21 of 21 · most liked firstThe Prosecutor (2024 Donnie Yen) This movie blows. Other than about 20 minutes of action, which is decent, but not up to Twilight of the Warriors, Raging Fire or even Yen's previous directorial effort Sakra, you get poorly shot, poorly lit, poorly directed courtroom drama.
unlabelledView post →THE PROSECUTOR! Donnie Yen directs himself again in this corny, but energizing Hong Kong courtroom thriller/police procedural. More proof that, along with SAKRA, Yen's on a tear. (he's also good in his JOHN WICK 4 scenes) More in my @ebertvoices.bsky.social review: www.rogerebert.com/reviews/the-...
unlabelledView post →It’s been almost 2 years since Sakra (January 2023) and John Wick 4 (March 2023), so it feels great to finally get another Donnie Yen movie. And it looks epic!
unlabelledView post →Opening week for stunt coordinator/action director Kenji Tanigaki's big breakthrough THE FURIOUS. I singled out Tanigaki's contributions to Donnie Yen's recent directorial credits, SAKRA (www.rogerebert.com/reviews/sakr...) and THE PROSECUTOR (www.rogerebert.com/reviews/the-...).
unlabelledView post →Sakra is another throwback to classic 90s HK wuxia film, down to its messiness. For what it's worth, it does try to embrace the source material's more philosophical ruminations while being a straight up entertaining wire-fu romp.

unlabelledView post →Donnie Yen also recently directed himself in the pulpy 2023 wuxia crowdpleaser SAKRA, which is also good, so I’m reposting my @ebertvoices.bsky.social review: www.rogerebert.com/reviews/sakr...

unlabelledView post →Oh man, I don't even think The Prosecutor is half the film Sakra is even. The action is fine, but there's hardly any of it and the courtroom drama is unforgivably lame. Total copaganda too. It's going to be tough for this to not be as good.
unlabelledView post →Up too late watching the Hi-Yah FAST channel. Saw SAKRA (2023) and now EYE FOR AN EYE: THE BLIND SWORDSMAN (2022) for the first time. There's definitely a new breed of kung fu movie, that's for sure...
unlabelledView post →Yeah. Kenji uses wires in his action more for fast horizontal, low to ground movement rather than traditional wuxia vertical movement. You see examples of it in his work on the Rurouni Kenshin live action films. He did incorporate more of that vertical movement in Donnie’s wuxia film Sakra (2023).
unlabelledView post →Sorry, I should have clarified, his best directed movie is what I meant, but after seeing Sakra and Legend of the Wolf it is still bottom of the barrell.
unlabelledView post →Yo guess what I got from the mail today. The 2023 Hong Kong Wuxia Film Sakra. Based on the 1963 Hong Kong Wuxia Novel Demi Gods And Semi Devils created by Jin Yong (Gam Yung). Starring And Directed by Donnie Yen. #Sakra #天龍八部之喬峯傳 #DonnieYen #甄子丹 #HongKongWuxiaFilms #HongKongMartialArtsFilms
unlabelledView post →Also not surprised to see Kenji Tanigaki listed as the action director since he also choreographed the last HK martial arts movie that looked this good—Donnie Yen’s SAKRA!
unlabelledView post →I don't know that Sakra is a Good Movie™ and they're doing some weird in-camera smoothing facetune on Donnie Yen, but the fights are pretty good
unlabelledView post →Movie Night tonight on Discord is the 2023 Donnie Yen film, Sakra. Afterward, we're continuing to the next episode of Running Man, which is 131... only 559 to go! XD #Movies #MovieNight #Sakra #RunningMan
unlabelledView post →okay, so Sakra! the writing suffered from trying to fit way too much into one movie, but the action was cool, and I really liked the mostly-natural look when the kung fu powers came out. clearly an adaptation, even if (like me) you don't know the source. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_cnpdCdtU4M
unlabelledView post →Sakra is a really fun action film trapped within the confines of a convoluted melodrama which is mostly only worthwhile if you’re a hardcore fan of wuxia films or a Yen enthusiast. The martial arts legend has a strong on-screen presence and is as talented as ever when it comes to anything martial arts related, but Sakra drags its feet with its storytelling, meandering aimlessly between spurts of heavy action. neutral · AI labelView post →Sakra is a mixed bag at best. Well choreographed, martial arts action sequences, are "cut and pasted" into an inarticulate, meandering, disjointed film, with a weak, plot hole ridden, back story, derived from ancient Chinese folk lore, linked to the beggars clan. Donnie Yen and a larger cast of Hong Kong actors, can't save this film from its conspicuous shortcomings. In summary, this is a mediocre effort at best. Its moderately watchable but the dismal back story, combined with a general lack…
neutral · AI labelView post →Another mixed bag from Donnie Yen. While the martial arts and fight choreography are fun, the movie itself is boring and incoherent. It feels like a hundred episode TV drama cut into 2 hours of random clips. The amount of nonsense in this movie completely overshadows the good action scenes, which is disappointing.
