56 of 56 · most liked firstThe style of this game is what intrigued me about it but sadly that is about all it has going for it. It is in a very poor state for a $15 base price and Early Access in my opinion, here is my thoughts. - No real story? The game pretty much just starts and throws you intro it with no introduction or any story elements really to speak of. You wake up, choose your starting monster and that is pretty much it. You then leave your house and pretty much wander aimlessly fighting NPCs. - Monsters…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Unfinished abandonware. What little is there is not worth the 15$.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I really wanted to like Nuumonsters but there are so many quality of life settings missing. Not being able to check monster stats, permadeath (I guess the trainer dies from grief) instead of just sending you back to the local Nuumonster centre, odd button layout and this is just to name a few. Monster designs are overly simplistic so they look incredibly similar. It's such a shame because I like the combat system, it's different enough to keep it interesting. I really hope there are updates…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →(Perspective: played the final 2023 early access version and wrote a guide for it, played the 2026 full release and left it on overnight to take advantage of a very funny bug for information archival purposes.) This one's a little complicated. I'm going to say that if you're looking for a quick and lightweight monster tamer genre game as something to play as a form of comfort food, I would instead do Dokimon (by the same developer). If you are looking for a piece of work that shows some of…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Its basically pre-2000 Pokemon with some updated features, looking forward to seeing what is developed from this early access title.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Early impressions, it's Early Access alright. A lot is currently missing, items there's a menu but no items yet. The dex isn't ready yet either so you can't check info on the various Nuu. Visually it's great, than static sprites following you. Just a little animation would go a long way. And I would adjust the battle screen's "floor" because it's too close to the sprite colors in my opinion. Music is okay, I assume it's free from somewhere but it's not used well. It's just on a random loop…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →while still very early in development, nuumonsters shows alot of promise with the groundwork already laid down! i hope that the game continues to get bigger and better!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A broken unfinished mess that hasn't been updated in 2 years. The retro style is nice looking, but that's it. There's no way to use items in fights, you can't switch to specific monsters only to the next in line, when you whiteout you go back to your starting house. It crashes, softlocked me once, very f***ing confusing. The griding isn't just anoying but boring, and you will need to grid. No story, unclear directions, creature design is lacking. Don't bother with this, there are way better…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →While I like the aesthetics and a lot of gameplay decisions, I have to not recommend this for a lot of reasons. There are so many quality of life enhancements that are missing to make this playable. Most importantly controller support, or the option to actually move the windowed game. The fact that the menus are this restrictive and the game itself feels like you're unable to properly view anything from name to hp, to even abilities is beyond me. The entire power balance also seems really…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I played the new version of this game all the way through. It's only a few hours long and while I found enjoyment from it, Dokimon: Quest is significantly more polished. Nuumonster's achievements don't work. I only unlocked one randomly in the middle of my playthrough. The game wouldn't show up on my taskbar, so whenever the game was minimized, I would need to close it to reaccess it. Many NPCs are broken and can't be interacted with, and even the area at the very end of the game broke on…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →at first i honestly thought the game looked cute but the more i get into it , it gets better and better. this is not the perfect game, it doesn't have a story so far and it's in an early access, i heard people saying its 15$, but where i am it's around 8$, it's to support an indie developer who works alone and doing their best, the monsters are so adorable when you pass the first Elite you found even more and more monsters. it's fun and it's worth the try honestly, it won't have too much…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →TLDR This game, even the ‘remade’ version, is filled with bugs that heavily detract from the gameplay experience. I must recommend people skip this game due to their existence. Review Nuumonsters had the potential to be a short but cute game but unfortunately it fails in many regards. The lack of story hampers much of it; there is little rhyme or reason for progressing areas beyond needing to reach the correct threshold to battle higher ranked 'elite trainers'. This would be…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →0 Explanation on this game? What is the classic version and what is the difference between the classic and the "remake"? How do I know if a move is physical or special? What is AP and EP? Burst mode what? Im so confused pls. Achievements only work on the classic version that is a worse version of the normal one (final version) even after 5 years the dev didn't fix it... I tried the classic version and there isn't even an option to open my party, check my monsters and their stats it just appears…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is a true love letter to the old (first gen) Pokemon games. You can clearly see the inspiration but it differs enough to stand out. I did like the game a lot and just finished the new "remake" version! Most reviews here are sadly from the first launch when the game was still in early access. I did buy it at release but did not find the time to start it back then (and also forgot about it). The game is complete by now and at the current sate it's more than worth playing! The pacing…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Quite a good game. Made with love for details. I like all the little signs and interactive objects. The graphic is great and I like that you can costumise the color of the game itself. It has fullscreen but also "smallscreen". I really like this game. . . ~ Oh and i won this game as a price for a design competition (for more informations, see nyankos discord)
