60 of 67 · most liked firstHas potential but needs a lot of work. I'll change my review if I feel like It's improved when I come back to play in a bit Melee is nearly pointless because enemies will just easily shoot you when you close distance. The only value is if you can dash in for a quick kill on an unaware enemy, or other melee combatants in order to save on ammo. Camera controls are really wonky, I feel like zooming in should adjust the angle more forward than it does because it feels like it reduces your…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →As of 10/25/25, Smells like abandoned. The Developer has released 2 other games and are currently pushing out more updates for that than this game. This game supposedly left EA in April of 2025. Since then, as early as 10/22/25, there has been updates to their other games and this game has not received any updates. Prior to leaving EA in April of 2025, the last update was November of 2024. The game feels incredibly... boring. Great idea that feels like the execution of it makes it lack in…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's a little fun, but there are a lot better top down shooters in terms of gameplay. For the extraction shooter aspect of this, there is not much depth at all, just accepting random procedural quests and taking your current gear into those quests. Here are the other reasons I won't keep playing this in the game's current state: - Controls can't be re-bound. - The camera only can be turned with RMB, and it is inverted: you are turning the world from your RMB point when you drag to turn the…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Fun top down looter/shooter, I hope it gets gamepad support this would be a perfect game for the Deck.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →They released update 0.3 back in 2024, then said "here you go, 1.0, out of early access". It is still version 0.3.1 but being sold at full price without any updates since 0.3 back in 2024. Game is abandoned and unfinished.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →EDIT 04/16/2025: I'm replaying the game to try to give the game another chance. I only played it for about an hour and so far and I'll probably keep updating this to showcase my thoughts as I go along. It seems the same. The crafting system seems to have been overhauled and appears that they've added new mission types that I don't remember seeing when I played. I haven't gotten much of a chance to check out the fresh content but now seeing that you have to get these keycards to try to fight the…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The gameloop is extremely short. I'm guessing the rarity tiers of the shells are there to keep you grinding, but you'll see most of the game in the first hour. I don't want to be too harsh, but there's just no meat here to chew into.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Pros: #1. The music is good (but it gets copyright claimed on YT) Cons: #1. Doesn't show you how many bullets you have left. #2. The enemies know where you are 100% of the time and they even shoot at you through the walls, so the enemies have x-ray vision #3. The enemies see you and can shoot at you from 3 screens away, which is 2 screens further than your field-of-vision even reaches #4. Basically no tutorial at all. #5. I found 8 bugs in the first 30minutes. #6. The game is for sale in…

I cover a wide range of genres both paid and unpaid, providing unbiased opinions as well as regular giveaway events. Feels severely lacking It's your average loot and shooter/stabber. You have a lot of EA promise here for a game as simple as this one, but it's just not fun because of the numerous faults with the AI where you will often times just be taking a lot of damage offscreen no matter…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game has potential, but the main problem i see is enemies shooting from off screen, leading to using m and zooming out being the most effective way to fight. I look forward to future updates, but as it stands I wouldn't play.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →When i read the early access reviews i tell myself: okay, it is still in development Now that i play it in a "finished state": same problem, same bugs, annoying and still unfinished It is not worth it if this is the what it is suppose to look like with some adjustments
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I bought this on sale, but after playing for few hours, I couldn't find enough reasons to continue, while there're others better. It lacks of unique elements, or depth. I just.. not addicted to this like Duckov, Arc Raiders, Zero Sievert, Tarkov etc. I don't know the exact reasons, but here's the cons that personally bother me: - No right click to aim. In stead it's constant aiming but the accuracy feels like hip firing - No option to reverse camera rotation. Double right click feel clumsy…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Sry, but with all due respect: This is not an Early Access title, this is a half-baked idea, a bunch of overused Synty assets and some badly implemented tutorials; all stuffed into a trench coat, trying to pose as a game. Between counter intuitive GUI, AI bots that will always know exactly where you are but then try to shoot you through the wall instead of going around and basically no QoL whatsoever, this "game" makes me want to request a refund not only for the money, but also for the time.…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I am one of 7.1% of players who have unlocked the achievement for killing 100 enemies. I have played for 1 hour. Devs, that metric should tell you a lot. I'm just going to list my issues with the game in no particular order. Devs, please consider changing things around based on this feedback. The game crashed on first launch and I had to restart my PC because it wouldn't force quit. Aside from that, The game is almost engaging, there's just something about it that isn't grabbing my attention.…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Dont Buy Until Its Out. So much under cooked. Boss in multiplayer heal to full if the host dies. Enemy's with a shot gun will 1 hit you. Also Barracuda Will be focused on someone else and then one shot kill you if your 10 feet near him while he is low health Just to name a few. it could be fun if it was fixed.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A game with potential. Apart from a few bugs, balancing and AI problems, which I simply blame on the early access status, the game is really fun. The mix of cyberpunk look and game mechanics from “Escape From Tarkov” really makes me want to play more. I can't wait for the final release.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →very promising early access game! The Combat is difficult but not too hard to master, from the first glimpses there seems to be quite a bit of variety in the shells you can choose, weapons and build as well as enemies are plenty and challenging. Im Excited to see where Shell Runner will go! definitly recommend it for players who like the top-top down experience and/or cyberpunk vibes
