You don’t really know what’s happening, until you reach specific areas which trigger story moments. The story gets really interesting and kept me intrigued the whole way through. Phantom Trigger is a “Neon Slasher” so expect vibrant visuals, energetic electronic music and lots of hack & slashing. Unfortunately, the combat gets very dull and repetitive with the game throwing a constant…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Video Review https://youtu.be/v-8RfDOeEHg Written Review Story Phantom Trigger begins with the main character Stan suffering from an abrupt seizure before quickly transitioning to an alternate reality in which we control a scarfed individual called The Outsider. From here, it divulges into 2 plot lines, one as The Outsider traversing the strange world, the other depicting the events involving Stan after the seizure (these are delivered through flashbacks) and it’s a shame that the latter is…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I wanted to enjoy this game but once I reached the second boss, I was tired of it. The art is beautiful (albeit the simple ui of the main menu feels unfitting to the rest of the game) and the storytelling seems very interesting and seems to bend to certain choices you make but the combat that it so heavily focuses on is undependable.Sometimes the combos do not go off properly, the dash sometimes outright stops working or acts on a delay when you are trying to dodge an attack, and just does not…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I was very much ready and willing to overlook the blatantly derivative nature of this game in return for some fun and rewarding gameplay. Sadly however, this fun and rewarding gameplay was not forthcoming. Combos feel laboured and inconsistent. Allowing the dash button to form part of the combo system itself leaves you with a dash that works differently depending on when and how it's used when, for the most part, all you really want it to do is get you out of harm's way and into a better…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The comparisons to Hyper light drifter are going to be made, so I'll get that out of the way . You kill tough enemies, and have a dash move . there end the similarities between the two games. Phantom Trigger is a hardcore action-adventure game set in a mysterious world, where you control the hero and three main weapons : A sword ( blue) A whip ( green ) And knuckles ( red ) Using the three weapon types wil level them up ( represented by meteres in the top left ) Also, destroying crystals…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Trust me, Phantom Trigger is by far the most exciting hardcore neon slasher game you’ll ever find yourself playing! Because it’s the only game in this completely made-up genre. In all seriousness though, Phantom Trigger can be considered a very solid pixel art action game that manages to do a lot of things right and in a quite unique way despite its apparent resemblance to another well-known indie hit. If you, like me, ended up on this store page thanks to the art style, I can ensure you…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Unfinished buggy boring generic game Can't understand why controls are unconsistent (controller works fine with every single other game i own) Sold badly so dev aren't even bothering anymore.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Toad is ma homie.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Wow! Decent pixel perfect action with strong groove in it's very soul. Gorgeous animations and perfectly matching sound and music! 10 red satisfying punches out of 10
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Nice looking game but, no instructions, no keybinding settings making it kinda hard to figure out controls
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The game plays great! My only con to the game is that there wasn't an explanation to how the characters powers worked, no small tutorial or anything. Other than that the game offers some fast pace action with a combination of different superpowers. The landscape also has some objects that can be triggered as weapons used against your foes. There is a world of different enemies that offer a variation of obstacles to overcome. As a puzzle game it has some interesting challenges that can be…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I felt I was going through this game's challenging nature out of desire to surmount difficulty more than because I liked it. It has a nice sense of mystery, a beautiful pixel art, nice music, and a right-above-threshold gameplay. But it's repetitive and frustrating without feeling rewarding.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →No resolution settings. No control settings. Game inexplicably does not respond to any buttons after encoutering the first NPC in the first level. Prompted to press space after "greetings outsider" and cannot progress.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I try my best to avoid a lot of indie titles. Not because of the overall quality but because there are so bloody many! I want to get my hands on most but really haven’t the time or more importantly …the funds. Enter Phantom Trigger, another TinyBuild published title. Developed by Bread Team which have no affiliation with the carb heavy physics marathon that is, I Am Bread. What drew me towards Phantom Trigger (or PT for short) was the neon art style, reminiscent of Dungeon of the Endless with…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Hardcore and only HARDCORE!!! Bread team, Tiny build, thanks for the GREAT GAME! Very interesting slasher, amazing units, beautiful and colorful grafic. "Red hand" is my favorite! ... and I'm sorry Stan :-)))
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The VNs go like this: ***Original Trilogy:*** The Fruit of Grisaia -> The Labyrinth of Grisaia -> The Eden of Grisaia They all got anime adaptations with the same names. I hear they are a fun watch but cut a LOT of content, in particular from the first game (12 episodes for a VN with an average length of 75h on VNDB). ***Phantom Trigger:*** Grisaia: Phantom Trigger Vol. 1 -> Vol. 2 -> Vol. 3 -> Vol. 4 -> Vol. 5 -> Vol. 5.5 -> Vol. 6 -> Vol. 7 -> Vol. 8 Takes place in the same universe but…
unlabelledView post →I received this game from a TinyBuild rep and was extra excited to try it out. The art style reminded me of quite a few other titles that I really loved, but after a few minutes, I wasn't sure if my reverence was appropriate. The story, while mildly interesting, was delivered almost too subtly, through small clips spread out through the game. Not necessarily a bad thing, but it was rather strange and disjointed. The combat is clearly the star of the show in this game. It seems pretty good, but…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Finished [Trails into Reverie](https://www.nintendo.com/en-us/store/products/the-legend-of-heroes-trails-into-reverie-switch/). Well, that took a while, more than 90h, but I went for full completion - main game, post game dungeon, trials, daydreams, minigames, everything done. I love the Trails series, it's one of my favorite JRPG series ever, but it has its fair share of problems - they use the same formula for most games so it's easy to get burned out if you play many of them in sequence,…
unlabelledView post →The game doesn't tell you what the controls are, and as far as I can find there is no way to view them or rebind them anywhere in the game, so WTF am I supposed to do?
