I'm using the term "adventure game" loosely here, as some of these are more VNs than ADVs, but these are the titles that affirmed my love for this type of game and all its sub-genres.

unlabelledView post →Paranormasight was THE game that encouraged me to branch out into visual novels beyond Ace Attorney and Ghost Trick. The opening story in particular is enormously effective.
unlabelledView post →I got to review the second installment of Paranormasight & much of what I loved in Seven Mysteries of Honjo still applies to The Mermaid's Curse. The new ensemble is as amazing as the first game, perhaps even stronger in some ways. It's a bit less scary, but does make you think more! It's awesome.

And so many other wild indies

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Imagine my shock when I heard that a second PARANORMASIGHT game got announced, with the game releasing mere weeks after. I thought the first game was a beautiful, underrated gem and I never could have guessed a sequel would be made. I am glad this was made, for this game is FIRE and GOD I MISSED THIS MUSIC ITS SO GOOD Even basic stuff like the UI got a huge upgrade, now being very water-centric and themed with all these cool visual effects. Of course, the Paranormasight series just nails…

First game I completed this year was PARANORMASIGHT: The Mermaid's Curse, which I loved more than the first one! A must for mystery VN fans!
unlabelledView post →A horror gamer I am not - BUT I do sometimes find something spooky I enjoy Since it's discounted in the Steam Autumn sale AND on the Switch eShop, want to drop a rec for Paranormasight This is the game that really opened me up to visual novels & was a top 10 2023 game for me! (My old review below)

I haven’t beaten a video game since my playthru of the Tomb Raider reboot a WHILE ago, and here recently I’ve beaten LoZ:OoT, FFVII Remake, the first Paranormasight, immediately bought the second, and have started FFVII Rebirth AND Crystal Chronicles 🔥
unlabelledView post →2026 game #14: Paranormasight The Mermaid’s Curse I don’t do horror. I’m picky w visual novels. It shouldn’t have worked on me once & it really shouldn’t have worked on twice. BUT IT DID & I was grinning ear to ear & the last thing I screamed was WHY IS THIS CUTE. I dare you to play & find out why

unlabelledView post →Here I am, 2 years and 7 months after I 100% completed PARANORMASIGHT: The Seven Mysteries of Honjo and reviewed it, and a new game has been released, hence marking PARANORMASIGHT as a series, just as I wished for. Now, about the game, PARANORMASIGHT: The Mermaid's Curse is an amazing mystery visual novel just like its predecessor. The story, the mysteries, the twists and turns were amazing. Unlike its predecessor, this game's theme is not horror; it's more about the culture, the history of…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →For me, it was the recent demo for Trails in the Sky 1st Chapter. I finished the demo a while ago but I still keep booting it up to walk around and look at stuff. Another in the recent past was Paranormasight because it felt like a game that was made for me specifically.
unlabelledView post →With regret I was not expecting to write a negative review for this game. I enjoyed it a lot for most of my playtime! It felt like an improvement from the first game; a smaller cast, tightly focused narrative. A few characters and ideas are underserved, but overall this was a good story, well told. Then I started the True Ending path. I can't unpack my thoughts on this matter without spoilers, but in brief - the ending was bad enough to sour my feelings towards the game. On a rational,…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Ugh. I really enjoyed the first Paranormasight, despite some storyline quibbles, so I was excited for this one... but it just missed the mark for me. On paper, it has all of the features that made the original a stand-out game. It's got the same unique visual style, the distinct 80s vibes and vibrant cast of characters, the meta puzzles, twists and mysteries. It also adds a few mini games to make the gameplay feel more varied and fresh. But the story and characterization choices just... pissed…

unlabelledView post →I want to preface this by saying I was going into it with extremely high expectations established from the first game being a masterpiece. I also did wind up 100% completing this game, so take my following opinion as you will. The statement that can summarize my thoughts is this: I wish this wasn’t a Paranormasight game. The reason being is that I think on the whole, the story they told here could be really compelling, but because it is trying to fit into the gameplay mold the first game…

unlabelledView post →Just got an achievement in Paranormasight because I was playing the game after midnight. First achievement I've ever gotten that I thought was genuinely cool 😭
unlabelledView post →I'm actually surprised by the extent of my dissatisfaction at the end of this. This entry is not nearly as compelling, intriguing, or engaging as the first. All puzzles outside of the true ending are extremely simple, both literal type-in-answer/option selections, and actually predicting the story as it unfolds, AND there were very few of them! I can only hope that in future PARANORMASIGHT games (which I still want!) characters like Sodo, Shiki, Circe, and Avi are revisited. They have a lot of…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →finished Paranormasight: the Seven Mysteries of Honjo thoughts: this should have been a candidate for game of the year when it came out. Holy shit. Play this game. Perfect presentation, use of systems and elegant asset implementation, fantastic cast and story, class act game.
unlabelledView post →it's like watching Glass Onion after Knives Out but there's no longer Daniel Craig in a fruity suit to justify the slog. I'll just get to the point, since I already feel an aneurysm forming in my brain as I'm writing this. The pacing is terrible - from start to finish. At first I thought it's due to the amount of exposition, because you spend around 70% of the game reading pages of text about local customs, mythology and geography. Every time you initiate a dialogue or any kind of interaction…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Whole story ruined by backtracking the entire story up until the very end to add in a forced and zero chemistry romance. Unbelievable waste of a fun and intriguing story (even if it does repeat every single story beat to you 3 times from separate characters like you're an idiot). Just play the first game and pretend it ends there.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Fun dive fishing game! Oh, and there is a visual novel attached to the side. That's cool I guess. In all seriousness, The Mermaid's Curse is a great follow up to The Seven Mysteries of Honjo. It maintains that same level of writing, containing a gripping mystery populated with endearing characters. I really love the cast in this one. I did have issues with the pacing at times. Some chapters went a little too heavy on the exposition. And it felt like it took a while before the action really…