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This abandoned crap is utter ♥♥♥♥. Don't waste your money
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →it's hard to actually say that i don't recommend Shell Runners because it has a solid foundation, it is just missing the flavor a little bit of story can offer. the base game is pretty fun, but progression gets slow without adding any new challenges after the first zone. you keep repeating the same mission types while grinding to upgrade your preferred items and shells. the game is not too difficult once you get the hang of it, and some of the bosses are easy to cheese. there isn't really any…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Filled with bugs, multiplayer missions barely works half of the time, gameplay loop get boring after the first district clear cause its just the same thing over and over. i wouldnt recommend it in its current state but hopefully with more fixes maybe it could change
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Going into menu doesn't pause the game, so you will die if you need to go AFK during a mission. Same for inventory management - it covers all of your screen but doesn't pause, so you get hit by random wandering enemies while trying to make sense of all the google-translated item descriptions.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The PvE action is intense, the graphics are stunning and the atmosphere is pure cyberpunk gold. A must-play for cyberpunk and shooter fans alike!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The game was fun for a little bit in the early build but now the enemies AI is kinda broken where they have gods eyes and see you off screen and if aggro they see you thru walls and the melee is kinda useless. The random generate stages are kinda busted too where some stages got a just the amount of enemies or just flooded with a army of bad guys. I had a 2 star mission where i spawn in the center was surrounded with a least 30 enemies and the 5 enemies that was a front of my door all had smgs…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →You need to make the game actually pause when you're in your inventory. I've lost such good equipment because someone sneaks up while I'm fitting things in my inventory. That is beyond stupid and infuriating dying in such a bs way and losing everything every time.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Good music, and seems that the gameplay loop will be fun once it's got more on the bones. I was looking forward to this but unfortunately enemies spraying me from off screen, weapons sounding identical with not much between them and a lack of impact for weapons/unsatisfying feedback on enemy kills kinda pushed me away. Definitely a give them some time to progress deal atm.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Needs work (it's in its eaaarrrly infancy so that's understandable). Recommend because it's a good concept and a slightly different take on games like Warframe which I enjoy. Hopefully the devs are eager to continue working on this, I'd hate to see this be abandoned.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →As it stands and what little I've played, Shell Runner is full of potential. I will change my review in the future if I believe this game is worth the asking price. However, with how gunplay and melee feel and how each box of ammo takes up majority of slots, along with the first boss fight you deal with regenerating HP at ludicrous levels, one has to wonder if the devs play tested Barracuda before releasing. That being said, we are in a practical playtest. This stage of development exists for…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →so fun to play! needed some time to understand how healing and grenades work xD the missions are challenging and i really love l.a.n.a. and her feisty sense of humor! reminds me of the a.i. in portal
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Really nice little game. I dig the extraction shooter cyberpunk aesthetics and have enjoyed it in single player. Things to polish the game/sequel: -Incorporate a crouch mechanic (like the Ascent) so one can still shoot behind cover -Show ability cooldowns more prominently, like have the ability countdown icon transparent around the player -Ability to pause or slo-mo in single player -When changing camera (double right-click), keep the cursor facing forward, instead of staying where the cursor…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Good game. Needs a bit more content or a different mode.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →game has a great feel but i feel it would've been better as a twin stick shooter with the laser sight mechanic rather then mouse and keyboard. regardless im hooked already and it seems like its gonna be alot of fun.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Tbh needs more time in the oven. Picked it up with my friend, did the solo tutorial mission then grouped up and thats when glitches started in. The two main ones that had me putting it down; I was player 2 joining my friends game and sometimes my character would freeze in place, I could still shoot enemies with no latency and enemies could hit me with no latency but I couldn't move, no idea what was causing that. Second, on occasion lootable objects would duplicate, I'd go to loot it, and…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →do not buy until it has gamepad support!!!!!!!!
