And I mean anything, even reaching all the way back to From Software’s “Echo Night: Beyond.” And for that reason, I’m probably the least credible reviewer of this niche genre of games. While I don’t like them all, I’ll bend way over backwards to give them the time of day. Yeah, I give sci-fi horror games a mile-wide benefit of the doubt; I give them the kind of pass you wouldn’t give yo mamma. In a word, be very…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Quite similar to Alien Isolation. With less jump-scares, more suspense building. Gameplay involves traversing a ship to find answers along with a way out. Story is told through audio-files gathered. Phantaruk does use a battery/flashlight system but it wasn't a problem, usually had some charge left and didn't explore 100% of levels. One interesting feature was the toxin system. When enemies approached fear(toxin) level rises, so antidotes collected must be used sparingly. 4k+ resolution is…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Introduction Phantaruk has been developed by Polyslash and published by PlayWay S.A. The games tries to emulate the feel of survival horror in a space station environment. If that sounds familiar, you are right, there are over a dozen titles which left their mark upon this type of gameplay. Gameplay And yet Phantaruk puts an emphasis on slower-paced exploration of your surroundings. I would have enjoyed a chance to fight back, instead of just hiding from the game’s alien menace. And even…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →See written review below or watch it here: https://youtu.be/_QPe3aibcA8 THIS IS A MIXED REVIEW! TL;DR: SKIP TO CONCLUSION! Phantaruk is a first person survival horror adventure where you must run, hide, and find your way off the ship. You are unarmed and vulnerable on a spaceship filled with creatures roaming within. Pros: sound effects and music were effective at creating a tense experience by using minimal jumpscares, and a great atmosphere very suspenseful feel to it, especially when you…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Maybe the one big surprise about Phantaruk, a two hour wander around an eerie near-empty research ship, is that it pours enough of its heart and soul into an extensive conspiracy of killer viruses and ancient death cults in outer space to make that concept seem far less hokey than it should be. The voice acting and writing are superb but are also far beyond the scope of the game itself. As spooky and well-realised as the creaking bloodsoaked vessel you find yourself trying to escape really is,…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Story: A fat drug addicted man trapped on a space ship and must escape before the mutant creatures kill you! Sneaking around and solving problems like locked doors. My time to beat: under 6 hours. Control: keyboard and mouse Story: a little bland Bugs: none that I encountered Motionsickness: about a 7 out of 10. A lot of running around corridors tends to make me feel queazy. This game wasn't totally great, but it wasn't bad either. The game AI was sort of annoying. At times the mob would see…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →NOTE: This game was given to me by the developer for review purposes. This did not influence my review in any way. ========================================================== ---------------------------------------OVERVIEW------------------------------------- ========================================================== Phantaruk is a no-combat first-person horror game set on a space ship on which a deadly infection has broken out. The game only reveals the backstory slowly as you play, but it…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I have played the Beta and just got myself a full release - so I can finally post a review! The Antidote system really makes the difference, keeping you tense all the time, adding a lot to the sneaking and exploration. Also the story is quite interesting, with a few positively "WTF?!" moments which will stay with me for quite some time. Also this games gives a lot of scares and intense moments with dense atmosphere, with nearly no jumpscares! A rarity these days in Horrors! :D If you're…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's a fairly standard space horror game. The tension is strong and keeps you on edge, but the constant repetition starts to wear thin. That push and pull is both its biggest appeal and its biggest drawback.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →First time ever am i requesting a refund. As a transhumanism zealot i've been extremely excited about this game from the description. I did my best to look for the bright sides in the first hour of gameplay. But all of my patience eventually boiled off. 1). It's nowhere near scary. Our main enemy appears to be dumb, deaf and nearly blind. You can just follow in his footsteps all the way (since he is always conviniently placed on your path wherever you need to go). There might be other things…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →No, just no. That game is not playable... Worst optimization I've ever seen :|
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I played beta from a long time and it's awesome. I love how this horror is building tense without rough jumpscares. If you want play Amnesia but in Space - check out Phantaruk.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Phantaruk is the suspense filled horror game we have all been waiting for. The corridors are darkand dimly lit, the walls and rooms are peppered with messages from the dead and the experience thus far is one of amazement as the game lacks that common staple....the jump scare. Phantaruk proves again that you don't need jump scares to elicit fear, just damn good story telling. I recommend this to anyone who is looking for something more when they play horror games. Double thumbs up from me,…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Phantaruk is a Sci-fi Survival Horror experience, with a stealth mechanic as you can hide in the shadows, theres a little eye icon that tells you if you can be spottet cause its too light. You have your Flashlight which takes batteries you have to find around the ship. You explore this spaceship with some monsters roaming around, you cant fight them, but you can run and hide if you are fast, find a dark corner. The game looks very nice, and its very scary, cause its dark and monsters roam…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Impressive level design, good old school sci-fi feeling. Didn't really care if the monster was scary or not, because the atmosphere was already immersive enough. There are very bland horror games here on steam with tons of copy-pasted empty rooms, this is not one of them. Developers really put some effort into making an immersive locations. Sound is also good. Overall, if you are craving for sci-fi horror, it really fills the gap.