The "advance" party which is an authoritarian left party in the game is clearly meant to be a stand in for the UK's green party and similar parties. If this bothers you, I personally wouldn't buy the game.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Extremely fun game, extremely fun concept. Too bad it's Centrist slop that wants to have an "Enlightened Centrist" stance to such a degree that they're force themselves to make both sides in the game have the comical consistency of a thirteen year old Nazi/Stalinist with not a single sensical reason for half of their actions. If you can get past that, I highly recommend it, I'm just leaving a negative review because I believe Centrists are the most annoying people on the planet barely capable…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This current political moment makes me hate Not For Broadcast so much more because they had such an amazing idea for a game but in a world where the hard right has been gaining power across the world, their idea of authoritarianism was people being too mean about taxing the rich lol
unlabelledView post →Great cast and acting, and the actual video mixing is a blast. Too bad it’s all wrapped around a smug centrist take where you’re the idiot (the actual player not your cleaner turned broadcast controller character) for believing anything. I can’t stress that enough, the story is a both-sides satire so desperate to look clever that it gaslights you as the game bends over backwards to make you feel like an idiot no matter what you do. Outside of the story, BTW this is a story heavy game, the…

unlabelledView post →Hey so my DUMB ASS might have gotten carpal tunnel in my right arm. We've got Not For Broadcast set up for Thursday and Friday, and I was wondering if anyone knows if the game requires a lot of mouse movement?
unlabelledView post →There's a game with really solid gameplay and design called "Not For Broadcast" where you're a live TV editor in a dystopian UK, but it's ruined because it's a stupid af woke anti rich dystopia lol
unlabelledView post →One of my favorite games, Not for Broadcast, is on sale for 75% off right now! It's an FMV game about being a live television producer, working behind the scenes to keep the news running while the anchors grapple with the country sliding into a dystopia. store.steampowered.com/app/1147550/...

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Worth playing for sure, but the really weird politics only felt weirder this time around. I think it would have been better and more effective if it wasn't trying to be so quirky the whole time. There are really genuine moments of pathos that are undercut by constant jokes. Plus, (despite the game clearly disliking both parties it presents) the things it decides to present as evil for Advance are... strange. Like maybe I'm just too woke but are we really still making a big deal about tax cuts…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Now that I played the entire game I can actually give a sensible review. You can read the summarized version here: PRO - The actors had a stunning performance, I genuinely loved all of them - Camera work is well done - The controls are easy to master and the game play elements are pretty alright - Your decisions actually have consequences and it's really fun to see them play out - It was a pretty immersive experience, I really did feel as if I was managing this broadcast and it does seem like…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The best use of live action actors in a video game that I have ever seen. I'm doubtful it will offer any replay value, but I had a fantastic time completing one play through. Long live Jeremy Donaldson.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I reference Not For Broadcast in my next video, and god that game was so cool. I got sponsored to make this video on it, but the company just wanted a regular Writing on Games vid with no creative oversight or spin whatsoever, and I remain happy with the end result. Need to revisit this.
unlabelledView post →It feels like a Job (in a good way) Review after first playthrough (not gonna do 12 more playthrough). So it feels like a job cause you are playing as a broadcaster which is new experience. You are actively managing the news, at first its fairly easy but than they keep adding new stuff which makes it little stressful hence difficult option is there. Great simulation, Great acting and VAs. It has added story too which makes it quite unique, choices to matter based on what you do in…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The satire is incredibly unsubtle and unfunny, the brand of totally nonsensical centrism (the rebel group that uses violence is just as bad the government they're rebelling against that started a literal ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ nuclear war) is exhausting, and most importantly, the moment-to-moment gameplay isn't even remotely fun enough to make up for that. Most of the time it's an incredible slog full of little busywork tasks. The performances by the actors are pretty good but they can't redeem the stinking…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I really want to sing as many praises for this game as a can, even if i didn't like it in the end. Genuinely this game has so many amazing things about it, the gameplay is fantastic, the controls were easy to understand and the actors did a phenomenal job I would've considered this a 10/10 game if not for the story. It feels like in order to make the game feel like your choices matter in a bigger way, the devs chose to slip in too much "both sides" of a political argument, because if there was…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Wonderful Game I picked this up for less than $10 USD with all of its DLC on sale. I'm a huge fan of telltale games and choose your own adventure games. Some of my favorite games include The Wolf Among Us, Dispatch, The Walking Dead, etc. I have a HUGE soft spot for the genre. So, what is this game? It's a mix of a Full Motion Video (FMV) game & a choose your own adventure with elements of a game like Papers, Please tossed in. It also lightly reminds me of Five Nights at Freddy's - you…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Has the most bland poorly written political slop story in-between incredible gameplay and entertaining scenes. For example, one morning you receive a letter from the political party you've been supporting. I have been going purely reasonable as my first playthrough. Someone asks for my passport because they're going to steal his money and give it to the poor, I say no. This makes me think of the trans people who are, in America at least, losing the ability to exist legally once their passport…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →One of the best games I've ever played; endlessly brilliant, funny, and amazing. Whether you're interested in FMV games, video editing games, or games where even the smallest of choices *have consequences* -- Not For Broadcast will more than sate your desire. The only warning I'll give is to not take its factional politics too seriously. They're not bad, but the factions exist solely within the confines of the game, and they're intended to leave you divided on them.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Amazing game. 1000% British humor Very politically incorrect in every possible way, making fun of the stupidity of politics and people, regardless of side. Just get it. It's tons of fun
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Awesome awesome game, loved it so much. When writing this I have 41 hours, have completed the main story 4 times, and played all the DLC's. This game is not for everyone, I definitely think its a niche game and I certainly think it can fall under the title of interactive movie, but not in a bad way by any means. First thing I would say if you buy this game: PLAY IT ON STORY MODE! Try the other difficulties at some point just to see the mechanics and those parts of the game, but for me…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →9 hours in for one complete playthrough is really good for a game mostly FMV like this and I'm quite upset I hadn't played it sooner. Something nice niche that I noticed was the character we play as. Alex, Alex has a spouse called Sam. They are BOTH only recognised with "They, Their, Them, They're" pronouns and it's very normalised. This might be one of the first games that I've played with a true non binary character and spouse where they're not forcing you to think if you're playing a man,…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This was an interesting concept for a game, but I didn't find the execution really engaging. It was kind of cool to see the idea, but I couldn't get very far, it just wasn't interesting enough. I'm sure there are plenty of people who will like it, but people like me just won't enjoy it.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →wishing I discovered this gem sooner. a solid game, with some great lore & humour & fun gameplay. a favourite discovery in recent. you take control as Alex, a cleaner turned broadcaster. and your job? you dictate how the public perceives news, celeb gossip & the truth, in a totalitarian regime. you decide what is NOT FOR BROADCAST. after sinking a solid amount of time into the ps & pc version respectively, it is definitely a one of a kind game. 10/10 would get shocked again
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →3 and a half hours in. LOVE the concept, really not impressed with the execution at all. Here are some reasons why: - The tonal shift between broadcast segments and home life segments is jarring and does not lead to a cohesive experience. - A huge portion of the FMV material is comedic, but quite rarely is it actually funny. Generally, scenes involving drama between the reporters or talking to government figures are well written, but they are spaced between largely unfunny and uninsightful…

