Megabyte Punch
Developer Team Reptile
Megabyte Punch is a fighting/beat ‘em up game in which you build your own fighter! As you travel through different environments, you battle other creatures to get their parts. Parts have their own powers and bonuses, like gun arms for a shoot ability or powerful hips for a devastating pelvic thrust attack. From the Steam store page

The art style is neat and reminds me of old Mega Man games. There's a ton of ways to customize your robot and you can unleash some pretty wicked attacks. Tons of fun and fairly cheap, no reason not to try this game!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Mega Man like experience but instead shooting you drill! Levels are fun to play and combos can be performed. Boss fights and varied enemies. Can be played for coop.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →this game is childhood relived i remember spending hours playing this as a browser game with my brother for hours replaying the first level a million times now it was totally worth it to buy this game and the developers completely deserve that people buy this
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Controls are quite confusing sometimes. For example if a special ability is bound to x+down but i want to direct it upwards, I need to press x+down then immediately up, and the timing is quite hard to nail down. And it doesn't feel so much like skill, more like compensating for clunky controls. Maybe WASD instead of x+direction would be easier to use. Also the Enter menu is weirdly structured. The "Attach parts" menu shows the wheel with the items when selected, but for the "Break into bits"…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →6/10 fun but kinda repetitive i have yet to try local co-op
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →god I wanted to like this game but it's just so boring it's like playing Subspace Emissary in Brawl and that wasn't good either it has a little bit of customization and some jenky stuff but the stages are forgettable, combat is slow and clunky, it's just plain dull
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Megabyte Punch is an awesome platformer with 4 player versus and coop, highly customizable characters, tons of secrets in maze like levels with tough bosses all in a Super Smash Bros style Brawler. The main game is fairly short, There are only 6 levels, But each level has 3 parts and each level has a boss and there is a final boss, So this amounts to 18 levels, 7 bosses and a whole lot of unlockables to find. All levels are full with secrets and getting certain parts helps you get to…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I played it forever ago but it was fun. I would recommend it.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I have only one complaint: It needs a sequel.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →My first Steam Purchase. EASILY worth it. Fun platforming customizable smash bros
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Gameplay - It's as if Cave Story had a baby with Super Smash Bros. Like Subspace Emissary but with up to 4 people. (offline only sadly) Visuals - I get a massive BIT.TRIP RUNNER 1 vibe. Soundtrack - It's "okay" but some tracks are pretty freaking awesome. Replayability - Fun things to collect and stuff. Few extra challenges. Not much to do after collecting everything. Performance - Runs quite well on my crap of a laptop. (Uses the Unity engine) Verdict - Overall, I love this game. It can…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's a really good game i don't see anything wrong with it. it's like Mega Man mixed with Smash Bros and i LOVE IT! only one thing they should add, online game modes but other than that, amazing game
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →TL;DR: Short but really fun game, has lots of secrets to discover, fun with friends (but no online multiplayer unless you use Remote Play), tournament has decent replay value. Update wishlist at the bottom. After playing this game for 77.8 hours (and counting, as of this review!), it's a short adventure with a lot of things to discover. Build your robot how you see fit and conquer six different worlds with three levels each with a final boss waiting for you. After finishing the game, you'll…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Good game. Awesome graphic. Good fights. You can earn achievements.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Absolutely love this game, but it does have some things that bother me. Pros: Mind-bending music, good gameplay, a large variety of parts, bosses, dialogue for NPCs. Cons: Start from lvl 1 after losing boss battle, the increasing difficulty of bosses. Conclusion: This game has more Pros than its Cons, but the cons however should be resolved.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →We want Megabyte Punch 2 (Or online)
