The game's premise is centered around members of the Grim Squad as they descend the Abyss, which consists of a series of levels with procedurally generated rooms, in pursuit of powerful entities known as the New Gods. Even worse, some of those bugs are game-breaking. I currently cannot progress because the bugs prevent me from doing so because they force me to restart my runs all of the time. The bug I get stuck with most often is one that makes me unable to jump down/move down through platforms - this often causes me to get stuck with no way to move through rooms because…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is a fine game, I just really wish you could save and return to runs like in other roguelikes I've played. I don't always have time to definitely sit down for 2 hours and play videogames.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Contains many bugs, some of which are 6+ years old. On each of my runs, a bug occurs that completely negates the ability to go down through platforms, forcing me to restart each time.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It looks pretty but that's about it. Spoilers below if you care. The game has not received an update for an extremely long time, likely because Neon Abyss 2 has released (which I would also not recommend...but I digress). Also don't let my low playtime fool you, I have longer in this game on GOG (85 hours currently). I initially got it there as part of a bundle and then got it here just recently. Pros The gameplay loop is pretty fast Difficulty mostly comes in the form of challenges. The…

Overall I enjoyed the game because I was using the character that can see descriptions, but as I don't even want to finish it because it's cons are so big and I couldn't find mods to fix them, I wouldn't recommend it to others. - You can't see what an item does unless you choose a specific character or collect a specific RNG item that gives the ability to see item descriptions. Playing a roguelike…

unlabelledView post →This game is comparable to binding of Isaac or Hades, but it is not nearly as good. The upgrades you get aren't interesting. They don't really change the way you play. A lot of upgrades just increase damage or give key or bomb drops when certain things happen. You can change weapons, but many of them aren't worth using. Items don't synergize like they do in binding of isaac. There aren't really any interesting combinations of items. It makes all the runs feel the same, and it gets repetitive…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Tried it out for a few runs and was immediately put off by the controls and game design. The game expects you to platform correctly but the jump button is strangely pushing a stick up or a shoulder button, but the most obvious button which is A, is for Interact. But you're also expected to shoot with the right stick, like a Twin Stick shooter, but instead of having a Trigger button to fire when you want to for accuracy, it's done by pressing the direction of the right stick. But it's not a Twin…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Like others have said its super hard to distinguish your bullets from the enemies, they should have made enemy bullets overlay your own so you could always see them. The melee form feels too much like a gimmick than to be actually useful. Also a lot of items do nearly the same thing, a lot of the items icons don't really have anything to do with the item in question which makes it somewhat of a bad user experience from selecting items. Besides that I would say it is a fresh take on a…

unlabelledView post →Honestly I'm trying REALLY hard to like this game, but it's just not possible. It just feels like playing a game with a lot of slight inconveniences placed around. Oh! There's a door/chest here that you have to play slots to open - but sometimes it'll randomly 'break' and you'll be barred from getting the mediocre loot that's behind it. Oh! There's a challenge room where you fight rounds of enemies but sometimes there's a thing in the middle that shoots a laser just because. It's not…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I tried it twice, i can't get into it, gameplay feels clunky, it's sometimes hard to differentiate ennemis / bullets from background, the only way you get damage is when you start a room, all ennemies appear at once and you get overwhelmed no matter what you do, items doesn't give you the feeling you are getting stronger. There's probably more to say, if you have the choice, take enter the gungeon for exemple
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The games first impression is so much fun! It is your typical rougelike game, lots of weapons, lots of upgrades, lots of enemies and randomly generated dungeons. There are so many good upgrades, if you get a good run, you'll feel invincible, while other runs can feel impossible. There are a lot of negative combinations for items aswell, so as long as you don't know what which item does, you'll suddenly end up for example with explosive shots that constantly kill yourself, because you got no…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Sequels don’t need to be revolutionary, and that’s the case with Neon Abyss 2. This game keeps the fun and chaos of the original, with some small improvements that make the experience even better. I can’t wait to discover the new Hatchmon and crazy weapons. #indiegame #indiedev #demo

I can stomach small glitches like broken menu controls, but not bugs that either erase my overall game progress or make collections impossible to complete (these were two separate issues, BTW).
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Good game. Don't let reviews from basement dwellers convince you otherwise. This is a fun, addictive and beautiful game with a lot of content. Got it on sale for less than $5 and I am having a blast playing after work. Streamers and people with no jobs and no real life problem living with mom and dad may think otherwise, but they live in another reality.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A strangely addictive roguelite soaked in neon colors. There are so many different weapons and items....making every run feel fresh and exciting. The game has a huge replayability thanks to the way it's designed and played. A very good price for so much game time.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →As long as the game continues to crash or bug out within 10-20 min I can't recommend the game. I think it could be fun otherwise.

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Uh... Hades, maybe? Or Neon Abyss. I don't beat a lot of games. BG3 is my favorite game in the whole wide world, but I've only beaten it 4 or 3 or 4 times because it takes 200 freaking hours.
unlabelledView post →When playing with mouse and keyboard, than this game is a solid 6/10. When *TRYING* to play it with a controller, it barely deserves a 2/10. It has one of the worse controller experiences I've ever seen, which is a shame. They've fixed most of the controller issues in Neon Abyss 2, but they just decided to not back port it to the original.

