Mixed reception: some praise its fun, others cite bugs and shallow depth.

Many players enjoy the game's addictive, relaxing city-building with a Prison Architect aesthetic, comparing it favorably to Anno and The Settlers. [1][3][5][7][9][16][17]

However, a significant number of critics report game-breaking bugs, fragile economies that cascade into failure, and a lack of depth compared to genre classics. Some also allege the game contains spyware, though this is disputed. [24][25][26][27][28][30][31][36]

This game is basically Anno but with Prison Architect graphics style. It has nothing to do with settlers or factorio as other people suggest.

TLDR: Even though I think it would be a good introduction for someone new to resource management games, (there's no housing so I refuse to call this a colony sim) the price tag is twice what I think it's worth. One More Island is a resource management game with a Prison Architect aesthetic. The Good: - It runs well. - It's good for players new to the genre as it's very casual. The Bad: - For veterans of the genre, there's nothing here that hasn't already been done. - No housing for pawns…

This game is a fun little city builder. People seem to be comparing it to settlers, but it's not nearly as complex as the classic ones. Supply chains tend to be pretty short. The complexity comes around shipping products between islands. It almost feels a bit like tropico or something, but with cartoon graphics. The beginning is more fleshed out than the later tiers. The game becomes a little sparse later on, and some more of the complex setups are repetitive and a little painful to…

Despite enjoying my second playthrough and reaching the victory screen, I have to thumps down because of my miserable first day of experience playing this game. Here are 3 main problems that are almost dealbreakers to me: 1. Everything is so fragile. Workers die from not reaching the market within a short timeframe, and if that's someone with a critical job then everything can quickly fall apart. Meanwhile, crops goes from "needs watering" to dying in a similar manner, and when you try to run…

Would I recommend this game? Yes, definitively! Do you like Factorio? Anno 1404? Prison Architect, Oxygen not Included, or Rimworld? You’ll probably like One More Island as well: One More Island allows you to obsess over tiny details, getting worked up about efficiency, while at the same time challenging you to do better, forcing you to create new production lines for new goods, just so you can research the next tier, just so you can start improving all over again. I’ve clocked quite a few…

This game right here shows exactly why I don't write reviews for games till after I complete them. The game starts as a decent enough city builder (or as I like to call this one British Empire simulator) but once you reach research tier 3 and 4 the bugs, bad designs, frustrating elements and lack of quality of life features really start to show just how bad this game actually is. Just to give you an idea I will list some (by far not all) of the things that are wrong: music randomly stops…

I remember reading a review before I purchased this game declaring that the entire game was just ratios. Make a spreadsheet, build things in the right ratio, and the game completes itself. One More Island was very cheap as part of a bundle, and I thought to myself, "You could technically say the same thing about Factorio, and that's one of my favorite games." I should have listened to that review — not because of the wasted money, but the wasted time. It doesn't become apparent how devoid…

One More Island is a colonization game similar to Anno 1404. You have to build up production chains in order to keep your citizens happy which enables you to grow your city. As opposed to Anno you have more control over the layout of your buildings, which really appeals to me. The controls and menu are simple and intuitive. The game is very addictive, there's always one more thing to expand or optimize, never a dull moment! It's also very satisfying to zoom out and to see all your citizens…

Edit: After spending some time in the discussion boards and discord, I've found a dev who is very dedicated to his game, his community, and the feedback they receive, followed by swift changes to QOL and bugs fixes. I recommend it much more now. A fun island resource manage colony sim game with a neat Prison architect style to it. It's fun to set up supply chains between your islands and the tech tree is neat if a bit small. Tentative thumbs up because the game could use a bit more polish.…

As much as I want to love this game there's no getting away from how buggy and unpolished it is. Colonists will die of hunger standing next to food, whole islands will freeze for extended periods of time, both of which can lead to a cascading failure of the entire colony. Movement is restricted to 4 directions so ships will often fish tail when trying to move diagonally, tech research is terribly uninteresting and underdeveloped, and the voice lines are extremely repetitive. Playing the game…

I am really frustrated with this game at the moment. I started my very first game...and stone deposits were nowhere to be found except a small island nearby. Since I can't there by ship yet, I had to start over a new island because I couldn't progress without the stone. Finally got to Tier II research. Everything stopped (production), so I tried to figure out why I didn't have workers making "Tools". Because in order to get a qualified worker to make "Tools" you, I guess? need to upgrade…

Nothing here that hasn't been done, and better. The only unique concept is the ability to make production buildings different shapes - so you can have one big mega bakery rather than lots of little ones - but it's missing a lot of features that I've come to expect from anno style resource management games. Worth maybe $5 just to play around with the mechanics and figure it out. No replay value whatsoever.

