positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →[url=https://store.steampowered.com/curator/38888018-United-Critics/] Please follow United Critics for quality reviews Shattered Tale of the Forgotten King Review Shattered - Tale of the Forgotten King (STotFK) is an open world-ish RPG that is heavily inspired by the souls-like games made by Fromsoftware. Like any souls-like game, this game has a dense and obtuse story and lore that makes it really hard to describe what is happening in the game and even less why it is happening… But basically…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Huge disappointment this was. Graphics seem great, love the art style, lore is decent, everything else falls short. First of all the combat, boring throughout, very monotonous, changing weapons should feel impactful but doesn't, and there's like 5 types of mobs the entire game plus 3-4 bosses who mostly do the same as the previous one ,huge snooze fest. Then the swaps between 3d and 2d platformer, just why would you?! The great open world is meant to Woah! you but doesn't because it is…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Well, i`ll be honest. Game has it`s own beauty, its good for it`s approach, but the fact we can only level up in one specific place and this makes either you delay risking losing all your progress or having to back track...which makes gameplay slow AF made me drop this. The biggest issue is LACK of quality of Life. So if this doesnt bothers ya going in circles A LOT. Give it a try. but for me, it's a NO.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Did I have fun with this game? Yes. Does that make it a good game? Not neccessarily. Pros: *Gorgeous design and breathtaking world *Brilliant level design, lots of interconnectivity and clever platforming sections. As a rule: if something kinda looks like it could maybe be a path somewhere? It's absolutely a path and there will be something at the end. *Lots of secrets to find *Solid game, I only encountered one glitch, and not a gamebreaking one *Memorable bosses, but simple enough…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →55% of player did not finish the tutorial of this game. 78% did not beat the first boss. There are many reasons for that. While the artistic direction/ character design are by far the best aspect, all the others (and I mean all of them) are sub part. Platform sequences are are unjoyable and bring nothing. The world building is untentionally blur and to me, poorly done. The level design is average at best. The writting is not worth reading. That could have been excused if the gameplay with…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Seeing a lot of negative reviews, sadly putting this game just and just into "mixed" tier, most of the negative reviews do have valid criticism of the negatives this game has, but I urge you especially on the 2025 summer sale in which the game only costs 2.50€, I urge you to give it a try. Keep your expectations in check when going in, but when you accept that this game is a product of a passionate team that took a tad bit too large of a challenge to create a game this size, you will find a lot…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I went into this hoping to love it. Unfortunately, while some aspects are great, there are serious flaws that bring this game down in a massive way. Pros: - interesting lore - very cool visuals and aesthetic Cons: - enemy design is sorely lacking, almost every enemy is a variation of one particular type - the first section before you get to the open world is a bit too large in my opinion and starts feeling repetitive - awkward and unresponsive controls sometimes, especially in fights. Your…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Baffling. Simply baffling that this game has “mixed” reviews. I would understand “mostly positive” because of some jankiness and simple combat, but “mixed” is just disrespectful. There are some games that you can tell are made by gamers first and artists/storytellers second, and some games that are the opposite. This is most certainly an artist first game. The lore is incredibly deep and intriguing, the art direction is top notch, and the world itself is well put together. But the moment to…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A proof that nice art design can not overweight deeprooted gamedesign flaws. The game starts as a clunky and unpolished wanna be soulslike, burrowing all the genre staples, like bonfires, interconnected shortcuts, sprawling levels and stamina-control fighting, and though a bit janky and superficial, due to original and beautiful setting, engaging. That all goes down the drain with fundamentally flawed gamedesign choices, first of which is fixed-camera platforming sections, that become more and…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Is it perfect? No. This game isn't great for your typical souls-like fan. There's not a huge variety of combat and there's only so many different kinds of enemies, and you'll have seen almost all of them by the time you get to the first major boss. The weapons all swing the same, just at different speeds (due to real life limitations) There ARE still a few bugs, though I've not run into any that are game breaking, just odd. Also, Please note that reviews before June 24th are talking…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Ok, after playing an additional 18 hours of this, and being on track to finish the game i feel the need to rewrite this review. Originally i did not recommend this because the irksome 2d sections which did nothing but aggrevate me by forcefully locking the camera. and then comming to the open world section that really tanked my FPS to below 50 on a high end system that ran everything on a sweet 144fps till then. those grievances still stand, and luckily after playing the open world some more,…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →TL;DR: If you have ever wonder what was beyond the grassy hills background in old Windows, or in the glowy buildings in Tron, you will love this. If you enjoy exploring and trying to break games, this is a must If you are going to compare it to Elden Ring… Probably wont like it I think this is an amazing game. I think it is everything people complain triple A games lack nowadays. It has a soul to it, each level is beautifully crafted by someone with a passion for these