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I will preface this review with pointing out that it is not a finished game. It was a precursor to Dokimon: Quest, (Dokimon spoiler ahead)and almost the entire game is included as the post-game "alt-region" in Dokimon. That being said, it is very unique and engaging. The concept of AR monsters gives me Megaman Battle Network vibes, which is a great setting. Contrary to what some other reviews have said, it does have a light story, and it does have an inventory. The developer has plans to remake…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A good start to an early access the thing its missing for me is controller support, and getting rid of animations
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I had originally posted a review, but decided to delete it to completely re-do it after giving it another chance at least for the achievements. So, there's Nuumonsters, which, from what I understand, is a redone complete version, and Nuumonsters (Classic), which I assume is the original, hence the name, but incomplete. I'm going to review both by comparing their pros and cons. I had to play Nuumonsters (Classic) to be able to unlock the achievements because with Nuumonsters it wasn't working.…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Early access of a retro take on the monster catching genre. In artstyle, it's very alike Pokemon Red/Blue, and gameplay wise it's got its own system. Instead of gyms, you have elo & elite trainers, & beating the elite trainers will unlock new areas. Transparent and helpful dev. They listen to feedback in their discord (in my example, I gave some feedback about achievements, and it got fixed pretty fast). More content / updates in the works. Game has got a good potential!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Nuumonsters can best be described as a Pokémon-like. It can also be described as a retro monster collecting RPG that features both random battles in specific tiles, and fixed battles against trainers than also possess teams of up to 6 creatures called "nuumonsters". Battles are turn-based, and each of these creatures can use up to four moves which can either damage the enemy, inflict status effects or heal. You get the gist: it's Pokémon. And that's not a bad thing at all! Pokémon-like games…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I seriously cannot bring myself to continue this game. First and foremost, the game is riddled with bugs and glitches, rendering it simply unplayable. Every name of every move in battle is shuffled with effects, descriptions, and damage that don't match, which makes it simply impossible to even know what you're doing. Additionally, the difficulty scaling is awful. Elite trainers have weaker monsters than those found in the wild or from random trainers. When moving from one area to the other,…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I love Pokemon/Monster battler games but this one has no real innovation. No evolutions, Type advantage is very one-lined/ no variety in it. The gameplay itself is repititive. I have gotten 100% achievement but it was not FUN at all. The only unique mechanic is that when your monster level up it gains full HP and MP again, even during mid battle, which I think shouldn't be the case. I love the artstyle, the nostalgic Pokemon GB sprites but thats about it. Not worth it
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The game is very enjoyable from the peaceful soundtrack to the ping you get from catching a new monster. Keeping in mind its early access somethings could be made clearer, like for example perhaps in the pause menu a place where you can see the controls, or perhaps adjusting the dialog from some NPCS made easier to understand, For those who don't know how to think. For the price of roughly $22, id say its worth it, the game currently has 20ish monsters to catch and Nyanko (Dev) has already…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is the perfect tribute to Pokemon Red and Blue because it's just as if not more buggy LOL I enjoyed it and I think it's fun and cute but it is so unpolished. I have a high tolerance for that sort of thing but if you don't I suggest you don't buy it...
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →You know that feeling when you're craving something to eat, then you go out and get it, and your order was messed up? That's how it feels to play this game. This game is 3 years into their 6 month early access, and the last update was in November. It was for bug fixes. The last update before that was in 2022. Also bug fixes. There hasn't been a real content update in over a year, which is double what the Early Access was supposed to be. That should tell you all you need to know right there.…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Music, Gameplay, and overall enjoyment I got out of this game are all 10/10 although its not finished its easy to see where the game is going and I cannot wait to play and stream along the way
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Neumunsters is a game that is very charming because of the design of its monsters and surroundings. The game also shows a lot of potential with all of the planned content. Nyanko also patches a lot of bugs really quickly and tries to add new stuff as soon as possible which is quite astonishing if you consider that they make by themselves. I personally would say that the game is worth its current price explicitly if you consider that it will get more content over time.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Didn't like the game. I got stuck in Snoberri because Momoka wasn't in her house nor in the route 07, the boshii keeps saying "waka waka". I'm at 1400 Elo and beat every trainers at least once. I won't play this game anymore.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's very cute and clearly a lot of effort was put into it as an homage to 1st/2nd gen pokemon, but it feels clunky to play, is lacking overall polish, and is buggy. I immediately ran into a bug with the first 'quest' where an NPC didn't recognize that I have the right items (even though I had them), and it randomly resolved itself after entering and leaving the area (via a house). Another really annoying bug: The dialog box won't close if a direction is being held down. Stuff like this makes…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Dude, a Pokemon clone that links you to Twitter and Discord?? WTF?? I came in expecting a single player, offline game. Now this game NEEDS YOU to have a Twitter and Discord account?? EDIT: Fine, it doesn't actually FORCE YOU to log in to those platforms but I exercise MY RIGHT to QUESTION the need for those things on a game like this. The game BARELY explains anything, not even WHERE to buy healing items and "capture berrys". Achievements don't even work, not that I care about them much to…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Nuumonsters, developed and published by Yanako RPGs, is an ambitious indie project that seeks to capture the charm of classic monster-collecting RPGs while infusing it with a futuristic setting and a modernized gameplay framework. It’s clear from the outset that the game draws inspiration from the golden age of handheld monster-battling adventures, but it tries to expand beyond nostalgia by introducing its own world, lore, and mechanics. Players step into the shoes of either Yasaka or Yana,…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →If you haven't yet check out Dokimon: Quest :D that's the game I made after Nuumonsters and it's 40% off right now !! This game will be some several months before it's released
