Resident Evil 3 Nemesis (1999)
Developer CAPCOM Co., Ltd., GOG.com
Resident Evil 3: Nemesis is a 1999 survival horror game developed and published by Capcom for the PlayStation. It takes place almost concurrently with the events of Resident Evil 2. The player controls the former elite agent Jill Valentine as she escapes from Raccoon City, which has been overrun by zombies. The game uses the same engine as its predecessors and features 3D models over pre-rendered backgrounds with… From Wikipedia (CC BY-SA 4.0)

What people are saying
Overwhelmingly positive, with players praising the original over its remake.
Players overwhelmingly praise the original Resident Evil 3: Nemesis as superior to its 2020 remake, citing cut content, a more threatening Nemesis, and better atmosphere. Many call it a timeless classic and one of the best survival horror games ever made. [7][9][10][11][15][16][23][26][28][31]
However, some players criticize the Steam port for lacking features like achievements, Steam overlay support, and proper controller configuration, and for including DRM. A few also note that the tank controls and fixed cameras may be challenging for newcomers. [2][4][6][21][22][33][34][35][36]

But is it actually a good choice considering everything which goes on underneath? The good part - there is now a chance to experience the original RE3, rather than the Remake which has some part of the content missing. Also, Mercenaries mode and all the costumes coming…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Finally, Classic 1999 RE3 is on steam. Every RE fan knows that this game is 10/10. Though it is not remastered, but Capcom allows us to set the screen resolution up to 4K. Tank control might be tough for young RE fans, but as a veteran fan, I LOVE IT! Nemesis: "STARS!"
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →ADD ACHIEVEMENTS, STEAM OVERLAY, AND REMOVE DRM Once this is completed, all will be right in the world. Edit: Best Resident Evil game. This game is great.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Yeah, I was excited for this... but after seeing it has DRM ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ and half the features of the Fan project/ GoG version. I have refunded it and gone and paid full price for it on GoG. QOL features are non existent, or dont actively work and you can suck the fattest and most flacid of ♥♥♥♥♥, if you are putting DRM in a 27 year old, single player game. Do not reccomend.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →One of the best games of all time This version has the 7 extra costumes and mercenaries mode You can change the resolution, enable anti aliasing, anisotropic filtering, fullscreen or windowed I don't see how to remap buttons, but it works fine with a controller. There doesn't seem to be a reset/options ingame menu though.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Add steam achievements!! atleast do something to make it different from the GOG version other than DRM. still a fun time either way but I want extra replayability
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →While it's good to finally see these brought to Steam, they just aren't in a state that a person should recommend buying. There seem to be a bunch of Reviews on here that lean more into the Nostalgia of the titles and convenience of having them available on their primary Platform. RE2 ran well, but RE3 seems to have a number of bugs that they are just going to openly refuse to work out. First there is a bug where the BGM, basically the game soundtrack, will bug out and play only the opening…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A perfect remake of the game "Resident Evil 3" released back in 2020. The graphics are a little lacking this time round, but they added way more content, the Nemesis is actually a threat, has his name in the title and and and, Jill doesn't just swear and curse all the time, making her more like here RE1 counterpart. I'm so glad for this remake, and for only a little above the price of the original as well. Thanks Capcom!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Quick review regarding Steamdeck compatibility ~ It appears to run smoothly, but it is not playable out of the box without changing your controller layout. Even after binding F1 to access the menu in game, there was no way I could find to rebind keys to their correct buttons. The control stick works, but there is no way to start a game, so I am unsure what other buttons work out of the box. My solution was to rebind buttons according to the predetermined keyboard layout (ex. the…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This port is a joke, they can't even let you use your own gamepad but they sure as hell will add DRM to an almost 30 year old game!
