unlabelledView post →I bit the bullet and played Mortal Shell 2 ASAP and HOLY SHIT was that a wonderful decision It's not just a souls-like. A lot of it deliberately ISN'T a soulslike, and I think it's gonna turn away people who need to play this game yesterday. It's a methodical action game. That's different.
unlabelledView post →This game starts like a masterpiece. At the beginning everything feels right for a dark souls fan: - gloomy dark fantasy setting - checked - atmospheric castle with very enigmatic npcs - checked - spot on super dark and brilliant voice casting - checked - creepy village opponents and beasts - checked - Dark Ambient Gloomy soundtrack by Atrium Carceri - checked - After few encounters with enemies this feeling - "my god that is hard I need to GID GUD" - checked Also something new that tells you…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →There's a whole secret area in Mortal Shell II where it suddenly turns into a first person indie horror game, complete with item collection puzzles and jumpscares.
unlabelledView post →WARNING: This is not like the second game!!! I played the open BETA Demo of Mortal Sheel 2 and loved it a lot. So I thought it would be a great idea to try the first one. It's baaaaaad, very clanky and rough. The weapons feel weak and the enemies are tanky. If you like a very stiff and mean souls-like then this is your game but if you liked the Mortal shell 2 demo do NOT play this one. Save yourself the pain and suffering and wait for Mortal Shell 2

unlabelledView post →So, Mortal Shell. I am a huge souls(-like) fan and I played Mortal Shell for the first time June 22, 2022. But only for 73 minutes. That was it. I don't remember what it was that made me not want to play this, but apparently it didn't catch me. Fast forward to now (2026). Was watching the Iron Pineapple Video where he featured Mortal Shell II. I knew that it would be released but didn't really follow it too much. But IP's Video convinced me that Mortal Shell II will be a great Game. Combat…

unlabelledView post →✅ Dark and gritty atmosphere ✅ Souls-like gameplay ✅ Great graphics ✅ 'Harden' ability was really an innovative design ✅ You can play music with your flute (there's even an achievement for it. It's a pretty cool addition to the game) ❌ Enemy placement is just horrible. You'll be swarming in enemies occasionally. This makes the game extremely difficult. A souls-like game should NOT have this kind of stupid design ❌ Too much backtracking is necessary. There's NO fast travel in the game ❌…

unlabelledView post →I feel the need to write this review in light of all the noobs that played the mortal shell 2 beta for free, and then played their older title and started review bombing the mechanics for not being a carbon copy OF THE SEQUEL. - Combat: -this game is GREAT. newbies dont know that you can actually bind weapon swapping to your consumables slot. why does this matter? it means that you can swap weapons for free mid-combo. this opens up build and moveset options significantly because ANYTHING GOES…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Hahaha. I just found Doom E1M1 in Mortal Shell 2. This game is so dumb (positive) - calling it a night but looking forward to playing more tomorrow.
unlabelledView post →Oh, Mortal Shell II embargo is up. As the original was the game that got me into soulslikes, the sequel is the exact kind of sequel you want to see from studios. Extremely confident step-up. Fantastic map design, fun and impactful combat, much better bosses... it's a fantastic soulslike.
unlabelledView post →I only got one review out the door this week, but it was for a hell of a game. Hope everyone's been enjoying Mortal Shell 2.
unlabelledView post →Mortal Shell 2 ✅ Playtime: 32 hours ⏰ A huge step up from the first game and a fantastic souls-like. Pros: Beautiful environments, unique and fun boss fights, weapon variety. Cons: Lack of beacons (checkpoints) however more have been added in a recent update. Overall, a great game. 8/10

unlabelledView post →Not surprised but still very happy to see the glowing reviews for Mortal Shell 2. Yes, the first game was a bit wonky. It was a small studio's first ever game. Despite those rough edges it had FANTASTIC black metal vibes and art direction. Based on the demo, the sequel fixes just about all flaws.
unlabelledView post →Mixed review, Mortal Shell does things I do like and things I don't. Unfortunately not enough to make me want to finish the game Getting performance out of the way, the optimisation a very polished. Getting 200+ frames maxed out in 4k without DLSS, that's something you barely hear these days I do really like the combat animations but there is not enough weapons so they get old pretty quick, especially with the lacking variety of enemies, you will be fighting the same ones for a long time and…

unlabelledView post →I really wanted to like Mortal Shell. The first hour is actually great. The atmosphere nails that grim, decaying fantasy vibe right out of the gate. But the deeper you get, the more you realize how thin the experience actually is. The narrative tries hard to pull off the cryptic, fragmented storytelling of Dark Souls, but here it just feels empty. Mechanically, the game has one truly stellar idea - hardening. Freezing into stone mid-swing to let an enemy's weapon bounce off you, then…

unlabelledView post →This is going to sound really reductive, but Mortal Shell 2 from all the clips I've seen have been, "We've learned a lesson from the first game... what if we made a game fun?"
unlabelledView post →I started this game with the mindset "The reviews are mixed, but it looks pretty good, maybe it's atleast somewhat decent"... the mixed reviews are well deserved. THE POSITIVE (SINGULAR) - The only positive that I can give is that the graphics and atmosphere are very good. That's it. THE NEGATIVES - Imagine Dark Souls 2 Enemy Placement, but it's 10x worse. Enemys hiding around virtually every corner, got to close to a chest? Bunch of enemies spawn (literally out of thin air behind…