unlabelledView post →The game itself is very fun, but the centrism of it all is enormously irritating. The gameplay is innovative, the acting and production is top notch, and the rewards for curiosity, to go back and see what you might have missed, are plentiful. It takes up an egregious amount of storage, however, when you think about how much FMV is in this it kinda tracks. The humor connects when it isn't overshadowed by the lack of position. The biggest issue, however, with this game, are the text moments. They…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is arguably one of the best games off the last decade. It is put together perfectly. I love this game. It truly is one of those "choices matter" games. You can back an extreme government or an equally extreme radical organization that may attempt to overthrow it. It really is all up to you when it comes to how the story will play out. 10/10 game for me.

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I am genuinely annoyed at myself for not picking up this game earlier when it's popped up on my homepage and waiting 3 years down the line for a sale. This game really is that good. It just has everything, phenomenal acting, great humour, biting satire with a great understanding of what it is commenting on, a fun and rewarding gameplay loop that adds more than enough complexity to give you a level of challenge, fantastic twists and endless choice. I could gush about this game for hours, it…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A bunch of Not For Broadcast art from a little while back! Love this game. 📺
unlabelledView post →Absolutely amazing game, I have not finished it at the time of writing my review, However! The game is so immersive and has such a unique play-style, being able to see all the behind the scenes of the news station is very very cool and on top of that playing a multi-choice story is a very interesting choice. For anyone wondering, this is not playable on current steam deck proton, so to anyone who reads this and wants to play this game, I would recommend putting your game into at least…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →- Hilarious storyline. I liked the satirical tone of the narrative, while talking about serious topics. - Game mechanics are simple, clear but not always easy in execution, since you have several ongoing ones. - So the game is great from both story and gameplay perspectives.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The resources on display for this game are astounding. Hundreds of actors, performing for 15 minutes at a time without cuts. Multiple song and dance routines. Some 50 hours of footage. And it's used tell a political story that, in one playthrough with multiple people watching, nobody could figure out what the game was even trying to say. Completely inscrutable. But then I watched all the possible endings and things became clearer. This is a game that above all else stresses the importance…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is one of those games where I’m going to be chasing the way it made me feel for months if not years. The acting is phenomenal and really makes you feel attached to the characters, which makes you really think before making decisions within the game. Also, the musical numbers are surprisingly good???
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I had this game on top of my wishlist for quite some time. Unfortunately, it failed to meet my expectations. I didn't particularly enjoy the humor or the politics, and most of all, I didn't enjoy anything from the game between broadcasts. Between broadcasts, the game is more like a visual novel with lots of reading and choosing some options, but the underlying story wasn't interesting to me at all. During the broadcasts, the game throws a lot of (silly) "minigames" at you that are trying to…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →If you like the charm of old FMV games, absurdist humour and games with political commentary, I recommend playing Not for Broadcast. There's hours of recorded content, it's genuinely impressive how much is packed into this game for its price, and the actors' performances are great! I will say, if you're expecting super insightful political commentary (at least from a left-wing perspective anyway) this game doesn't really have that. The focus is more on the effects of propoganda and how the…