games. Exploration…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →while the game is touted by some as a "souls-like" i'd rather call it an arpg with tiny souls-mechanics. combat plays similiarly and you also lose your "currency" when killed by an enemy (and you need to grab it or it disappears), and you also reset mob-spawns at "checkpoints". you can upgrade your weapons and you got health, stamina and enegry (mana) and a dodge+parry. but unlike souls the focus is definitly on exploration, lore and plot. combat is functional. it sometimes feels kinda clunky,…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is trying too hard to be so many different things. It wants to be a souls like but the story is just to obscure and meaningless with too many text dumps. It wants to be an open world game but takes 5 hours to get to the open world part. It wants to be a platformer where it takes away your ability to move the camera in certain sections to make it more difficult to jump around. It's trying too hard to be too many things and failing at all of them. Every time you unlock a shortcut, you…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Dark, dingy and rich with story lore. Not too many creatures to combat or parry with, but plenty of places to platform and explore, puzzles to solve and secrets to find. moody but not too hardcore https://youtu.be/bkpI-xQxHEc
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I gave it an honest shot. The art, visuals, and lore are great and well thought-out, as well as the level design and connectivity, but a lot of the rest of the game is lacking. It feels like there are hardly any enemies to fight. Barely any music. The platforming sections ruined it for me, frequent insta-death caused by player collision. Something in the combat itself was missing for me, I think it just wasn't satisfying to hit things. I love the environment and world-building, I just wish…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's not a terrible game, but there are too many issues with it for me to be able to recommend it. The art style and aesthetics are cool. The combat is fine when it works, and while the 2D/platforming aspects may not be for everyone, I personally find it interesting and unique. But the game just feels very unpolished and incomplete. I'm less than 3 hours into the game and I've already found several consistent movement bugs that should have been instantly discovered and fixed on the very first…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Overall Review, plus how I found this game (skip this section if you just want to know details about this game) So, I discovered this game by accident (kinda), when going through list of all soulslikes to know how many games it would take to beat each and every one of them. I usually get to games because I like their soundtrack, so I was listening to soundtracks of all the 39 soulslikes (I didn't count the souls/metroidvanias and souls/roguelikes), and couldn't find soundtrack for this one,…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Honestly the game was alright, except that after i sunk a lot of exploration time in, one of the items i need to finish the game is bugged out, and there's no way i'm starting a new save file Is it worth the buy? Maybe on a discount
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The Gameplay: The core elements - platforming, dodge-and-parry combat, exploration, and leveling - have potential, but their integration feels clunky. Like oil and water, they function independently but never truly gel. Expect a mediocre Soulslike experience with some platforming thrown in. The Story: The narrative is the game's biggest weakness. Enigmatic dialogue borders on nonsensical, resembling a jumbled mess of abstract concepts lacking any meaningful connection. From what can be…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Try this game if you enjoy the sense of exploration of Dark Souls and Supraland. Even though the combat, animations, enemy behaviour and positioning really need more polishing, it's still impressive what the devs achieved given their small size.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I love the art style, the overall design, worldbuilding, and level design. Many areas simply blew me away, visually. However, the combat is incredibly basic and the enemy variety is almost nonexistent. The exploration, while visually interesting, did not feel very rewarding from a gameplay perspective; usually a small essence item (currency) or more weapon upgrade materials (you will quickly have more than you want/need). I wouldn't mind seeing a sequel (especially if the art team has more…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The story and lore is incredibly complicated and convoluted but you'll piece it together as you play and its quite cool once you understand it. I'm having fun and the visuals are awesome, some of the best character designs I've ever seen, the level design is great too, lots of shortcuts and secrets. Rough around the edges but a great foundation with alot of love behind it. The only thing thats annoyed me has been the 2.5D parts as I found it hard to judge where I was, the ability to switch…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Let's start by saying that Shattered - Tale of the Forgotten king is one of the best souls inspired games that I have played so far. I am normally a bit concerned about "souls inspired" games as they tend to replicate not only the good stuff but also the bad stuff of the "souls games". It is also quite difficult to innovate and introduce new game mechanics that complement the "souls ones" in a good way. I think that this games manages to do so. You will find yourself in a big world that you…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The combat is not as good as it should be for a souls like, but the level design is very good. I really enjoy the world building and overall visuals, I never thought data-fantasy was something i wanted until i saw this game. Please give this game a shot if you see it on sale, it is full of performance issues and bugs that can get frustrating at times and will leave you feeling cheated if you buy it full price. Despite the bugs and mediocre combat, its one of my personal favorite games to come…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →An eclectic mix of different old school ARPGs & "Soul Reaver-esque/ Souls-style" combat, with hauntingly captivating landscapes reminiscent of Shadow of the Colossus. A hidden gem if I ever found one.