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →My opinion of the remake fell faster then the towers after I played this. You could make a convincing argument that the remakes of RE 1 or 2 are better than their original counterparts, but this is inarguably better to it's remake. Here's a short list of things this game has that 3 remake is lacking: - Nemesis shows up more, is tougher to defeat, and drops more unique items (Parts for fully new guns, etc.) - Fuller city streets section that you return to several times, complete with rewards for…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I swear I'm going to develop PTSD when I hear the word "Stars" It's an actual crime that so much content of this game was cut in the remake, the original is very non linear and difficult and has an immaculate vibe with its pre-rendered backgrounds. its a banger of a game.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →After playing the OG, it is indisputable that this game is infinitely better than the remake.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is a general review for all three classic Resident Evil games on Steam. I'm very thankful that these amazing games are finally available on the platform, they deserve to be more accessible. However, these ports unfortunately suffer the same issues as the Dino Crisis ports. DRM is forced onto you, making the games harder to run on the Steam Deck. Although, it is possible to configure them to get 'em running. RE2 and 3 are the easiest to work with, while RE1 still has a bug that (as far…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Capcom is adding DRM Enigma Protector to their back catalog of games. Prevents modding, cheat engine, and reduces performance by up to 10-15 fps with stutters. (Also Capcom being hostile to Valve's testing of their games for the Steam Deck makes them major ♥♥♥♥ heads while I'm at it) Go eff yourself, Capcom. I will not be buying future Biohazard titles due to you wanting to install Malware (hello…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →RE3 OG (1999) is far superior in every way to the terrible 2020 remake. I played the PS1 version back in the day and replaying the GOG port on Steam. RE3 OG is an amazing game especially with the HD Backgrounds, Character, and Menu Mods. I love the Clock Tower, Park, and Dead Factory. 10/10
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →prime jill and the better nemesis, this game is infinitely better than the remake.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I am being 100% sincere when I say this is better than the remake and one of the best resident evil games Not even an OG purist because I prefer the remakes of 1, 2 and 4 but 3 is different This is the best the of the old resident evil games and one of the greatest survival horror games ever released I think I said Capcom can have my life if they put this game on steam at one point so uhh....lets hope they dont come to collect on that
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I remember being 13 and terrified of the Nemesis popping out when I'd least expect it. Had to turn off my PlayStation a few times ('window' part, yes). Holds up after these 27 years much like the other two OG games do. The revisit of the atmosphere and ambiance of Racoon City is still just as amazing. Like the other OG RE games, it's been a fun ride replaying these all over again. It's also amazing how solid the music is also after all this time. Felt this was peak for RE back then even with…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The OG, a timeless classic and one of the best RE games out there, even better when combined with seamless hd and other community enhancements. RE3 1999 >>> RE3 REMAKE
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →As a new RE fan i can 100% say that you should play this over the remake. The tank controls are not that hard to get used to and its absolutely worth it to play the real Resident Evil 3.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I absolutely love this game. My 2nd favorite RE game, and IMO, the best of the first 3 OG games. If you’ve ever see comments made by the community about how the remake of 3 didn’t live up to the OG, then play this right here and see why. It’s criminal how much the remake cut compared to this game. There’s a good blend of action and puzzle solving. Being able to explore a good chunk of Raccoon city is great. The game has a really unique mechanic where you get to make a decision between two…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →September 28th. Daylight... The monsters have overtaken the city. Somehow... I'm still alive. Controls for the game Arrow keys to move S to draw weapon / Enter to shoot Z to open inventory / V to close it Enter to open and take items etc
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →you'd expect it to be extremely outdated, and it is, but its incredibly charming, and can hook you easily. tuff ass game
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →You want STARS? I'll give you STARS! I want to thank GOG for bringing the classic trilogy back to PC. The remakes are not as good as the originals in my opinion. Especially 3 having a lot of cut content, with the exception 1's remake (that was a wonderful remake) 2's remake is debatable, but I still prefer the original over the remake. Resident Evil 3 is my number 1 Resident Evil game of all time. I am glad I am able to play the original now legit on PC, with resulting to Abandonware. I…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I dislike fixed cameras in older games, so I went into the game dubious on if I would enjoy it. However, I ended up being wrong. Was easy to manage and wasn't janky at all like I was expecting with the movement. Had a fun time playing through the game, more enjoyable than RE3R, didn't feel hard to play plus the puzzles were easy to grasp. Was a shorter game, completing it in 8 hours but it is worth the price. Interesting to see the differences between RE3 and RE3R, which I can see what people…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I brought this as a way to show support as I loved playing it when it first came out and i was still at school and was excited to see it was coming back. But please for the love of the players add achievements. Devs can you please add achievements to the trilogy.............
