Mystery, Alaska
In Mystery, Alaska, life revolves around the legendary Saturday hockey game at the local pond. But everything changes when the hometown team unexpectedly gets booked in an exhibition match against the New York Rangers. When quirky small-towners, slick promoters and millionaire athletes come together. From TMDB

The locals didn't wear perfectly matched sets of toque, scarf, mittens like you get in a gift set. It looked like they were grabbing their winter accessories out of a pile everyone in the family had access to.

unlabelledView post →Everyone loves the "best baseball movies" debate, but my real hot take is that the best hockey movie of all time is not Slap Shot or Miracle or Youngblood, but Mystery, Alaska. And it's not close.
unlabelledView post →Mystery, Alaska, btw, is a banger of a movie. It's dirty, funny, occasionally dumb, and has some absolute great throwaway lines. Plus, TREE, who my friend BJ apparently knows. clip.cafe/mystery-alas...

unlabelledView post →In the movie Mystery, Alaska, the local hockey team tried to chill the visiting NY Rangers (outdoor rink) by getting the anthem singer to add the Canadian anthem to pregame. Good thing, too, since the movie was filmed in Canmore, AB. The anthem singer was Little Richard.

Last night, after >30 minutes of scrolling through every movie on every app, my father opts for Mystery, Alaska, because it was shot in the town I grew up in and we were extras for the big game. Wanted to see if we could spot anyone we knew in the bg.

unlabelledView post →Yeah, I was going to ask if it was set in Mystic, Connecticut, hence the name. Unlike Mystery, Alaska, it's a real place! But a marine biologist trying to save an ailing seal sounds like my kind of movie. I'd not heard of this one, so thanks for the tip.