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Take crappy Amnesia and stick it in a space station. You now own Pahntaruk.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Nice game! After short round tonight I have to say one thing: I don't regret spending money for this. Story is ok. Gameplay is ok. Music and sound is great! And that monster is pretty f.... scary :D. I don't want him to touch me. Anyway, nice game.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Honestly, I wouldn't recommend this. I don't do a lot of reviews, but this one stuck out to me enough to do so. As my playtime states, under an hour in and I had to turn it off. Pros: -The voice acting is decent from what I heard, clean audio and good inflection like the actor actually cared about the character. -The environment looks good for what it's supposed to be: dark and foreboding. Cons: -Movement is too slow. Walking normally feels stunted and slow, the sprint takes a second to…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I'm always unsure about buying games on their release date, its like rolling the dice hoping that the game is ready. This one was a pleasant surprise. It is indeed ready, and fun to play. Did you like the Amnesia series? Ever wonder what it would be like in space? Well you're in luck. This is not a FPS! There are no guns! It is a horror escape/survival game. Sneak, run, hide. Darkness is your friend. There's the standard array of access pickups like keycards and batteries, and lots of little…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Stereotypical horror game: - Space ship - Religious cults - Hide from enemies - Dubious medical ethics - Ultra dark environments - Humanity being wiped out - Image melts when looking at enemy - Health bar depletes 1% each 4 seconds... The game has mouse acceleration/smoothing with NO OPTION TO TURN OFF. I had to hack my way into the game files to actually be able to play the game... (I made a guide on it if you're interested) I didn't enjoy this game. It was a joke to find out that the…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →What in the garbage did I just play. There is nothing there. You have a darkly lit spaceship, a massive amount of pointless corridors to go down, and one monster that sees you through walls, and runs faster than you and kills you. Your light source dies after two minutes. No story, No plot, nothing.. Even the most basic meat and potatoes of a game is not there. Utter garbage
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Bad game, horrible optimization. It is slow and boring, the monster is the worst he walks like a slug ,your patience is really on the line here, and because you are sick time after time you have to take medicine, but because it is rare to find it ,and many times you will get lost not knowing what to do or where to go, and when medicine is no more you are good as dead. The quest message if of no help almost , there is no map ,no pointer where to go ,and what to press or to push ... Its just like…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Avoid, it is a waste of time and money. The story is bland, the monster is annoying and despite it moves very slow apparently it can teleport (even if you go past it when it goes in the other direction you can still bump on him a few rooms later). Also "partial controller support" is a huge overstatement, I couldn't make mine (Xbox 360 wireless) work and apparently only wired 360 controller somewhat works with this game.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is not good, but it is not completely bad. Graphics are your typical Unity stuff, so can look pretty ugly and plastic, and most of the time it does. What looks good are the clones - they look awesome. But overall game looks incredibly boring and dull, all rooms look alike - even though game is split into small sections, you still might get lost, either be it because it's too dark or there is rarely any point of reference. It gets really bad by the end of the game, when there is smoke…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Sci-Fi Amnesia clone. Now, I already think that Amnesia is a terrible *video game*, but this isn't any better. This is clearly unfinished, with subtitles being extremely offbeat, mouse acceleration that you can't turn off, and stuttering. The "gameplay" is timed, the timer being toxins that will eventually kill you. This is combined with the "gameplay" of having to sit in a corner and wait for a monster to go away. If you can't see that's some real awful design, then I don't know what to tell…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →One of these games that an average would be on point. Since I have to chose between Yay or Nay, I'll go with Nay. The game is cheap and can be entertaining for what it is. The graphics are acceptable, the story is super generic (the ship where everything went to hell), but there are a few things that become really annoying after a while. The toxin / vaccine mechanic doesn't make sense here. It's a horror game, it's already tense. Give me time to explore everything at my own pace, don't make me…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →cliche 1: suddenly waking up on abandoned ship, everybody is "mysteriously" gone (not the 80% of scifi games started the same?) cliche 2: crawl thru vents (almost every game has this element) - the vent entrance design looks like in Deus Ex cliche 3: mad clone person banging head to the wall (Dead Space?) cliche 4: main character has visual distortions by getting near the obviously S.O.M.A. inspired enemy enemies: just a S.O.M.A-style (but in much weaker presentation of course) creature and…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Survival horror aspiring to be like Alien Isolation or SOMA. To be honest: it is much better. I don't know how this game is not that popular. Ingame content is so very decent: sounds, texts, tons of readable-interactive items, realistic structers... i explore everything on my way and it really makes me go deeper and deeper in this game. Far of unknown is a constant feeling. Really unique setting and an awesome unexpectable plot.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Starts off okay, but I just couldn't get into the story, it started to become boring and wasn't creepy or scary.. personally not a fan. You can see my experience here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3O8LaC3G05U
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Nice Phantaruk 6/10 Heisen