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →When Resident Evil 3 originally released back in the stone age, some players felt like it was a rushed sequel and a disappointment compared to RE2, despite getting favorable reviews. Then, in 2020, Capcom released a remaster of this game that perfectly captured the feeling of the original by releasing a game that felt like a rushed sequel and a disappointment compared to REmake2, despite getting favorable reviews. Those son of a guns did it again with this port of Resident Evil 3. They managed…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →a really fun classic, even tho it doesnt offer any major improvements or modern graphics options... while it supports several different resolutions, i couldnt get the steam in game overlay to work no matter what. i also couldnt take screenshots or use anything that depends on the overlay. to get around that you need to install HD mods that also make the game fully compatible with steam, which is a shame. they couldve at least included that compatibility by default when releasing the game here.…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →If I had to recommend a single game out of the originals, this would be it. Resident Evil 1 had an amazing remaster. 2 had a great remake that didn't miss much. But the remake of 3, even though the gameplay was still great, had cut far too much content to be excusable. This is why.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is my favorite Resident Evil of all time and I will never forgive CAPCOM for wasting the potential its remake had due to greediness.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's not exactly a polished masterpiece, but its rough, unrefined tension gives it a unique edge, and even in 2026, its uneasy atmosphere still hits hard.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The OG RE3 blows the Remake out of the water. I played this on my PS1 for the first time years ago. I could tell they cut so much of the story out of the Remake, but my memory was a bit blurry. I've just finished the original, and can confidently tell the Remake misses so much story content from the original, and also is soulless. If you are okay with tank controls, buy the OG, and mod it with HD textures, and play it. Skip the Remake (unless you buy it for like a dollar).
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's a great game, although my PC has a hard time handling such stunning and powerful graphics
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Playing the classic RE game 28 years after its release for the first time. My thoughts ‘Nemesis’ is probably the favorite Resident Evil entry for the majority of old-school players, and I’ve never heard nothing but praises about this game. So here come I, the new gen gamer, who fell in love with the RE franchise after the revolutionary 7’s release. I’ve played (and replayed) all of the series’ entries this summer inspired by the gorgeous Veronica Remake trailer announcement, and only one game…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →After being thoroughly disappointed and disillusioned with the state of the Resident Evil 3 remake, sitting and playing the original game has only made me lament what we could have had. The original Resident Evil 3 Nemesis is a phenomenal game, from start to finish, and worthy of being one of the icons of the survival horror genre. Do yourself a service, embrace those crunchy PS1 graphics and funny voice work, and experience a true horror like no other (and don't let anyone try and say fixed…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Remove DRM and add achievements + cloud saving. Also fix controller input and add key configs like re1 and re2 ports have. Otherwise it's a classic game
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →JUST BUY IT ON GOG! I hate having extra launchers just to play games as much as the next guy, but this port is genuinely terrible. It’s underwhelming on so many levels. • No achievements, which really hurts, You lose that sense of completion and extra motivation to keep playing • No cloud saves - not a huge deal, but still worth mentioning • The main issue is the DRM ENIGMA - which inflates the game size from 400 MB to 4 GB. The game is older than me, it’s easy to crack or emulate anyway...…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is my favorite resident evil game so it hurts to tell you that i cant reccomend this version. For some unknown reason the original GOG RE3 pc and and this one have this issue where the volume will reset to 50% every time you enter a cutscene and if you tab out to fix it the audio will desync. These PC ports also dont have non xbox controller support which i dont think is acceptable. Its also dissapointing that the steam versions of these games have DRM slapped on them, why??? so stupid.…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →the og is better than the remake, so much cool stuff cut out for no reason
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →You’re as beautiful as the day I lost you. Resident Evil 3 Remake definitely needs a remake now...