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →At it's core Megabyte Punch has taken a lot of fun ideas from better games and somehow made them worse. Do you like Super Smash Bros? Mega Man? Medabots? Or Cave Story? Well you're better off playing any of those games instead. The controls are somehow too clunky in combat and also floaty when jumping+moving. The menu is a pain to use and not streamlined at all. The music is just generic techno noise and the story seems nonexistent. This game looked promising but is ultimately an easy pass.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Like a Smash Bros with customisable movesets and just a slight hint of Lethal League.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →an AWESOME UNDERRATED ADVENTURE it's easy to pick up but Challenging to Master the Multi player is fine but with No Online Play, the Post Game is like an AFTER THOUGH. still try it Out if you want (but id like to see someone mod this game for online play)
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Something is very off with this game, despite it being marked as Steam Deck verified, it didn't track any of the changes made through 4 hours of gameplay on Deck. As my screenshots show, I got to world 3, yet my stats are stuck at ~100 bytes collected, and only 19 enemies defeated. Now I logged in on desktop, and despite having cloud saves, it refuses to access the saves made on the deck, instead uses multiple years old save files, with not even a mention of my gameplay from a few hours ago.…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The customization of Custom Robo but with the gameplay of Super Smash Bros is a mixture I didn't know I wanted until I had it. If you want a brawler with some chunky hits and a pleasing cel-shaded art style, keep an eye on this one.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →this game is my childhood
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Fantastic and fun game, I only wish it were longer (and that the AI was a little less easy to exploit) If you like the idea of a beat'em-up platformer with smash-bros like inputs and tons of player customizing/collecting, this is a nice game to own.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →cool fighting gameplay, cool character appearances and i like the playstyle customization possibilities but the story is too short and online coop or even pvp could be cool
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A bit like the story mode of Super Smash Bros: Brawl, but with more customisation and exploration to do. Plus, it's all multiplayer for up to 4 people, and works with Steam Remote Play. I'm not a huge fan of fighting games normally, but this game has been tons of fun so far
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Game is fun and addictive! Has a local co-op feature that allows up to 4 players! To sum the game up... MegaMan meets Metabots meets Super Smash Bros.! Again... VERY fun game! Worth every penny;
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →good game, I still manage to find new things to experiment with
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Here's what you do: This plays similar to a Smash (platform fighter) game. You have a normal attack and a special attack button combined with directional inputs (up, down, side, neutral) for different types of attacks. You play as a robot which you can customize the parts of, which also allows you to pick what special moves you have and alter your strength, defense, speed, or add additional jumps to your character. There are no grabs (and no ledge grabs), but you do have a shield and shield…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Megabyte Punch is a low poly 3D rendered 2D retro platformer/brawler that uses colourful untextured polygons instead of retro pixels. You can do various upgrades as you progress to help fight bosses and enemies and help you move around. The gameplay isn't very different from most platformers, but I found the controls really clunky and the default mappings awful. At least it didn't assume my HOTAS is a gamepad so I could actually play the game. Regardless the clunky controls and primitive…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Terrible platforming and fighting controls, can only use a few abilities. Also has the worst restart system. You only get a life after collecting 65 coins. But if you lose all lives you havce to restart the entire group of stages again. I spent 2 hours retrying level 6 with 2 mini bosses and tons of instant die platforming areas before i decided life is too short. Just terrible design decision. 5/10
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A beautiful mix of Megaman and upgrading that's a colorful and cubic wonderland. Absolute fun and looks awesome
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Megabyte Punch is a refreshing indie action-platformer that combines fast-paced combat, exploration, and character customization into a uniquely satisfying experience. Instead of relying on conventional leveling systems or fixed equipment, the game revolves around collecting and swapping robotic body parts taken from defeated enemies. This central mechanic transforms every battle into an opportunity to improve or completely reinvent your character, encouraging experimentation from beginning to…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →played it with a friend about 8 years ago or so. today I bought the game. we beat it again. it's an amazing game, nothing more to say.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Anyways, if you watched this far, thanks for doing so. Megabyte Punch is one of my favorite games, and one of the reasons why I choose to become a video game developer (at least for an hobby for now). Cheers to a hopefully better year.