unlabelledView post →While this game has a cool concept and cool mechanics it ultimately follows the South Park school of political thought, which means it uses a lot of words to say absolutely nothing of worth. Full of talk about 'balance' and 'both sides are just as bad as each other' (the most lukewarm take to hit steam this decade) at the start it then nose dives into a story line so unrealistic and uninteresting that it can't even be called 'satire' any more. It pushes a weird narrative that seems to be saying…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I heard about this game being good. What i didnt expect was the emotional attachment i'd get towards the end. Further more i didn't realise that it would take me 12 hours for me to get 1 out 14 endings, yeah im still going to try to get them all xD
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Pentiment then, Vampire Survivors now because it’s one of my favourite games of all time and I still play it on my phone on flights, the definition of an addictive game. Honourable mention to Not For Broadcast because it’s silly, British and surprisingly competent, a bit like me.
unlabelledView post →Wow, what an AMAZING game! An absolute must-play. Seriously. Very innovative format and, above all, a story-driven experience that ACTUALLY got its stuff together: > Great story > Wacky yet interesting characters > Solid dialogue > Superb world-building > Choices TRULY matter. > Innovative (and amazing) FMV usage. As for any story-driven game, it's best if you go in blindly regarding the story and everything else. It got me tense, laughing, worried and, above all, invested in the…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →One of my most favourite games. You should give it a try if you like: - British humour - having your beliefs questioned - discussions about philosophy and/or politics - catchy songs - well-written characters (with some of them being quite unhinged) - media, journalism - choices matter games (esp. with unexpected consequences) - games with great replayability - good DLCs
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is utterly amazing. Zany and nuts, overtly British in every way and highly underrated. Quite possibly one of the best games I’d played in years. May not appeal to the international audiences but I loved it. Part cringe, part hilarity, both entirely intentional. This politically charged game (along with the DLC which is arguably even better than the main game itself), it’s challenging but has so much replay value, which you never get from interactive movies. It’ll keep you on your…

I have to keep telling myself, “Do NOT prototype a board game, just relax a minute.”

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Very intergning concept and execuated very well! One of a kind game- if you're on the fence like I was just go for it! Lots of things to do and lots of stuff effects the ending! very cool stuff Only gripe I have with the game really is the lack of skipping if you keep playing after your first walkthrough. It's tedious and time consuming.

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It feels like they couldn't commit to the bad guys being right or left wing (when imo the choice is obvious) and decided to blend it up despite it making the bad guy corp look less corrupt, which maybe was the point? But the resistance says they regret the wealthy loosing their wealth multiple times. The resist group saying "you know not all the rich are evil" when all that happened to them was loosing their insane wealth to give to the poor, next to mandated gov ID cards, and nuclear war on…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I'm writing this review on a Friday evening, after work: I want to get back to playing "Not for Broadcast" ASAP. This game deserves a far better review than this, but here is the key point: - You want to play this game. It is an absolute masterpiece! On my shortlist of favorites with "The Outer Wilds" and "The Stanley Parable" Buy this now.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The act of switching between cameras, cutting away to ads, and getting control of the bleep button alone makes this worth every penny. The acting is also top tier. My big issue is with the evil stuffies (they broke the immersion for me) and the bits of the story that aren't progressed through the broadcast room. If I wanted to play The Oregon Trail, I would be doing that instead.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →TL:DR | great game lots of depth Not for broadcast is a broadcasting simulator where your choices change the story dramatically. Its mechanics are simple, its world is deep and its characters are deeper and each hour feels like half a day I honestly couldn’t have guessed that I had less than 40 hours in this game and that’s including several replays and DLCs because each moment of gameplay is so rich and active that your brain rarely has the time to zone out and forget the passage of time.…