unlabelledView post →I can't BELIEVE this game isn't better than the second one!!! I tried the demo for Mortal Shell 2 and it was good, why is this game bad???? Why isn't the first game from the studio better than Elden Ring and Baldur's Gate 3 combined?? I GOT SCAMMED!!!!! But seriously the game is pretty fun. Definitely flawed and a little short but I had a good time. The only unforgivable feature is the viewbotting Fextralife link at the main menu, yikes!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Thinking about trying Mortal Shell 2. Is it any good as a tie-me-over until the Elden Ring Switch 2 drop? (Yes, I am a sucker and going to buy a game I already own because Souls game release days are special times for multiplayer nonsense.)
unlabelledView post →Immortal Hell Mortal Shell is a Souls-like game that tries to do a lot of very different things, and it succeeds in doing them, but fails in making them enjoyable. I tried Mortal Shell after it initially released and it really didn't click for me. I spent about 30 minutes wandering around, fighting the same 2 enemy types while looking for a way forward and never really did. So, with me not having any fun and having plenty of other interesting souls-like games to try out, I gave up on…

unlabelledView post →MORTAL SHELL TL;DR: Developer confirmed that you DO NOT need to play MS1 in order to get into MS2. This is such a relief truly! Having played the EXCELLENT Mortal Shell 2 BETA, it pains me to not recommend this game since it has WAY too many irritants to just stick to it and endure. The way the camera works in MS is truly the worst thing ever in a souls-like game. It is continuously going in all around you as soon as you move around with the 'A' and 'D' keys and it messes up the mouse look.…

unlabelledView post →A Beautiful Game That Forgot to Be Fun Mortal Shell tries so hard to be the next great Soulslike that it forgets what makes those games enjoyable in the first place. Instead of rewarding challenge, it often delivers frustration, awkward mechanics, and tedious design that feels more punishing than engaging. The combat revolves around the Hardening mechanic, which sounds clever on paper but quickly becomes repetitive. Rather than encouraging varied playstyles, every encounter feels like waiting…

unlabelledView post →I can't help but feel that something was lost between Mortal Shell 1 and 2. The new game lacks the jank of its predecessor, but also much of its creative spark. The first game has so many interesting design choices that feel sidelined in favor of an inferior sekiro parry.

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I finally completed 100% of Mortal Shell today and mastered everything the game has to offer. After roughly 60 hours of playtime, including earning the notoriously difficult "Forever Alone" achievement (a no-hit run through the entire game) and the challenging "No Lifer" achievement, I feel confident saying that I truly understand the game's mechanics. I often see people complaining that Mortal Shell is unfairly punishing or overly difficult. To be fair, I felt the same way when I first…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Not sure where all the negative reviews are from. I've not seen many crashes or crazy bugs in my 60 hours of play, so take those comments with a grain of salt. It's a small game made by a small team and should be commended for how well it was put together. This is a great souls-like game that changes the formula up. I wouldn't say its harder than other souls-likes, in fact, I'd say its maybe the most rewarding souls-like I've played. Once you get the rhythm of play down and lock into a shell…

unlabelledView post →I would say this game is a fairly decent soulslike. It does not do anything particularly groundbreaking. However, the graphics are solid. The gameplay is competent enough. I enjoyed my playthrough. It has many of the features you'd generally expect of a soulslike, with the hub-based world and slow, methodical, weighty-feeling gameplay. The different shells are a nice touch as well, giving you some options about how to approach gameplay depending on whether you want a faster, lighter, more…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Cold Symmetry revolutionized the genre by making the very first zone a poison swamp. The early game is very, very difficult and explains few of its systems. It's also short—probably took me less than 11 hours of active time to complete, and the first two and a half hours were almost entirely me confusedly running in circles in the starting zone. If you like the genre, wait for a sale and there's some good to be had, but it'll take time and stubbornness.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I wanted to play the OG Mortal Shell after playing and enjoying the Mortal Shell 2 open beta, and oh man not how I wanted it to go. There's no estus equivalent, which isn’t inherently bad by itself. I'm certainly okay with soulslikes wanting to break off from the Dark Souls formula. However, the ways you do heal are just abysmal. Scarce mushrooms that you rarely find and heal an unsatisfactory amount of health. They tried to help by making the resources respawn, but the timer is really not…

unlabelledView post →Almost didn't pick this game up because of the mixed reviews. Glad I ignored them. Doesn't seem like it's going to be a long game at this point after the first dungeon but it's a unique souls like experience that's worth experiencing. Based on what I've seen people say about Mortal Shell 2 and it's improvements, glad I played it before getting the new one.

Just.. skip this one. - All the places in falgrim look the same. - The devs have a weird fascination with holes. - Too much gank placements where you have to kite the enemies one by one. - Boss fights are terrible. - There is only a single strategy.