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Very much in progress. Cannot recommend the game as is. The crosshair is off and will shoot to the upper right of the crosshair. As others may have mentioned, enemies off-screen can shoot you, and loot isn't very exciting.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The game is overall good for most games in the Cyberpunk genre. However, what is bothersome is that enemies can attack you off-screen and that you lose your purchased items after each death. This makes the gameplay lose its fun at some point, at least in the early stages of the game. Pros: The idea behind the gameplay on which the game is based Early access, so they can respond well to feedback Variety of weapons The music Cons: Enemies attack you off-screen, and you can only prevent it You…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I am really excited to see and play the development of this game! I really enjoy the fluid combat and movement :)
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is absolutely fun. Takes awhile to get use to the panning camera movement and manual reloading your weapons, but the game-play is smooth and the music is fire.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →shooting mechanics are lackluster and not very fun
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →its fun. tho needs some work. level design is a bit of the same in every level. missions are all the same feel to it. in a few updates and content added it wil be a good game worth a try
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →currently needs lots of work, waiting to see before I change the review.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Has a lot of potential to be a fun extraction shooter.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Already had a lot of fun.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is a hard one and provides a nice challenge, would be nice to tweak game play variables later on though. I also hope it gets controller support soon as that would make it much better to play. Until then it would be at least nice if there was keybinding or different keyboard / mouse layouts. For instance, I would rather get rid of the zoom and have the mouse scroll wheel switch weapons.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Bad guys can shoot you while they're offscreen. That's just poor gameplay - the camera should really be helping the player, not hindering it. Perhaps extrapolate the camera a bit forward between the pointer and the character? 'cuz otherwise, you're just going to get plinked by off-screen duders forever. There seems to be missing audio components too. At least, swinging a melee weapon is soundless, and it really shouldn't be. The shots don't feel like they're aiming right. That is a little…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Great movement. Near perfect progression. Have had a few crashes, but when this happens I load back in and have my gear. Co-op works great with the only issue being that the host gets game progression and you simply help. Would be nice to see controller support, but it’s a skill based top down shooter perfect game for an Azeron Cyborg. Its a very nice balance between perma-death and constantly making progress.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Interesting art/graphic style, good sound and music, and very easy to pick up and play. Combat is straightforward enough, but the early shells are clearly very squishy! My primary concern at the moment is that the game is making my rig run very hot, which it certainly shouldn't.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Ich finde das spiel vom Konzept her sehr interessant. Gerade für zwischendurch eine willkommene Abwechslung.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Runs great on Steam Deck! Shell Runner is a challenging top-down shooter set in a cyberpunk-style future, where you pilot replicants (shells) and complete contract crime missions—extraction, elimination, and more. There's a wide variety of gadgets, weapons, and skills to experiment with. While the game is challenging, it's also a lot of fun and well worth persevering past the first half hour or so. There's a steep initial learning curve, and unfortunately the tutorial doesn't do a great job…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →has a few pretty bad bugs but the overall gameplay and progression is serviceable. the top down twin stick extraction shooter concept is cool.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Pretty Nice game as a rogue like and fun to play around with in terms of weapons and mods
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A roguelite with no variety or progression and bad core gameplay. Generic samey weapons, no in-mission upgrades, annoying loot/crafting system, bad gunplay, no real progression, no variety from unlocks, all "upgrades" are minor stat boosts that do nothing to change how the game plays, buggy missions that frequently reward only partial or zero loot even on successful completion. Oh and if you die you lose everything you have equipped, including any persistent loot you've dumped time into…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →My friend tried this game through Steam family sharing on my account so this is his review. Sadly made it much more palatable than it is. I will admit top-downs aren't usually my go to for games however I have started enjoying them a bit more. Visuals - 1 point The characters are expansive and impactful however the enemies are repetitive and after a few matches you seem to have seen all the variations available. The backgrounds are cyber-punkish and varied due to random map generation.…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I want to get my initial thoughts out there on this game before i invest more time into it but for the time being I'm giving it a thumbs up to support the game getting a future, but it needs work and could just as easily get the thumbs down ***FOR THOSE ON THE FENCE*** Don't get this game unless it is the type of game you want to support, I have no clue who the developers are or what they are doing to make games but if that's something you care about like AI or bulk assets do your own digging,…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I bought this on sale and can't wait to see how the developers fine tune this gem in the rough. I also only play with a gamepad. Fast negs/pos: No controller support - except for Legoshis' template = Thank you.! Currently the only way to functionally play on a gamepad. Buggy - updates often Hasn't quite bridged the gap in between kinetic and/or strategic game play - what's on offer is interesting Currently plays like Alien Breed, the aesthetic Neon chrome with the loot/extraction of the…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The controls are a bit laggy on my machine. So I honestly don't know if it's the game or my laptop. The music is a bit annoying (cyberpunk 2077 type ♥♥♥♥ without much variety.....). Game play is kind of cool.. The camera gimmick barely help tbh... Yet it's still challenging.. Well it is in early access..
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Extraction shooter full of bugs. Said early access, but we expected the game to work & to be honest, the extraction aspect sucks when people crash & lose their stuff. Not for me, but maybe you’ll like making your day less enjoyable.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's like Synthetik, but with tedious inventory management.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Nice game to spend several hours. Lacks content, mechanics and variety. Shotguns are useless, since they can't oneshot targets on melee distance. Melee weapons gameplay almost dead because enemies with guns can always track your movements and if you tp through the wall to kill them, they immediately(without a slightest delay) start to shoot you. Upgrade resources could be unlimitedely obtained through the shop by completing item quests along with rerolls. Game needs a different mechanic for…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I am 20 hours into the game, and it’s still fun. The movement feels juicy and upgrading weapons feels rewarding. The soundtrack is fitting, and the Art style feels unique. At first, I needed to get used to the mechanics of the game, but now I feel quite comfortable. The game still needs bugfixes, balancing and polish, but I see quite some potential here and I would even recommend it in its current state.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Great game, still very bare. A lot of fun, probably close to 10 hours of enjoyment out of the game for serious players. A+ for early access, requires more bosses, mechanics, mobs, mission areas. I like where this is going.
