Shanghai Noon
Chon Wang, a clumsy imperial guard, trails Princess Pei Pei when she's kidnapped from the Forbidden City and transported to America. Wang follows her captors to Nevada, where he teams up with an unlikely partner, outcast outlaw Roy O'Bannon, and tries to spring the princess from her imprisonment. From TMDB

unlabelledView post →What was the last good movie Jackie Chan starred in? Not a cameo or a voice role, I mean he was the star of the film. I've got a line in my script that he hasn't starred in a good movie since 2000's Shanghai Noon, but I feel like I must be overlooking something...
unlabelledView post →I watched Shanghai Noon recently (the movie where Jackie Chan is a Chinese cowboy called "Chon Wang") and it got me thinking, there's such an interesting alt history there if the US was just a bit less racist
unlabelledView post →As everything is super-grim today, please enjoy this fun fact: despite being a film critic, it took me about nine solid months to realise SHANGHAI NOON was a play on HIGH NOON.
unlabelledView post →Owen Wilson in BOTTLE ROCKET talks about Starsky and Hutch and then went on to play Hutch in a movie version; in SHANGHAI NOON, he plays a western outlaw and then a year later in THE ROYAL TENENBAUMS plays a city kid who cosplays as a western type.
unlabelledView post →If just one of those kids had seen the Jackie Chan film Shanghai Noon, they would have known how to do that with a piss-soaked t-shirt. I blame the parents.

unlabelledView post →17. Shanghai Noon (2000 movie) I'mma just say that Jackie Chan's chemistry with Owen Wilson is just as great as his chemistry with Chris Tucker (though the later is still superior imo). It's just a super fun movie even if some elements are hardly used in said movie. 4/5
unlabelledView post →I was today years old when I realised that Shanghai Noon has "high noon" in the title. That's such a good movie title!
unlabelledView post →I remember reading a review of the Owen Wilson/Jackie Chan movie Shanghai Noon that said Wilson couldn't be more anachronistic if he were wearing a Hoobastank shirt and talking on a cell phone. That's the vibe I get from Denzel in the ads. Can't wait to see it.
unlabelledView post →When I was in college a bunch of us went of see SHANGHAI NOON. Mostly empty theater. When the credits started, an usher came out and was like "hey do you want to stick around for a free test-showing of this other movie?" It was BATTLEFIELD EARTH, and it was fucking _hilarious_.
unlabelledView post →I keep having a dream where I have an overdue movie from Blockbuster just sort of sitting around. I think the movie is Shanghai Noon but I will need to check next time I dream about it.

unlabelledView post →amusingly Jackie Chan martial arts comedies were very specifically a kind of movie my dad thought was respectable and showed me all the time he thought Shanghai Noon was GENIUS
unlabelledView post →Loved that one when it came out. While we're at it, honorable mention for Shanghai Noon. The Kung Fu elements are more diluted compared to much that's on this list, but it's a delightful film (and was my introduction to Owen Wilson -- he and Jackie make an excellent duo).
unlabelledView post →Shanghai Noon is such a great movie. :)
unlabelledView post →My hot take: Rush Hour was a shit movie for the lowest common denominator. Shanghai Noon was the superior film, with artistic heart, better action, and greater comedy.

unlabelledView post →I watched "Shanghai Noon" way too many times when I was young. When DVDs became popular, the local movie store was selling VHS tapes on the *cheap* (10 for $10 at some point), and I picked this one cuz I liked Jackie Chan. Watched it over and over again, especially during school breaks!
unlabelledView post →I do dance. Unrelated: have you ever seen the 2000s under rated cowboy buddy movie starring Jackie Chan and Owen Wilson titled: Shanghai Noon?

unlabelledView post →Shanghai Noon A million jokes about cowboy Lightning McQueen aside this was a really fun movie that fits as both a kung fu film and a Western. There's a bit of an annoyance with fitting all of its characters into the plot but that's far from ruining the experience. 4.5/5

unlabelledView post →I also love classic martial arts movies. I first became a Jackie Chan fan watching his American films (mostly Shanghai Noon tbh), and a few years ago I made an effort to watch more of his Hong Kong films. Miracles: The Canton Godfather was a revelation, a 10/10 movie, I adore it.
unlabelledView post →Any David Leitch movie. He’s quickly become one of my favorite action directors - brings a whole new focus to the genre when the director has experience as a stunt performer. Otherwise, I actually really like Shanghai Noon/Knights. I think it’s some of Jackie Chan’s best choreography.
unlabelledView post →Everyone was trying to find the right formula to mix wire-fu and Hong Kong choreography into movies in the US, like Shanghai Noon. Somebody got the notion that The Three Musketeers was a good candidate, and this movie was born.
unlabelledView post →Pick a movie, keep one actor, rest are Muppets: Who should be kept as human in "Shanghai Noon"?
unlabelledView post →Same goes for me, watched Shanghai Noon as a kid, loved it, but seeing him as Mobius made me realise I loved Owen more than Jackie in that movie, I've always had a soft spot for him 🥰
unlabelledView post →It’s really hard to make sense of the movie Shanghai Noon through a 2024 lens because the lady Jackie Chan accidentally marries has the most agency of any character in the film & is the most competent (Dea Ex Machinas him multiple times) but she’s also not named at all and credited as “Indian Wife”
