Monster Train 2 is potentially the greatest deck builder of all time. The pure amount of content, builds, and challenges is ABSOLUTELY ASTOUNDING. The rooms and equipment have added to the game's complexity and satisfaction immensely. Originally when the game came out, the old clans offered little to nothing, but they have been painstakingly rebuilt, and new cards added to make them better fit. 10 clans. You pick a main, and ally each run. That's 90 combinations IF you DON'T…

Monster Train 2 is an example of a perfect “safe” sequel. Shiny Shoe took all of the rough edges of the first game and sanded them off, then added just enough new mechanics to be interesting without overwhelming. Not every sequel has to reinvent the wheel. Sometimes we just want more and Monster Train 2 absolutely delivered that for me.

Instant buy if you like deckbuilders. This is a straight upgrade to Monster Train 1 (which you should play beforehand!) The story is laughably bad, but gameplay is king and MT2 is unmatched in this genre.

+ Didn't change the art style for the sake of it, + Didn't randomly shift UI for absolutely no reason, + Didn't add mechanics no one asked for, + Didn't remove mechanics that made the game fun, + Didn't add first game content and then lock it behind DLC, +++ Secret unlocks from first game with NO ADDED COST! They've simply built off the first and made monster train 2.

Amazing Sequel That Invalidates The First Game. This is not a joke. Monster Train 2 completely overshadows its predecessor. The game is still the same fast-paced, snowballing, deck-building roguelike, except it has tons of new content. It receives vast improvements and many quality-of-life features. Even the original six clans are available to you should you meet the requirements. Suffice to say, if you want to experience the unique fanatic scaling combat that is Monster Train, just get the…

Enjoying it very much. For a game that isn't even complete it is so solid on the gameplay. Feels different enough from the first game, but also the same. Not sure if it will become my favourite deck builder over Monster Train 2, but it's still a fantastic early access game.

MT1 was one of the few deckbuilders that really gave STS a run for its money, and MT2 feels like it literally perfects and replaces the original. Also the soundtrack gets me more fired up than almost any other game recently. They also made the cats not ugly anymore if that matters to you. Must play.

Genuinely think what @shinyshoegames.bsky.social achieved with Monster Train 2 is nothing short of phenomenal. To create five whole new factions that not only have their own unique synergies with each other, but with all the factions from the first game? A masterclass in deckbuilder balancing.

If Slay the Spire is the best and pioneer of a now bloated genre of games, this easily takes the cake as the second best in the genre. Will say the story is fairly weak, but its skippable, and the gameplay is the meat anyway.

This actually might be a better game than slay the spire... I think if I had played this first, it would be a no brainer. In a world of slay the spire clones, this feels super creative and fresh. So much fun to create combos, and I actually lost my first several games at the easiest difficulty, which I think is a green flag. Would HIGHLY recommend. Only weak spot is the art direction and the story, which IMO is pretty ugly.

I have never played a deck builder with any real dedication before and for whatever reason this one has kept my attention. First. The mushrooms are the best, a machine that springs to life with enough ease that even a consummate 'can't see the forest for the trees person' (me) is able to yield positive results. Second. Gilda is the worst. Third, the writing in this game, the little scenes where we get asides with the characters are charmingly bad but they're so sincere that I'm…

Comparing this to Monster Train 1 >Game is lacking most of the challenge/difficulty options, so it's much easier >Base system changes make the gameplay much less interesting mechanically >Enemy abilities prevent all but the most braindead strategy from working and you can't see which enemies you will get, so you always have to play exactly the same way. Easy to learn, hard to master, doesn’t need a whole evening to play a good session of. Monster Train 1 was a very good game - but one that never reached close to Slay the Spire in regards to roguelike deckbuilders. Monster Train 2 however is improved in every conceivable way - and whilst Slay the Spire 2 may still take the biscuit for GOAT franchise in this genre, I have nothing but praise for the developers, this is a genuinely fantastic game chocked full of replicability.
