Patch Quest

ActionAdventureIndie

Developer Lychee Game Labs

In a labyrinth surrounded by vicious monsters, Explorers must rely on their Lasso to survive! Capture and tame ANY monster to leap, glide, surf, tunnel and websling through a treacherous, patchwork maze. This roguelike/metroidvania seems cute, but it’s a deceptively difficult bullet-hell challenge! From the Steam store page

You know what's mad? Patch Quest is like five different games that actually managed to NOT be complete rubbish. Usually when developers try to do everything, it's like watching an amateur talent show where some pillock thinks they can juggle chainsaws while singing opera. Spoiler: they can't. But THIS? This game's the exception. Imagine a game where every single time you start, the whole bloody map reshuffles itself like my uncle Miles after three pints - completely unpredictable! But here's…

I'll be up front about this one, it's a pretty good game but it's way too big. The map is huge, you are forced to redo large portions of the map due to the ramping damage the enemies begin to deal, and the shortcuts aren't that useful to get to far away places. I enjoyed my time for about 6-7 hours but then everything sort of felt the same. Mounts don't vary too much from eachother, most bosses play about the same, there's only like 8 types of bullets and they are going to run out in like 20…

Underrated masterpiece. When I first played this, all the forgotten childhood memories of playing Pokémon Ranger flooded my mind, and WOW was it great. Complete the encyclopedia, discover new animals and areas, and get every pet and sticker you can. It has the formula of a roguelite, but as you advance, you can get progressively further on the map because of shortcuts, so it doesn’t get tiring at any moment. Also, I love the bullet hell gameplay and the diversity that each mount and weapon…

Unfortunately Patch Quest is far too repetitive to recommend. Fun for ~5 hours, but you've seen all the game has to offer by then. Even for standard game completion, it's tedious for no reason. Fast travel only works for tiles you've visited in this run, and you will be constantly interrupted by enemies along the way. The map isn't even randomly generated, so the game is intentionally wasting your time. The enemy damage scales to force a restart after about an hour, so you will be…

I cant recommend this game. Honestly 94% is crazy. Yet another roguelike that really makes a shallow game. Theres just really repeating the same thing over and over whether you are doing story or the challenges. You are going patch to patch in a bullet hell roguelike killing mobs. Theres nothing rewarding about playing this game. As a completionist I started with trying to get all the gold medals. And its really sad to see .5% of people who play this game supposedly beat all levels with gold…

Rolled the credit with Patch Quest! This game took longer than I thought but in a good way! I felt pretty engrossed by it. There wasn’t really a moment that I felt “ugh, why does it not end yet?” Despite it being rogue-like, there’s also a great sense of progression. 1/3

One word: Wow. This might be my favorite game of the year. Don't let the art style fool you- this ain't Scribblenauts. Patch Quest is a hybrid of lots of things: Twin-stick shooter, bullet hell, roguelike, metroidvania, and collectathon, to name a few. It does all of them well. What you've got here is a run-based expedition system with upgrades that reset after you die, where the grand structure of the map doesn't change between runs, but the contents of the rooms do. As a result, there's a…

It's a cute game, but it's not 15 bucks worth. It's a very toned down version of bullet hells with enemy variety mainly consisting of enemies you mount and ride. Enemies basically are the same that just shoot different symbols at you that can afflict you with status effects. (Slowdown, bad accuracy, etc.) Never felt pressured to get rid of specific enemy over another. Your gun never changes, you can only change it's effects (rapid fire, spread, etc.) I spent only a dollar on it, but through…

Been playing Patch Quest recently. It’s a monster-taming adjacent with a mix of “roguelike”/metroidvania-ish and bullet-hell. I’m having a blast with this game. And the designs are very cute, and the gameplay mechanics are very rich. Don’t let the look fool you tho because it gets quite difficult 😂

Surprisingly difficult and engaging bullet hell, with a healthy topping of cute/funny mechanics and cuter monsters. Will probably become boring after a while, given that part of the intended gameplay loop is discovering new stuff, and there's a finite amount of new stuff to discover, but honestly? That's actually kind of a refreshing change in these days of must be marketable, must addict as many people as possible for as long as possible, must keep going even after the game should reasonably…

Patch quest has the best features, like, two-player local coop, custom difficulty (THERE'S A SLIDER, it goes up to 11), and the most cute pokemony animals out there. You want to catch'em all, and give them names, like LEVEL99999BOSS, or Pierrette, or Procrastinosaur. We won, we got everything, but now there are roguelike challenges or something. MORE.

Incredible game, world building and mechanics. Often doing runs just trying to survive till you can open up that shortcut so next run you can make it to the boss in better condition. Picking up skills or planting pins that will give me the buff I need to get far in that run. I ended up uncovering all of the map and had a really good time doing so. Now Ive missed a few things and by looking at the map Id not know where to even start so I am not going to bother but this was a lot of fun.

It's a shockingly mindless game for me, and despite how far I got in my first run, I didn't really feel like I was getting better. I felt a bit like I was just lucking out, especially given the amount of trouble I was having avoiding danger. There's also a lot happening at once visually, which makes it hard for me to focus on what I'm doing and where my projectiles and attacks are headed. I also kinda felt like I'd rather be watching the development video about the game as opposed to playing…

What a cute little game! Patch Quest is a game just brimming with personality. It combines a roguelite metroidvania with a dash of Pokemon where you explore the mysterious land of patches. It plays mostly like a twin-stick bullet hell shooter but there is some in-run progression to achieve. By and by you unlock different modes of metaprogression like your own little menagerie of weird critters. A frog mixed with a camel? A warthog made of leaves? A triceratops made of jello? Patch Quest is a game where you blend different fruits into smoothies to put hundreds of local wildlife to sleep all in an effort to "save" the environment while you are actively siphoning the local resources. Also it's a bullet hell. 10/10 would patch again.

A really cute and colorful twin-stick bullet hell explorer/collector rogue-lite sticker game. You take multiple runs into the wilderness, with enemies getting stronger over time, but resets when you return to base, so difficulty is based on you taking a risk/reward calculation to keep going or to return to base with your current haul. There's also the stat/perk selection going on each run, along with capturing animals (bosses included) that can affect a minor change in play style with the…

The artwork is cute, and the sound effects and gameplay are enjoyable. However, after a couple of runs, things quickly become boring. There is nothing that motivates me to progress. There's nothing to aim for. There's nothing about each biome that makes me want to travel there. Just wandering around patches, fighting mobs.

Great game but not recommended for completionists, there's tons of stuff to collect but doing so often feels more fiddly than fun. I was originally planning on 100%ing Patch Quest but it's extremely unrewarding going around the map trying to track down the pins I missed during my playthrough (one where I got all four gems and unlocked/beat the final boss, no less). But, again, I got a solid 25 hours out of the title before running into that wall so I still have no issue giving it an easy thumbs…

First of all it is a super collect-a-thon for those that like collecting, although you aren't forced to do any of the collecting really, but you do get lots of upgrades and pets this way. One of the things you'll be collecting is monsters/pets that you ride of which there is a wide variety of monsters and each of them have their own set of special abilities that are also reasonably varied, but with so many there are a lot that are similar.