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I like this game, I do. Got it for about $7 on a sale. Pretty standard blueprint for a 2d rogue-lite. I really enjoy the hatching-eggs-pet mechanic. A dodge would be nice but maybe I am just used to other similar games. My biggest complaint is how hard it is to differentiate between your bullets and the enemies attacks. Overall though, well worth a sale purchase, minimum.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's so very good that it's hard to describe. I used to play this game on Xbox years ago and its such a lovely time to play it again recently, Many many memory's coming back nostalgia is an awesome thing. I do miss the old progression maps for the characters and some Items like film magazine and police badge, other than that its plain awesome
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Neon Abyss is an absolute gem of a roguelike with smooth and fast paced gameplay. There's an arsenal of crazy guns to slaughter with, plenty of items that stack well to make some insane builds, and a killer soundtrack to get you into the action. All that paired with an aesthetic that looks so damn radical. There's heaps to sink your teeth into and discover about this game, the characters are vastly different from each other, and the bosses are iconic, and a lot to unlock. They've really…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Super fun roguelite platform shooter with an addicting gameplay loop. Hours will pass before you realize you just missed work or class. Just like all the other Hentai Games on Steam, get this game on discount.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Neon lights and great music really get you in the zone. Lots of weapons and items with some cool synergies. Great replayability with the procedurally generated levels and upgrades making changes to your dungeon. This game is just the right level of challenge. I don't feel like I am dying constantly but also not an invincible beast running through levels. Definitely recommended.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Bought DLC I didn't need for Neon Abyss 2 because I felt guilty for getting the game for free and wanted to give them something for entertaining me. On the one hand, I wish I had less guilt. On the other, I wish other people had more...?

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Oh my f*cking god the wisdom/malice mechanic is going to drive me insane. I've played a good bit of this game and have gone on to create 2 save files because frankly I have given up on trying to even access the cursed bosses. Hitting the crystal devices SHOULD NOT AFFECT YOUR METER. I cannot tell you how many times my run has been killed by an enemy hitting a crystal device while in a room. It's a completely unfair coincidence that can kill your run in less than a couple frames. I really enjoy…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I enjoyed the game itself, but I can't recommend it in its current state. Menu input is broken across the board — both controller and keyboard have the same issues. Trying to remap buttons causes input to stop responding entirely, and even simple things like changing resolution require multiple presses that may or may not register. Hold off until these issues are patched.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I love this game, and haven't been able to stop playing it recently! I really like the randomness and combos that you can make, sometimes I've had runs where I'm shooting 10 bullets and take almost no damage. I do find the wisdom/violence mechanic kind of annoying sometimes though. I've had several cursed athena runs that were ruined because I was at almost full wisdom charge, and I take one bit of damage. That converts the wisdom to violence, and I have to completely restart the run just so I…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Outclassed by Enter the Gungeon or Nuclear Throne. Crystals are almost useless, your gun doesn't matter, it only matters how many upgrades for it you can get.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →i really want to give this a thumbs up, if i was 12 i definitely would 100% , but the game just doesnt scratch that Metroid Nostalgia, its fun but not for long. havent even unlocked more than 1 character and i dont care? its worth a try, its fast paced, large ahh variety of weapons and skills, decent music, which slows down after a fight, adn with quick fights ... its a rollecoaster
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The biggest hinderance of being a great game is the controls. The movement, gunplay and the enemies all feel off. Everything feels slow and clunky at the same time.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Very flashy and eye-candy colors! High replayability thanks to the many possible builds you can experiment in each random run. Expect some crazy results when combining together strong power-ups!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I am in 4 hours into the game and so far i am having a good time, my first ever rogue like game, the design is good. the weapon variety is good. envoirments look cool, enemies and bosses are pretty challenging. there are characters and some characters have a unique ability. so far my fav character is the one i bought from DLC, the girl with the katana. it is difficult but really fun and i am not stopping anytime soon. wish me luck
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Really awesome game thats cheap to pick up. massive ammounts of weapons, abilites and perks. and the bosses are varied. the controlls are also tight. I would reccomend giving this game a go.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's not a tremendously bad game, there's plenty to like, if you like it. I enjoyed the weapon variety, item variety, and the ability to remove both from the item pool. It's a negative review because unlike with a similar game, The Binding of Isaac, there are plenty of issues. There's often too much visual clutter to tell what's a threat/projectile, it's tedious to remove items and guns from the pool, items often don't pick up if picked up in quick succession, you just kick them around…

unlabelledView post →It's okay, but doesn't feel exceptional in any way really. I never felt like any of the weapons or upgrades I was getting were encouraging any particular play style or approach. I wasn't "making a build" so much as picking up whatever was on the ground, or using whatever I bought in the shop just because it cost all my money. It took almost 5 hours just to reveal the second page of the skill tree and none of the skills in either of the first two trees were inspiring or intriguing.