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Five minutes into the game, four pillars pop up. I can whip them. There is supposed to be a pattern or something. Can't figure it out. Enemies just keep appearing and the pillars reset. As I killed the enemies, I realized I was not having fun. It looks and sounds good but it is dull gameplay.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's is promising, gorgeous looking game, which has all chances to be a great game. Here i'll try to describe my pros and cons. PROS: - Amazing art style! Aminations, particle effects, attacks look very juicy. 10/10 - Stylish neon-ambient mucis and sound effects. 9/10 - Fact that the game has a story makes me happy. 8/10 for story CONS: - Not perfect gameplay. Because some enemies are so annoying my usual tactic is - teleport through whole map get in locked room. Destroy all enemies ->…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Somehow still on [Trails into Reverie](https://www.nintendo.com/en-us/store/products/the-legend-of-heroes-trails-into-reverie-switch/), LMAO. I was planning on tackling the final dungeon during this week, but instead I ended up going go crazy with optional stuff and doing *everything* that was available in the Reverie Corridor. * Went as far into the dungeon as the game allows (midpoint of Stratum 4) * Tracked and scanned all missing enemies in Stratum 1-4 * Completed all Daydreams *…

I enjoyed Phantom Trigger. It isn’t without its shortcomings, but it is a very polished and fun game. It took me around 5 hours to beat it on the hardest difficulty, but I didn’t feel like that was a bad thing. I actually quite enjoyed the tightness of the gameplay and felt that the…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I was just super bored with it. It is by the book done right I guess.. Like it functions and is colorful and plays tight etc but I can see the story a mile away and the gameplay is not fun enough to keep me around.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I was quite stressed this week, and one thing that helps when I'm like this is playing games where I can just shut down my brain and play purely on reflex. So I went back to [Theatrhythm Final Bar Line](https://www.nintendo.com/store/products/theatrhythm-final-bar-line-switch/) for a few days. I'm a huge fan of rhythm games in general and this series in particular, even got the fancy overpriced premium version with all DLCs at launch and have been playing on and off since then. I caught up to…
unlabelledView post →Anti-Hype Drifter. Short, buggy and boring. Bare minimum world building. Same three enemy types on loop and boss fights so unclear you’ll need a walkthrough (nobody cared enough to make one). Towards the end they practically remove the checkpoints and spike up the enemy count so they couldn't even get that right.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →DISCLAIMER: This is a first impressions review, and NOT a full review Phantom Trigger is a game developed by Bread Team, Victor Solodilov and Denis Novikov and published by tinyBuild Games The graphics and music are nice and beautiful especially traversing the world and I personally love the type of graphics the game is going This game is not for everyone, it's challenging, but if you like survival games that offer different gameplay mechanics and interesting concepts to play in short…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is awesome. The combat is very tight, your awesome teleport can still leave you vulnerable enough to the enemy waves, you get snazzy special moves that only ask you to use all your weapons to unlock them, this game is worth it at full price.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →TL;DR: Phantom Trigger is a beautiful, pixelated, hardcore neon slasher. Throughout the game, you need to figure out what is real and what is not for Stan as you go through surreal and twisted worlds. In this game, you are your own worst enemy. Visuals: In Phantom Trigger, there are very beautiful and colourful for the human eye. I was astonished to see this many colours used in a RPG-like neon slasher. In combat, the effect lighting is bright and also attractive for us, the player, the…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Garbage, lame story, lame controls, wake characters.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game has a considerable lack of direction and lack of quality of life with regards to the player, this is quite evident early on and for that reason alone I only managed half an hour - completing, I believe, 1 and a half dungeons and then gave up. This game is problematically boring and unengaging. Wouldn't recommend on anything but 90% discount (even knowing it's never been that low to date) - it's just not worth your time effectively unless there are considerable changes to it.
