy Ritchie's first Sherlock Holmes film was pretty accurate... as he used this as one of the reference images...
unlabelledView post →This is a thorough history of rights-holders' influence over (mostly) film adaptations of Sherlock Holmes. For folks excited about Sherlock in the public domain and free to be gay, I HIGHLY recommend "Watson's Sketchbook," by @leeknoxostertag.bsky.social mkobooks.bigcartel.com/product/wats...
unlabelledView post →It’s an astounding double premiere weekend in my household! First, the Star Trek Section 31 movie hits Paramount Plus tomorrow (I assisted the writer on the film). Then, Watson premieres on CBS Sunday night, and I was lucky to be a staff writer on this new take on the Sherlock Holmes mythology.
unlabelledView post →One very underrated Christmas movie? Young Sherlock Holmes. It's Christmassy, nasty in places, has an absolutely tremendous score, and it's where a lot of the feel of the first Harry Potter movie came from.
unlabelledView post →A supernatural thief vs the great detective in the 1900 comedy film SHERLOCK HOLMES BAFFLED. Holmes was canonically dead when this unauthorized film was made and would not be officially resurrected for three more years.
unlabelledView post →Meanwhile, apropos of absolutely nothing: it's a fabulous bit of film programming that goes from SHERLOCK HOLMES: INCIDENT AT VICTORIA FALLS (a 1992 Christopher Lee Holmes) to FISTS OF FURY. 🙂 ...Don't know who's running the UK satellite channel currenly branded "Together", but it works for me.

unlabelledView post →Books to film 📚=🎞️ The Hound of the Baskervilles by Arthur Conan Doyle was adapted to film more than any other Sherlock Holmes story. It was filmed notably in 1939 (w/Basil Rathbone) & 1959 (w/Peter Cushing). Also, the films use 3rd person vs Watson's 1st person narrative. 🕵🏻♂️🎻🔎 #filmsky #booksky

unlabelledView post →Young Sherlock Holmes is the best Holmes film ever made. I know the dialogue by heart in both English and Spanish, but I’d never seen it on the big screen. Thank you to @fwfilmfestival.bsky.social for bringing Nicholas Rowe and Sophie Ward (and a virtual Alan Cox) to Bristol.
unlabelledView post →It's weird that Quentin Tarantino never made a Sherlock Holmes movie. Maybe he doesn't know that the game is afoot.
unlabelledView post →It’s Patrick Gowers’ birthday. He was a brilliant choral, tv & film composer. He composed all the music for my favourite version of Sherlock Holmes, the Granada series starring Jeremy Brett. The superb violin-led theme tune set the tone immediately & exquisitely. youtu.be/-mmVjr4BoCk?...

unlabelledView post →Watched The Pearl of Death (1945), another Sherlock Holmes film. A bit by-the-numbers, except for the welcome presence of Rondo Hatton as The Creeper, who murders people by breaking their spines. So obviously that rules.
unlabelledView post →Watched Spider Woman (1943), a Sherlock Holmes movie with Basil Rathbone. These are always a blast but this one was especially good, with an exceedingly sinister Gale Sondergaard, and many spiders throughout.

unlabelledView post →Boy was killing off Rachel McAdams in the second SHERLOCK HOLMES film a mistake. Cheapened the whole character and cut off the most delightful way to off-balance a very cocky Sherlock.
