Unfortunately I cannot recommend Monster Tribe, as in its current state it's a mess. First of all, it feels as if this game has an identity crisis. It wants to be an open world monster tamer with sandbox/resource gathering elements. None of these elements actually tie into each other beyond surface level connections though. Materials you harvest are only ever used to gate your progress, whether that be in the overarching plot of the game or gating you from getting new monsters. I only ever…

Monster combat is fun, but getting carpal tunnel from mashing f to harvest materials to be able to make monsters is not. Needs a mini-map, everything looks the same and it's way too easy to get lost, especially in the town. Crashed while going through the journal.

Neutral opinion on recommendation, but since Steam is a Y/N review system, I have to say no as it's more where I'm leaning towards. I played through the beta of this game as one of the kickstarters. It was an interesting game, and kinda fun. But in the full game, I started playing through it and the font in the dialogue boxes was literally giving me a headache. It's so hard to read. I really hope the dev adds an option of some sort to change the font to something else. The battle font isn't…

EDIT 2: 4 days after the games release, the developer has issued a patch to fix several crashed and some of the issues raised in feedback, which excites me as a player. I really want this game to succeed, it just needs some more work on it. EDIT: The review below was written on the day of release. While I have played a bit more since then, the same issues seem to persist. My best advice to everyone is to simply stay in the main area for longer to figure out the game and farm I guess... I…

One of the few times I wish my addiction to monster catching games didn't exist. This game feels like a prototype and given the last update was in May and there is still a game breaking bug where you literally can not quit and save, I don't want to scream abandonware but, the dev is currently working on at least one other game and the discord is very inactive. Monster Tribe is at its core what the dev says it is. An open world monster catching RPG. That said the game feels like its having an…

It's bad...just...very very bad... Controls are clunky, you cannot skip the long Intro, you cannot create your character, you cannot choose a starter monster. It's more a game of dig for 100 hours to get materials to make a new monster than a true Creature Collector game. You have few freedom, everything is on rail. I cannot refund because I backed this abomination and so didn't buy it on Steam. I love game with a lot of monsters...this game is not one of them...

I really don't know how the reviews are mostly positive. This game is extreme jank; I was having a mediocre time giving it a shot and then the game abruptly crashed and wiped the little progress I had made. The initial encounters were extremely dull one-shots. No monster battlers start out very difficult or engaging, but combat is generally more visually interesting and not over in a single attack until you've accrued a few levels. The opening story seems like a formality, something the dev…

Sadly can't recommend the game. In no particular order: 1. The map doesn't make sense. Hope you're good at remembering your path. 2. The combat is easy because my monster 1 shots all the enemies. Hopefully it gets harder later. 3. Resource collection is busywork and feels unrewarding. You're forced to do it to upgrade your 3 tools to gather higher tier resources. These resources are needed for your monsters and other things. But it feels like a waste of time. Improving your tools doesn't seem…

I watch Reece Geofroy on Youtube and was excited for this game. When I started playing I was disappointed. The game is unfinished. This is an early prototype. The balancing is out rages. You can go from winning battles in one move to loosing in one move in a single tower. The effects are the worst part of the game. Sometimes in battle random things happen, like you hitting your team or you missing, but I don't know if there bugs or not because there is no animation. When ever I try to save and…

Unfortunately, the game is currently in a state (Version 1.10) that I wouldn't consider fun, yet. The game has some technical issues, with crashes happening in menus every so often (which almost always results in lost progress due to the way saving works), and it seems like any time you swap your current squad enough that it shifts the enemy levels, the entire game starts lagging massively (guessing ~15fps or so) until you relocate to another screen. I'm sure those issues will get worked…

The text at best is annoying, and at worst it's illegible. I'd recommend the devs look into changing their font, because the spacing is absolutely abysmal. Secondly, the on-screen indicators for what buttons to use are jumbled. "Press X to use your tool" when after pecking around the keyboard, I found out it was actually F. "Press ✓ to interact" is the letter E on the keyboard... there's some inconsistencies in presentation here. Got to the combat and saw that it was grid-based, and I'm just…

I hate leaving negative reviews, but please don't waste your money. The developer appears to have abandoned this game shortly after release to work on other projects, and I've given it time. I bought it shortly after it's release date and have waited for update news that just hasn't come. The difficulty spike is abysmal and has never been addressed, with a pointless level cap that just breeds frustration - and I like difficult, grindy games. The world feels very empty, especially in the…

I realy want to love it, combat is somewhat fun, monster design is okish but... this feels more like an alpha. it needs so much more polish. Controlls are not intuitive and cant be remapped, even tho it is a pixel art game it runs badly and i just cant get over this font... maybe it feels this way because Cassette Beasts just released an i played the ♥♥♥♥ out of it. if so, monster tribes release was just not well timed. i wont refund it - im hoping it gets some qol and polish pateches

Monster Tribe is like if Pokemon and Stardew Valley had a quirky crossover love child with more than enough unique charm to stand on its own. You're able to explore a lot of the world, with one of the most enjoyable parts being waiting to see which creatures wait around each corner. I find the art style really cute and I like how smooth and responsive the gameplay feels, it was surprising to me to find out how few people worked on it. I'd recommend this to anyone seeking a new adventure in an…

10 tons of loredump at the start, the font is horrific to read (on 1440p), painted 6 rocks, got high on a cliff and then played an arcade machine against some red thing. No idea what on earth I just tried to play. I think whatever was in my "ceremonial pipe" has affected me through the screen and I do not feel well.

Monster Tribe is trying to be an open world creature collector game, instead you spend a good chunk of time collecting resources. You even get scared of making any monsters, in fear of need some resource for a quest or open a path. And the tools are annoying. There's 3 (fishing rod, axe, and pickaxe) with 4 different upgrades, so you juggle around 12 tools trying to find the right one for the resource you're currently griding/farming. If you like RPGs and Monster Catchers like Pokemon, then this game is right up your alley! It's a love letter to these types of games, but also provides plenty enough to offer its own fun and unique experience. Not very good. Maps are way too big even the towns have massive amounts of blank space between them so going to the houses you need to go is difficult especially since there are barely any landmarks other than some random statues. Combat feel braindead. I'm sure there's more to the combat than what I got but considering one of the first things I did was waltz over to the fire area and proceeded to dominate with zero strategy to speak of I think that some revamping of the combat system is…

I have really enjoyed what I've played so far of this game. The monsters are unique and the battle system is fun. It has lovely art and decent music. However, the harvesting is extremely tedious and for such a large area to explore I wish the character could move a little faster or run. There is a "dash" but it is more like a dodge or jump. If those were my only issues I would still give the game a positive review but it crashed within an hour of playing it, luckily it saves every 15 minutes…

Overall premise is good, art style is ok, creature design is pretty good; *conceptually* this *could* be a good game. Everything else, tho? Kind of a mess. Even ignoring glaring performance issues like the frequent crashes and random drops in frames which, on their own, make the game a pain to play, at times; a lot of the in-game systems would benefit from more detail, both in how they're implemented and in how they're explained to the player. This game is very buggy for some reason. 1, The game keeps crashing when I attempt to save. It forces me to start all the way from the beginning. 2. When the game launches it is in a beta version even though the game shouldn't be in beta. 3. This game may look like a pokemon clone but it really isn't. It plays like an adventure game that has evolution components, puzzles, and some grinding that adds the RPG element. The story isn't linear and allows you to explore a lot. The music is good and the battle system feels a bit like a tactical RPG. The game in it's current state does have bugs and I've had 3 crashes in 10 hours. It's cheap and has a ton of content though so it's a definite recommend for me.
