Memorable film roles include Mean Streets (1973), Taxi Driver (1976), Reservoir Dogs (1992), Pulp Fiction (1994), The Piano (1993), Cop Land (1997), and a personal fave: Bertrand Tavernier's Death Watch (1980).

unlabelledView post →Watched MEAN STREETS (1973) for the umpteenth time and couldn’t help marvelling at how much it stylistically shaped the next few decades of film and TV, acknowledged or not. And it’s a reminder of just how central Scorsese should be in any modern history of the medium 🤷♂️… #filmsky
unlabelledView post →watched Saturday Night Fever for the first time last night. Wasn't expecting it to be a nice companion film to Mean Streets and actually wasn't expecting the tone to be so bleak. But I think that's what makes the dancing work so well. Like John (Tony) Travolta really isn't a great guy

Scorsese having a continuing cultural legacy after he's gone feels like a moderately safe bet by now.

That's why I like Mr Robot so much because it was actually filmed all over New York so in 20 years time it's going to also work on the level of showing history
unlabelledView post →Rewatched Alice Doesn't Live Here Anymore (1974) & still dig it. Hits different when yer older. Still shocking the violence that the women face. Kinda wild this was Scorsese's movie between Mean Streets & Taxi Driver. Wonder if the 3hr cut had more Burstyn in that piano bar, really loved that part.

'Mean Streets'. 1973 (Scorsese) #4K It was Cassavetes who gave Scorsese a creative kick up the ass to make a worthy film ("Marty, you just spent an entire year making a piece of shit." *in reference to 'Boxcar Bertha' "Make something you're passionate about.")
unlabelledView post →And if you've never seen the film, I'm being deadly serious when I say that it's exactly what you would get if you spliced Mean Streets into Rodan. There's a Scream Factory Blu-ray. Find it. Watch it. It's wonderful.
unlabelledView post →Check out this film on MUBI: Mean Streets. The first of the Scorsese/De Niro collaborations. Powerful & gritty. De Niro’s manic Johnny Boy is in stark contrast to Keitel’s much more considered Charlie, whose loyalty to his friend threatens his relationships with everyone else #FilmSky

Robert De Niro *is* Johnny Boy, a gambling, flirtatious, unstable danger to himself as he ignores debts he owes to local Mafia. #FilmSky #MovieSky 1/3

Down These Mean Streets (1966) creaks loudly and is sometimes unintentionally funny. It's very much put together with spit and sellotape but has flashes of visual flare and a strong atmosphere.