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Terrible game, many issues with keyboard key bindings.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's a beautiful game, the atmosphere is great, nice music, but it's glitchy and clunky. Exploration is exciting when it works: it's hard to know where you can go and where you can't, resulting in many death from "falling" to your death, although sometimes you have not even fallen at all. So yeah, a game crafted with love, but just too clunky and buggy to recommend.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Sticky and dull. I know it's indie, it's cheap when on special but just better stuff to play.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Short version: Buggy controls, terrible AI, repetetive af, very weak bosses, the souls like things you get dissapear randomly or don't dissapear on death, conclusion: I'm 90% sure this is a school project. The game feels like a school project, assets inside other assets, jump constantly becomes an attack and you have to rebind it in settings to make it work as a jump again for a minute before it becomes an attack again... Same with sprint, it became a attack, why? Did you not fix bugs?…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The side scrolling sections kills the fun.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Reallllllllly confusingly bad performance for the visual fidelity that this game brings. I know I literally just started, but I'm worried this is another case of UE5 crunch without any optimization. Will update as soon as I have literally any other opinion. Played a bit more and I have to agree with the criticism of the forced perspective platforming segments. If this game was a student project I would understand why it feels so jumbled together, but it's not. So I'm struggling to understand…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Finished the game and had a lot of fun with it. The exploration and platforming is quite fun, though unfortunately the combat is not very satisfying. FYI, there are infinite use items that can teleport you back to home base, and one that returns you to your last used checkpoint / bonfire. You'll have a bad time if you don't notice these. Also make sure you pick up the hoverboard when you first exit to the large outdoors area.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I'll be honest this is easily the second worst soulslike I've played. Mainly because the gameplay is awkwardly slow with this rhythm of stop, then go, stop, now go again. Then again I'm still only in the starting area so these are my first impressions so it could get better, so I'll be giving it more time & will update this if my opinion changes
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Maybe my expectations are too high, but I would not recommend this game at the moment. There is still a lot to be done before this game is playable. + artwork amazing + combat and movement - too easy to get stuck. 4 times already in 3 hours of playtime - some places are too dark, can't see next jumping point - part of the story is a little bit too confusing even if you consider that in the end it might make sense - descriptions for items explain nothing and can't understand if…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Overall i had a very great time with Shattered - Tale of the Forgotten king, the game has a lot of good points for itself, easily one of the best souls like i played regarding world building and art direction. If i needed to describe it, i would say that it is an excellent surprise ! And surprises come more and more as you progress through the game. The art direction is fabulous, you will encounter a variety of landscape, cities and otherworldly places that actually felt REALLY otherworldly.…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Weird case of a game where it does the easy things poorly, but the hard things well. If you like soulslikes because of combat, you probably wont like this, but if you enjoy soulslikes because of lore, atmosphere and exploration, you should absolutely give this a try.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →There some interesting bits here and there, separated by *vast* stretches of nothingness, boredom and repetition. The game also discourages exploration by putting loot in places that look exactly the same as dozens (if not hundreds) of paths that lead to nothing. I could list at least a dozen problems (check other reviews) but honestly it doesn't matter. At the end of the day the gameplay is not fun and the world/story is not engaging (or not well told/paced, whatever). I almost always finish…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Shattered is a game I REALLY wanted to like, and I did at the start. The main problem is this game just tries to do too much while still feeling like an early access release. Game breaking bugs included. Initially this comes off like a technological gothic story abut being trapped in a destroyed purgatory and being on a quest to find the missing King. As it progresses, you are forced into camera locked Crash Bandicoot-style side-scrolling platforming segments that break the atmosphere. What…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →How can this game have mixed reviews? How come is this game not more talked about? How can people miss this gem? Wtf world. This is an incredibly well crafted game for those who enjoy rpg layered with mystery and secret lore. You can make mistakes, but you learn about where you are at. I will update my review with more details once I have completed the game. This is a hidden gem. Amazing work Redlock Studios. I'm playing this before giving Hypnos a try.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →the game was so close to being good. it has great art direction and combat feels good but through some bad design choices it ultimately falls on the not recommended side for me. mainly annoying platforming, camera control an boss fights are my disliked aspects. maybe buy it for a step discount and dont aim to finish it
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Its okay, the story is good, the parkour not that uniqe, the dialog is good. Overall i enjoyed it however i did buy it on sale for half the price. I would recomend