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Phantaruk has some interesting ideas and a significant atmosphere that is reminiscent of Doom 3, an aesthetic which I wholly adore. It also had the potential to be a thematically deep experience but that promise ends at a wearisome gameplay mechanic and is ultimately irrelevant to the story. The creature AI is seriously broken and destroys most of the enjoyment; it wanders in erratic patterns, doesn't conform to the stealth system, has ridiculous sound queues and teleports to the player once an…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Phantaruk is sci-fi horror. Or it tries to be. It's a short game with no comprehensible story and main stealth mechanics which doesn't work properly. Sometimes monster can see us through obstacles and start chasing. Then our small stamina doesn't let us hide, and we get killed. I think that gameplay meant to be like Alien: Isolation. But, of course, indie Phantaruk is worse then AAA on all counts. And It would be ok, if it was work right. The game also has a timer. We should use syringes or…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is so poorly optimized that I can't play it. It's not smooth. I can lower the settings to the minimum preset and it's almost playable but still too choppy. I have i-4460, 16GB ram ddr3, a geforce 1050ti the game is installed on my SSD disk and still can't play it. And it's game from 2016, while I can play even the newer titles without major fps issues and still decent graphics. And due to this choppyness, not only the game lags, but it feels weird. I suspect the game uses some really…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is just boring, predictable and hardly any fun.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →If Alien: Isolation were are movie, Phantaruk would be the overseas mockbuster. Most annoying aspect of the game is long periods of uneventful walking simulation peppered with rare occasions where nearly inescapable enemies send you backward to checkpoints. It's easy to miss an antidote or code, meaning more frustration in replay than enjoyment. Got to the Facehugger Nests and didn't bother completing.

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Bro… I really wanted to like this. It started off with cool Dead Space vibes — dark corridors, creepy sounds, a monster lurking somewhere… but that energy dies real quick. The scares? Repetitive. The gameplay? Walk, hide, grab keycard, repeat. The monster? Shows up once in a while like it's clocking in for a part-time job. By the time I was halfway through, I wasn't scared — I was just tired. Same hallways, same objectives, no real story hook. Feels like they had the concept but ran outta…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is perfect example of "bottom of the barrel ok" game. It's an indie game, that's super cheap, almost free when on sale, so I can't critize it that much, but I'll still say some pros and cons. Visually it's great, but I had some stuttering when moving the mouse around, even though I have high end PC. Sound design is great, story is nothing special, voice acting is surprisingly good. What I don't like and the biggest flaw Imo is the main enemy of the game: Phantaruk. First of all,…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I rate the PC survival-horror game Phantaruk 2.5/5. In general, this is a good idea done badly. Honestly, I didn’t have the patience to finish playing this game. Though it has some okay graphics, good sound, good horror music, good voice acting, adequate controls and is a fun idea (a horror game on a spaceship seems like an intrinsically good idea to me and it worked well in System Shock 2), Phantaruk quickly becomes a frustrating experience mired in a slew of bad game design choices. It…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →If you want the brief opinion, here it is: if you are looking for the space horror, you can buy "Phantaruk" without any doubts (and don't forget to check "Syndrome" as well). You are a single person on the space ship, haunted by unknown evil... You will need to make your way throug the maze-like sectors, hiding from the mercyless hunter and fighting agains virus, striking you from within... The game is relatively short and it is not as polished as "Alien: Isolation", for example, but it can…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's a low budget soma ;D Definitely too short and that's the only minus. If u like horror games where u can't kill anyone , Phantaruk will be the good choice.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I don't understand why laggs for me sometimes, was think 1st that is my PC updating something in background, reboot it, changed even settings, but it wasn't... it was the game. Unacceptable really, i don't know if this is a ported game or just some technical issues, but it's unplayable for me with an ASUS GTX 1070 OC & 16gb rams.Well, i should not even mention this since i can play much more resource eating games without any issues. If this is on sale, get it, considering other reviews &…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I don't recommend this game because it has some painfully obvious flaws with how the creature AI acts. Gatekeeping. It's annoying and irritating. I'm near the end, I have the ID card yet the damn creature...which normally just slowly prowls the hallways and rooms, constantly just guards where I need to go. I got it to chase me twice into a room, and had thought I lost it. Went to where I had to go...and the thing stops it's patrol, and comes charging down the hallway. You're basically doomed…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Pretty creepy stuff! I like it! :)
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →In terms of gameplay and presentation, Phantaruk is basically Amnesia: the Dark Descent on a spaceship. The game is a first release from a small Polish development team, using the Unity engine. The game takes about 3 hours or so to finish; there are no weapons, and the main gameplay is sneaking around and avoiding the enemy as it wanders around the level searching for you. Overall I'd say the production values are "professional Indie" quality. Not full studio quality, but not an asset flip…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I bought this game when it was out but played just first level. After 2 years I came back and I must say it's a little gem. I really like the survival part. Game is not long but enough for knowing a story behind... Yes it reminds a bit of Alien Isolation with all those hidings and running. If someone like scifi with decent story and survival it's a good choise...