unlabelledView post →Incredibly good game. Kind of like smash bros with robots and customizable parts. I'm suprised that this isn't much more popular. 8/10
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →one of the best indie game I've ever played
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I played mostly is offline mode, so don't mind the seemingly low playtime. Megabyte punch doesn't do anything egregiously bad, but nothing really shines either. It's a beat em up with a slightly fun gimmick. - changing parts to modify your characters and their attacks. I love Team Reptile's other titles and wanted to love this one too. Maybe I went in with too high of expectations, but I cannot shake the feeling that this game is just middle of the road.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →6/10 Fun game, unique 2d action platformer where you can take the parts of your enemies and graft them to yourself. Worth a play.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Still an underrated lil' gem. Building tiny robot fighters is very fun.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Super fun little platformer! Reminds me of Metabots from my childhood ironically hahah Good time!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Very stiff feeling and clumy]sy, chunky feeling smash clone that kinda reminds me of an oversimplified but greatly extended subspace emmisary (With procedural generation....?) too simple and yet such a long game. Just buy lethal league blaze or BRC and be done with it :P
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Very fun hidden gem of a game. Nice combat, enjoyable exploration that is always rewarded, and good challenges in the achievements. I got it in a bundle many years ago, and I keep coming back to it from time to time.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Poor Mans Mega-Man X SmashBros
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I got this in a key trade with no expectations other than that the graphics looked cool and it had robots. I've never played Smash Brothers but I wasted a couple of hours on Multiverses... so when I got to the first boss it all clicked into place. I end up giving up on most action platformers somewhere around the second or third boss, so we'll see how this one goes. I usually find the difficulty scales way beyond what I'll ever be capable and I give up. So here's hoping this is different. I…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Funny little smash bros robot go beep boo- oh wow this studio made lethal league years later huh.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →you have a problem in yum brain becauz in your country arall gays
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is like Super Smash Bros. but with the ability to mix and match any set of abilities. I am a huge fan of the mechanics. I especially like the speed of character movement, and the mechanic of being able to jump multiple times off of thin air. It make for extremely fast-paced fun, especially in a co-op type setting. The adventure mode is also fun, although the levels are rather long with no way to pause and save progress. The adventure mode is where you acquire abilities (parts). All…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →If you like NES games you will love this one!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A couple small decisions really hold this game back from being better. There is low-poly, and then there is such low poly that you can't tell a blade of grass from a head of a monster. The lack of detail makes everything look like shapes with no resemblance of what they are supposed to be. Also, in similar games (Mega-Man, 20XX) they have really amazing memorable levels that end in a boss. This is really fun. Unfortunately in Megabyte Punch they have several lackluster and forgettable…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Keeps crashing. Either way... a smash "target practice" game, with a world designed around it. Pretty boring and difficult to figure out where you are supposed to go from time to time. I've gone by just fine with mashing "X". PS: I said that it was a smash copy.... It is not THAT good. AI sucks... relax.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is amazing. The soundtrack, the concept, all great. However there are 2 things I don't like: 1) the golden blocks that hold special parts rarely mix up and have something new. 2) you have to always stick with parts that are a needed in a certain level even if you don't like the part.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →wew lad fun as hell, especially with friends.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I love this game, and was pretty fun for a game I received for free. The local co-op is very fun, and I enjoy duking it out with my brother from time to time. It's low key like super smash bros with the damage limit and hitting them so hard they bounce off the arena. But playing the story was also pretty fun. If you enjoy local co-op games I do believe that this game is worth looking at.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Neat game, but I'm glad it's usually cheap. I like that they heavy-handedly nabbed Smash combat and put it into a platformer. If I had to pick a complaint, I'd say that it could use a little more variety in the effects of the parts, like, it doesn't take too long before you start finding different parts with the same stats and you're struggling to find more moves you like instead of mashing the same two over and over.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I've had so much fun with this game. Ever since I saw the demo on Kongregate, I've pretty much played it since the release - but I only beat the final boss 10 years later. Something about it reeks of childhood, the characters are archetypal, every "megac" resembles an action figure, the combat can be hectic with a "rule of cool" sort of violence - punching a crab so hard it carves a tunnel through the 1st level is a good example. Even the character customisation, slotting limbs together…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Tags: Platformer Additional Tags: Delete Local Content & Remove from Library TLDR: Unity Engine brawling platformer. Walljumping felt clumsy. Environments are minimalistic and the art is lacking. Lacks flavor and a soul.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It feels OK through the first 30 minutes, after that gets really repetitive and boring. The artstyle is kinda cool, the controls are responsive, the difficult level is fine, the game brings a good challenge although you gotta fight the same enemies, bypass the same traps and navigate through the same environment over and over. The boss fights are cool but after a while, the game didn't appeal to me anymore. It's a so-so game, I wouldn't recommend it considering that time is a scarce asset and…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I love this game back at the high school times. It would be a game changer if the game have multiplayer feature
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I can say with 95% certainty, that if you enjoyed the Subspace Emissary in Super Smash Bros. Brawl, this game will more than likely appeal to you. It's a pleasantly smashing platformer experience, with a nice blend of fighting and exploration, as well as customization.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is great, nice customization and EXCELLENT gameplay. Being able to change your controls, attacks, how to do your attacks, your damage, your defence, how fast you move or attack, your color, etc. The levels and bosses are different and fun the entire way through, nice secrets and great to play with multiple people. Gameplay: 9/10 Graphics: 8/10 Story: 7/10 Customization: 10/10 Level/Boss design: 9/10 Very skill based and quite challenging. All in all a solid 9/10