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Was a fun journey, very nice looking game.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →they want to be fromsoft so bad they forget what makes dark souls or sekiro successful just buy sekiro or lies of p please, the negative reviews are right
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →You need to indicate to pick up the sword at the beginning. You need to increase the size tool tips for the pickups. You need to make the pickups more visible. WTAF. I know you know where they are. I do not. I spent 20 minutes changing the settings on my controllers and switching them out. Decided oh it probably is just not working well with controllers. I will user the keyboard. Still no attack. Had to look on the forums to see I needed to pick up the sword. Which apparently is not…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →sped up the process a bit since the game was starting to bug and crash...so i have mixed feelings. im gonna keep it positive since the game was ambitious, the bosses were pretty cool as well as the world, and the parrying becomes easy once you get the timing down for all the enmies. they don't vary a ton, and neither do the bosses. the platforming was decent but confusing at times as well. the combat was okay, decently polished overall. the music was relaxing and the world looked really good. i…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Random, empty and with bad composition it feels like generated by an AI. But for its music and several hours of interesting exploration it was well worth its 3 euro price. 6,5/10
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The art is epic. The play is not. Bug riddled and game breaking tears. I've since seen that it was a money grab that never got supported post launch. Unfortunate because the art and concepts are great.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →looks and feels unfinished
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I've not played a lot of souls-like games, but the game was quite fun and enjoyable. Lore was great and in-deapth (imo). The combat was ok for the most part, bar the backstab feature. Not a great variety of weapons, spells and enemies just the bare minimum. The stat upgrades felt luckluster/ the bare minimum. There were a few bugs here and there, like floating rocks, walls where you get stuck etc. (for me, even the last boss area was bugged and i wasn't able to go in for some reason).…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →If you enjoy grand spectacle and exploring breathtaking vistas with a moderate amount of fighting mixed in, Shattered: Tale of the Forgotten King is worth a look. Does it rise to the heights of Hollow Knight? No, but that’s a very high bar to clear. Does it give a mostly satisfying experience, well worth supporting the developers? I think so. TL;DR: Not perfect, but I have no regrets about the 30-odd hours I spent exploring the world and the story. Breakdown, The Good: Shattered…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I can't really recommend this. It wants very badly to be dark souls, but none of what makes Dark Souls special is here. The combat is extremely repetitive and boring, which is made all the worse by a frustratingly small enemy variety. The layout of the levels don't follow much rhyme or reason with some of the zones being cramped and tiny and other being a BotW open-worldness. The game doesn't really know what it wants to be, so it doesn't do anything great, but it does a couple okay. If I had…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Honestly pretty enjoyable game despite the jank and roughness. I actually enjoyed the platforming sections, but I also like platforming in general. Overall the game is pretty easy, no boss took me more than 5 tries to beat (and I'm bad at Souls/Souls-like games). Music and aesthetics are very good and the story itself seemed pretty interesting. I'm looking forward to checking out the additional endings at some point in the future. The worst part is the hoverboard. It's worse than the…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →this game is SO CLOSE from being very good, but falls short in alot of little ways that make me not like the game. (have not beat at the time of review and dont know if will) First this will not contain spoilers only for the first boss that is the guilty one (you can see them in the photos for the game) let me first start out by saying the things i love about this game. in the tutorial it gives enough info for you to then experiment with other combos and movement styles. the combat is good…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →As a fan of Dark Souls and Soulslikes in general, Shattered definitely scratches that itch. Quick parry, shoulder button attacking, exploitable dodging, etc. The aesthetic choices in this game are on point, with incredible character designs and artwork. There are some issues with platforming, and being able to tell where you should drop down to- and which falls are meant to kill you. But that's the only complaint I have so far- other than Ras'Samrah can eat a rotten banana.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Visually stunning.. . I wanted to like this game so much but the fighting mechanics are so uncomfortable. :< that and some of the 2D platform forced views threw me off.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Parts of Shattered: Tale of the Forgotten King show that the developers have some potential, but this end product is not something I could recommend to people. I think that the developers bit off more than they could chew, which is the game's downfall. The game starts off with you waking up in a circular room and you start exploring to figure out where you are. Your protagonist doesn't have a voice so you mainly choose physical yes-or-no actions when talking to most NPCs, with a small…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game doesn't start strong. The first few areas feel kinda unpolished and the forced side scroller thing is pretty annoying, its also broken as hell, your constantly going off in different directions finding you can just walk through constructs or falling through the floor. Once you get out into the open world though it gets pretty interesting. The combat goes form being stiff to a bit more tactical, theres enough to explore without feeling like your just collecting unless crap. This…