I wish there was neutral button. This is a cute version of Anno 1800 and much cheaper one at that. The person who said it's a mixture of prison architect and Anno is about right. It does nothing new though. I know I only played a short time, but it was enough to test it. The UI is solid, tutorial is good. Overall, it's a good game that I would recommend, unless you already own Anno, then just go play that. And folks saying this is rimworld...have they played rimworld?

Like many settlement games, the settlers eventually stop delivering materials and everyone starves to death. As soon as you upgrade to tier 2, it's over. There's no more fish. There's no more bread. Nothing can be replaced in any of the tier 2 zones. It's almost like you need to keep all the tier 1 zones to feed new tier 2 zones that used to be tier 1 zones, etc, which is utterly stupid. It's very satisfying to build and optimize your production chains and slowly see your empire expand. I tried it out on my Steam Deck and it seems to run fine. I love the concept of this game, like I do most management / colony sim games. The zoning and buildings required approach is refreshing and interesting, and the graphics are cosy as heck. But it's not a colony sim. There's no housing for your workers, no real needs that they have aside from "buying" them with bread and then putting them on a workspace. No further interactions, no personalities, they're just resources. That makes this more of a factory sim than a colony sim. The zoning thing…

I do see the potential here for an enjoyable experience, however... This game, at the time of review, should still be in beta , and at the most, an early access game. An example from one industry. Bread production, two bakeries function just fine, third bakery sometimes receives a flour delivery, the fourth has plenty of flour, and is full of bread stacked on the floor, that's 45 bread not being used, and backlogs the bakery into non production. It is pretty much the same for each industry…

I've been one of the lucky ones that was able to play the game in the early stages of development. I enjoyed it from the get go and am really exited to see how far the game has improved. Over the years I've played a lot of different Colony Sim and City Buiding games. I don't think this game should be marketed as a colony sim - there is no housing, no generations, etc. This is a resource management game, and that's it. And once you get the hang of the resource management part, you're scrolling on your phone while the game runs in the background, just waiting for some sort of popup that you have to deal with. For example, when all of your workers die for no reason, and now you have to replace them with new workers. BUT each worker starts at Tier 1 and must…

Starting to agree with the other reviews popping up. It doesn't do anything that hasn't been done better elsewhere, and is twice the price of what it should be. I could outline those here, like all the governors coming with a boon but a trade-off that almost totally contradicts the boon, but I'd just be repeating the other reviews. Here's a couple points I didn't see. Once you build one large version of each production facility, with a good amount of storage so your chain can stockpile a bit,…

Personally, I feel this game lacks the depth I'm use to with other strategy/base-building titles that it tries to emulate. It's basically a dumbed down Anno with Rimworld/Prison Architect graphics. Might had made a good mobile/ipad platform game, but I feel it doesn't quite have enough gameplay or features to justify it's current price tag.

But I prefer just one big island, it's easier that way... One more island is a solid game where you are a mayor who try to turn all those islands, that contain no living soul on them, into massive plantations, and factories to produce goods, and satisfy your own worker ...and the queen?? But it's not close enough to be consider as a colony simulation game because your worker don't need a house of their own or sleep, so the main focus is on the logistic, productivity, and consume. Which mean,…

A charming, lightweight colony sim with a heavy focus on maritime supply chains. Managing trade routes between different tropical islands is pretty satisfying at first, and the low-fi aesthetic is easy on the eyes. Unfortunately, the late game gets bogged down by tedious logistics, and tiny mistakes can cause your whole economy to cascade into chaos. Fun for a weekend, but genre veterans might find the mechanics a bit too shallow.

You know it's bad when the workers in dwarf fortress are more responsive than these. The UI is awful (especially for trade routes), workers sometimes refuse to pick up goods and bring them to the markets (lost in t3 because I "ran out" of cider despite having 800 stockpiled with workers refusing to move it). I wish I could refund this despite getting it on heavy discount.