unlabelledView post →Could harly run the game. The game needs to recuce it's load. There is too many basic things they should not be doing that are causing lag. 1.) Using custom cursers causes lag, 2.) You have no option to control the boarder at all and using more resources then needed. This happens to RPG XP games in Fullscreen.. There is no option to turn this off. The solitare match games from Wal-mart have this same issue. To fix it I turn off the custom cursers. Linux just does not like…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I'm writing this as of the latest update of this month. At the state it is in, it is unplayable. Here are what I encountered: - no real story so there's no incentive to progress, - psudo-controller support, meaning you still have to use the mouse to navigate to the menus, - why switching your monster is in 'Special', and - no way to switch your monster to your preferred one. There was a bug where when I accidentally pressed 'Capture' and then the HP bar just disappeared. I just didn't know…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The graphics are nice looking (pokemon aesthetic) but the music is kinda boring, should be lofi or chip for this kind of game. the story needs work but im geussing your working on that. walk animation cute and fun opening areas look clean. keep it up :) looking farward to your updates.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Pre-dokimon, dokimon
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is more of a mixed review than a full-on positive. I personally had a lot of fun with it and have no regrets, but that can't be said for everyone as it does have a lot of flaws. If you like the original Gen 1 Pokemon games, then you'll probably enjoy it. That being said, it is a very short game and the full price is not worth it (I got it on sale during the full release discount). It is also very glitchy and buggy - none of the moves do what they say they do and act completely…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →FINALLY FULL GAME Edit after playing the game: Ok, so, what can I say? Overall it's a cute little game, both versions are the stars here, another review already explained how this game can show you the hard reality of making a game, so I'm not going to dig too deep into that, I am going to give just my personal opinion. I am really happy that, even after all these years, it finally got finished, and clearly was made with a lot of love behind, why do I say this? Because otherwise, without…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I enjoy the animations and attention to detail the developer has put in :)
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It had made me intrigued.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game have been getting updated, has a kind discord community, and keeps getting better. It is a lot like Pokemon, however it is a little different having its own appeal.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Fun creature catching game.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Cute little monster game
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →a cool retro style game
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Cute little pokemon clone. If you're into oldschool, specificically generations 1-2 pokemon it might be of interest.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Overall, I would say this game is a 6/10, as a review for a casual player. If you can get it on sale and you're feeling curious, you could do far worse. However, I didn't buy this game to play casually, but rather to study it. I have an interest in making my own mon game at some point, and I know this creator went on to make Dokimon (which I intend to play later). I felt like it'd be helpful to see what might be achievable in my own first project, as well as what concepts do and don't work. I…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A very charming game!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Fun little game. Very short and not quite finished, but it's being remade in the devs Monmae engine and I'm excited to see what comes of it.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The game loop is excellent; plays similar to Pokemon with nice twists. It also has adorable retro visuals and great music! It looks like the developer completed a final update for their previous game, and will be prioritising updates for this game moving forward (year 2025+).
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Nuumonsters is a fun, good-natured tribute to the Gen 1 Pokemon games. Developer is friendly, hard-working, and honest. Bugs are detected and fixed, and development on the game is ongoing. The premise of being an AR game gives an interesting spin on the genre. The experience reminds me of "D Shoot" ... inside joke, ignore that...(reference to the fake Pokemon Diamond released in the 90's, which was a modified Telefang ROM...)
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →this is a pokemon game. fantastic.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is a pokemon clone, and its still a work in progress. Has potential.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I started my game choosing Kusano who looks like a ghost Nuumonster. I was disappointed with no Background music when I started playing the game. The September update has fixed this music problem. As I type my review, I am still battling towards my goal of the 40 Nuumonsters Achievement. You must battle Elites to earn enough ELO to unlock more areas. Press Tab during battles to learn about your opponent's weakness. The developer has posted a great help guide online that explains everything.…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →If you're a bit disillusioned with the usual monster collection RPGs these days, feeling like they are soulless repeat releases that are too stuck in their formula to be enjoyable... Well, I can't promise that this would be wildly different but it is a step in a different direction! The game is in a very early stage of development. The music is clunky, the battle system is odd (you can't swap out or even choose which monster goes in next, it automatically swaps in according to the order you set…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Good aproach to Pokemon like game but it will be a lot better and friendly for player if we could switch monsters in battle, it's not satisfying to know that you loose battle from the begining when enemy have type advantage over you :P
