It's not a space movie, but stay with me, because it's a promising time travel project.

neutral · AI labelView post →Who remembers when Minari won the Golden Globe award for "Best Foreign Film" because it wasn't allowed to b nominated for a "Best Motion Picture" award? Yeah, more of the same. It's close to the 100 year anniversary of "Race records" as a marketing category for the early 20th c recording industry.

positive · AI labelView post →Still haven't forgiven the oscars for putting Minari, a film set in america, filmed in america, starring american actors, with deeply american themes in the "international feature film" category because the characters speak a language widely spoken across america
neutral · AI labelView post →There's not a definitive movie, because there's exponential visions of America, but what comes to mind: Minari The Florida Project Miss Juneteenth The Only Lovers Left Alive First Cow (any Kelly Reinhardt) and of course The Wizard of Oz

neutral · AI labelView post →For some reason, I actually questioned why the dude who made Minari made a sequel to Twister. Turns out, if you actually want to give a shit about the humans in a big ass tornado movie, that's who you want making it. Whoda thunk.
positive · AI labelView post →Minari definitely has some of this but so much more. It's a very empathetic film.

neutral · AI labelView post →Just watched Minari (2020) 📽️ This movie really takes you on a ride. It is really stressful but in a bittersweet way. I felt sad one moment and hopeful the next. Really grounded while also being subtle and strange. It strikes a good balance and looks pretty doing it! 7/10 #filmsky #Korean #drama
positive · AI labelView post →convinced myself that there was a recent film called “Menorah” and got mad that more people weren’t talking about it even though: I haven’t seen it, it doesn’t exist, and it’s just a confluence of two other recent films (Minari and Anora) that I also haven’t seen
unlabelledView post →Just saw Twisters. I loved Lee Isaac Chung’s Minari and as much as I love 1996’s Twister, I was shocked to hear this would be his follow-up. I get it now: this movie is a big, fun popcorn flick but it’s also nuanced, beautifully shot, and full of heart. See it on the biggest screen.

unlabelledView post →Speaking of the human scale films, I’m embarrassed I only recently saw Minari on a plane. I cried a ton. What a beautiful film. I’m mixed race Asian and my Chinese family first settled in Arkansas in the 70s so there was a lot that hit on a personal level despite it not being my family’s story.

unlabelledView post →We’re still waiting on the Great Evangelical Film, though. It’s still never been done (unless you count Minari which is more of a family drama?)
unlabelledView post →I think so much of it was the “like it don’t love it” nature of Mank. All those nods showed more respect than ardor to me. I think that trickled into the acting races too. Minari was ultimately a more beloved film (was my fave of that year too), and Youn had the more fulfilling narrative.
unlabelledView post →💯💯💯 I’m pretty much the internet’s number one Minari stan, but Amanda not winning here still stings so much - just a *revelatory* performance, and that movie only really feels alive when she’s in it. Never understood how she didn’t run away with the season tbh.
unlabelledView post →I’m a little late but Minari was such a beautiful film. I noticed the same struggle I saw in my parents leaving their entire lives behind to come to America. Definitely had me getting super emotional.
unlabelledView post →I remember liking Better Luck Tomorrow in high school, and two days ago I enjoyed Presence. but I don't know if BLT counts as "non-Asian", since it's definitely an Asian-American movie, like Minari and Dìdi

unlabelledView post →"Minari" is a movie about what's best in us. Populated, almost entirely, by imperfect but kind people. It represents what's best about America. We need to fight to keep what's decent.

unlabelledView post →2020: Winner, Nomadland, OOF, this was a year of small quiet movies but I fucking hated this My pick: Minari, underrated, honestly think it didn't get more attention just by the bad luck of coming out the year after Parasite and people having a weird perception of it being "another Korean movie"
unlabelledView post →@alissawilkinson.bsky.social excited to see you and Mark Bittman later this month! MINARI is such a special movie.
unlabelledView post →Today's recommended film streaming for free in the UK is Minari on Channel 4. A beautiful film about a Korean family trying to start a farm against the odds in 80s Arkansas. Let me know what you think of this one in the comments.
unlabelledView post →FWIW (and I know I'm a ways afield of your point here) but I do remember Minari as a really sweet coming-of-age movie where the child lead was reasonably good and had that movie come out a year earlier or later it probably has more footprint than it currently does. But also yeah, curious casting...