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →No cloud saves, no default steam deck layout, DRM on a game older than most steam users bruh why please fix
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →"September 28th, daylight. The monsters have overtaken the city. Somehow, I'm still alive..." This is the real experience rather than the Remake which has parts of the content missing, just launch it and ready to go!.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →You thought that nemesis was scary in the remake, son? Well, you shall know true horror and it will chill you to the bone even long after your first playthrough has run it's course. You want S.T.A.R.S.? I'll give you S.T.A.R.S.! also you can skip the door opening animations now!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Vastly superior to the remake, it is crazy how much they removed from this game. To find out they had a tower and park section and on top of that an even longer racoon city streets section.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The only game in the trilogy that manages to launch without problems. Then there's zero controller inputs that work. Can't get out of the main menu. Have to put a DLL Overide launch command for it to correctly verify and confirm a controller being present. Seriously, all 3 of these games have issues; who the hell tested them? Here is the launch command for anyone that may need it; WINEDLLOVERRIDES="dinput, ddraw.dll=n,b" %command%
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →We've finally got the remake for Resident Evil 3 and it's everything we could have hoped for. No, not everything. More. Not only it fixes all the problems the original had it also add plenty of content, here's the list (it's a long one). - We need to begin with Nemesis himself. For this remake, it's clear why Capcom wanted to put his name in the title: they improved him in every way possible. Remember how in the original Nemesis hunted Jill for like 5 minutes? Screw that, now he hunts you…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game pre-dates my own existence. Can't believe people grew up with these weird controls and camera angles... Really fun, though. I enjoy exploring the city and trying to stay one step ahead of the unstoppable Nemesis. (I can see now why nobody was satisfied with the remake.)
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Honestly, this is easily one of the best Resident Evil games ever made and, personally my favorite one along with RE4 OG. The best part is that after you beat the game, there is an epilogue folder right on the main menu. A new one unlocks every single time you finish the game, telling you what happened to the characters after RE2 and RE3. So, seriously don't forget to check all of them out especially the Leon and Sherry dynamic, which the RE2 remake doesn't have.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →> Wake up > Realize RE1, RE2 and RE3 classic are available on steam. > Buys > No controller support and ♥♥♥♥♥♥ configuration > Closes game > Goes back to sleep
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This breaks my heart, but I cannot recommend this in it's current state. I am a MASSIVE classic RE fan and I've been playing these games in all their forms, including the original PC ports. Yes, even the extremely scuffed Virgin Media RE1 PC port This might be the worst showing yet. Let's start from the top: - Weird DRM - States it supports controllers, partially. Very partially. No default bindings for Xinput devices and assigning controls seems to be impossible as it's…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The real RE3 experience, they cut so much content from the remake it is criminal. Still the best RE game to date.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →My favorite RESIDENT EVIL game, relentless pursuer, great gameplay, crazy-looking locations, item and enemy variations, apocalyptic soundtrack and intense nostalgia.... I have finished this one more than I can count and every time I discovered some new detail, which is interesting considering the making-of story and sequel debate about it. Thanks a lot to Capcom and more importantly GOG for making this game even more available, it's one that holds a special place in a lot of people's hearts.…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I have hundreds of hours on this game, simply the best resident evil game of all time perfect
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →10/10 no notes. Talented, brilliant, incredible, amazing, show stopping, spectacular, never the same, totally unique, completely not ever been done before, unafraid to reference or not reference, put it in a blender, ♥♥♥♥ on it, vomit on it, eat it, give birth to it. I recommend everyone to play this, it has so much replayability, especially if you have only played the remake, this might as well be a whole different game compared to it. I wont complain about the remake too much because…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Game seems good but I can't support a port whose quality I can only describe as passable. Config menus are poorly documented, while there is a launcher with various settings the only way to change the controls is by pressing F1 and right clicking the various bindings, which is not mentioned anywhere in the launcher. Secondly, all the cutscenes except for the opening movies seem to automatically skip, even if I don't touch the controller, and this happens on keyboard too for seemingly no reason.…

EN No doubt, this is the best in the series for me. It’s where I started and fell in love with everything: the soundtrack, the characters, and the…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →get rid of the DRM, its not needed. It tanks performance, makes the game larger and messes with support for certain controllers. do better capcom. GOG has a DRM free version that frequently goes on sale for the same sale price as here. It's less than a Gigabyte and you own it forever.