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Indie horror game made in unity. I didn't expect much and I didn't get much. Pretty bland but playable.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Items mandatory to finishing the game vanish from inventory, toxic effect is heavily making it unenjoyable to even go throuh levels witnessing how environment looks and works, even less when under pressure.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Phantaruk is a small horror game with a nice story and visuals. The tension is great at the beginning and then it only grows! I enjoyed moments with monster chasing me through the corridors. Game is good for long winter nights. Looking forward for more games like that, I played many, and I can place this game in top3 of horror games.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I just purchased this game and am unable to pick up anything that appears to be available. I searched the discussions for this game in the community section, but I could not find anything. I want my money back!!!!!!!
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Beta player here. Pros: - Great music and sound - Nice level design & light work - Scary - Cheap Cons: - monster sometimes is going crazy - weird animations Verdict: You can buy it.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is a nice little survival space ship horror. Definitely on the short side and a bit pricey for what it is, but you can tell there has been a lot of effort put into this and it's head and shoulders above a lot of the other indie horror games on steam. It's a shame it just hasn't quite capitalised on its potential, but I still would recommend you give it a go, particularly if its on sale. The game is a lot like the other penumbra/amnesia games and their clones, but where this game mixes…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Do not even launch it if you are chicken. Only for people with nerves of steel! This game was like 6 hour marathon of terror. I played games like Dead Space normally. I don't know what this games has, but it's like whole new level of horror. I will not forget this game for a long time. That is a horror I am certain I will not forget for a long time.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is like Alien Isolation, but with better graphics and I think better plot. It's got interesting gameplay, great writing, entertaining VO, a frightening atmosphere, and even manages to provoke deep thought. An interesting setting mixed with a very well crafted story that doesn't get carried by unexpectable twists but by the way the story is continously presented to the player. Best space horror at the market right now.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Good stealth horror game! Not AAA class as Soma or Alien Isolation, but anyway interesting. Can't say something bad about this game, because it even has rebindable controls (rare thing in indie games)! Maybe it someway short but maybe this is for good - game not became boring. Only one aspect i can really critisize - hand computer text fonts are too small and blurred into almost unreadable condtion (but you need to read them in order to find door codes). Also about reading - your time in game…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Scary but not scary...how can I explain it. Very intriguing game. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rtN4JfZ0o_w
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It has a mediocre sci-fi horror plot, which would be fine, but making a stealth game without the ability to lean around corners? ♥♥♥♥ no. Also getting hit 2 times and its game over - when spotted it's easier to just get killed than to run. Also no idea how exactly the clone enemies work, because i literally could walk around them within 1 metres range, and then suddenly one attacks me. Ugh.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Phantaruk is a sci-fi horror game that tries to capture that “trapped on a spaceship with something hunting you” feeling, and for a while it actually does a decent job of building tension. You wake up alone on a deteriorating research vessel, dealing with limited resources, locked doors, and something hostile roaming the corridors. The atmosphere is the main highlight here - dark, claustrophobic environments, flickering lights, and constant uncertainty about what’s around the next corner. The…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Absolutely horrible. So dark you can't see anything. Stealth that barely works, enemies spot you when they absolutely shouldn't and only rarely give you chance to escape, moving really slow when you try to pass them(with few enemies that get random zoomies) but rushing you the moment they spot you, turning on the flashlight around them is a death sentence. Antidote mechanic is weird, it gives you brief slow mo that isn't useful in any way but you have to do it to see anything at all as…
